Had this as a rental (but with the 6spd powershift DCT) in San Francisco for about a week. It was actually pretty damn good; it swallowed up luggage & 4 adults comfortably; power was ample in the steep grades of SF (also the hill hold feature really works wonders here). The steering was tight and the 2.0 was economical and powerful to keep up at interstate speeds. A car I can seriously consider taking a closer look at, especially the ST and the upcoming RS model. Ford has made a very nice little car here.

+fundirector_ Since 1989 I've owned two cars from new, different brands though, small Japanese 4-cyl sedans w/ 5 speeds. Both revved about 3000 when going 65. The 1989 car was passed on to a friend & then another, went over 300,000 miles w/o a rebuild last I heard. The one I'm driving now, 170,000 miles and still runs like new. Might get a few more MPGs with a taller gear, but drivetrain service life wasn't an issue, outlasting the bodies in both cases.

Winding Road Magazine What was the cars mpg? Contrary to a lot of American fools who told me take Corolla,Civic,Sentra, I drove a Ford Focus 2014 5 speed manual and my verdict is, not just good, its brilliant, unbelievably good, I bet as good as new Mazda 3, I got an average of 34 mpg combined and on highway cruise at 55-60 mph I got like 42-44 mpgs at times, Also the car rides handles light years better than shitty Toyotas,Hondas,Nissans and seemed the quietest of the lot in terms of wind,road,tire noise insulation as well It had awesome sounding music system, best AC,pin sharp handling as well I found just 1 con to the Focus, thats back seat legroom is too low , even still its got enough to pack 4 of 5.5-5.6 feet tall people, I dont understand why a lot of people detest Focus, sure the DCT had some issues but even still the car is a gem, pity on Americans detesting such awesome domestics,
@sic22l9 жыл бұрын
+Ponygt 662 It's not exactly domestic... Current Focus was designed in Europe, by Europeans and for Europeans. Ford did some adjustments o fit more tastes around the world so it's not as good as the Mk2 EU Focus but it's still nice.

Ponygt 662 Powershift dual cltch gearbox was designed in Europe, in a joint-venture with Getrag in order to compete with VW's DSG. The engine was designed by Mazda. Current focus is domestic because it's assembled in the US. It's as american as VW Passat.
@ponygt66299 жыл бұрын
sic22l No way, The Powershift tech had 2 unites the wet clutch unit and dry clutch unit, the wet clutch unites are designed and tested in Europe, all dry clutch units are done by Getrag USA, Getrag is a big company, true its stationed at Europe but its US division is responsible for the DCT on Focus of USA The DCT on TDCi are wet clutch units they were R&D and tuned in Europe About Duratec, the long gone series of Mazda L series engines, how pathetic man, Mazdas old block was adopted by Ford, but the new TiVCT Duratec for Focus is developed by Ford, USA, dont think Americans are dump like they used to be, they are sleeping giants, poke them they bite hard The 2.0 Duratec is also used in Ginetta cars, but thats in the 200 HP tune, thats completely developed by Ford Europe-Ginetta partnership, the 160/170 HP Focus tune is an American made tune

+Gregory Kanniard i actually wish they had put in a six speed, or at least an option for the mk3 model i.e. 2013 focus se, reason being, if you modify it like i have, your rpms will be over 3 grand while doing 75 on the highway, i still make 30mpg combined, but if i had a 6 speed i should in theory make 36+ mpg. if you are wondering what modifications i have done to my car for the rpms to be so high at that speed while in the tallest gear, they are as follows; roush cat-back exhaust system paired with a roush CAI, a rebel devil 91 octane tune, throttle body and manifold spacer, and a new intake inlet tube (took out the factory and put in an aftermarket polyurethane one because it was less restrictive on airflow). i plan on putting in either a custom header with high flow cats, buying a larger diameter header from rebel devil customs, and or just buying a catless header from obx.

***** I daily drive a facelift MK1 Focus. 5MT too. In my country you can do 130 km/h (82 mp/h) on the highway, but people usually do 140, because the cops only stop you at 110% of the allowed speed, 143 in this case. It does 3500 RPM. And it's loud. But at least it pulls nicely without dropping a gear.
@ast55159 жыл бұрын
***** No. But I admit it's not the best maintained car ever. The IAC valve is all clogged up (will clean it, because the car stalls if I hit the clutch and let it drop to idle), something in the rear right suspension is worn out and causes a weird noise, ignition below 2000 RPM is spotty at best. By that I mean you want to do a hill start and you hit the throttle hard, it sounds like it's gonna stall and then when it finally gets the ignition right, the wheels spin. So yeah. Maybe it could be quieter, I don't know.

@@alextriotton first off, this car isn't meant to be a performer anyway and under normal driving speeds, particularly around town, you never need low-end for these. If you need to do any highway speed, like you said, knowing how to shift properly can make its lacking low end grunt pretty inconsequential. I got a 14 in 2014 and just traded it for a wrx, and it had 222000 miles on it, did replace transmission at i think 218000, but because I'm pretty sure when the car was serviced, they overlooked a leaking half shaft and I drove a long while without transmission fluid. Engine ran fine, went through maybe 1/3 a quart of oil every 3500 miles, cooling system was fine, and hit two deers, beat the snot out of the car for much of its mileage, and besides the power steering which waa about 1100 for full replacement, only thing that really gave me trouble, besides general wear and tear from our evidential extorted money quality road maintence.

revoluciona mucho antes de los cambios mal manejo y contamina

Asi es. Puede dañar el embrague antes de lo esperado, ademas, sube muchas marchas antes de que el auto tenga una velocidad que lo necesite. Ejemplo; Pone 5ta a unos 60mph.

Your hands are too low on the steering wheel. They need to be higher up.

+SrtMrt29 Hahah good point. And I have to agree. These come in all the time with transmissions that are junk and major BCM problems.

+Garrett McKie I own a ' 15 Mazda 3. Has a lot nicer interior.

+wonderwall135 I liked the Mazda 3 but the navigation system isn't fully built in, it looks like Mazda just slapped it in there. But the engine is really peppy just a like the focus. I test drove every compact and mid size sedan on the market, and the focus was the best compact from driving experience and quality.

Well then we disagree. I feel the Mazda has way better quality and much nicer handling. I don't mind the on top infotainment. BMW and Mercedes have that too so hey it's not in bad company.
@garrettm79939 жыл бұрын
+wonderwall135 true, but with BMW and Mercedes only the low end models have the flimsy screen not built in. With BMW it's the 3 series and the 5, 6, and 7 series are all in dash systems. Likewise with Mercedes. The Mazda 3 is a great car, but uses more plastics then the Focus Titanium. The Mazda and the Focus are the best compacts I've ever driven. I would buy a Mazda, but for me the Focus felt right at home. Plus, once my car is paid off I could trade in for a Mazda and try owning one myself.
