I've had my Wildtrak for 18 months now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Awesome vehicle! Bush, beach and around town all an absolute pleasure and the comfort, features and technology leaves the otbers wanting. The hilux brigade bag the manufacturing but they are all made in Thailand anyway. My next ute will be another Wildtrak.

Delta BoXeR I traded in my Holden v8 (had the v8 for 10 years) for this truck not much of a difference if you ask me for performance apart from take off speeds v8 obviously faster, this truck is powerful on road and off-road and very stable when travelling at high speeds and very stable off road as well. I Don’t Even miss my v8 at all.

Wish mine was as good as this one Ford gave you guys. Bought my PX2 Wildtrak last year and it was only good for around 400km. Since then it's been a nightmare. 22000km later all issues with driveline vibrations/shudder, transmission and sync 2 continue to be met with the delightful phrase "characteristic of the vehicle". I could write a book about the nightmare I've had dealing with Ford the last ten months but there's only so much you can type here. Don't make the same mistake I did. Avoid buying a Ranger. I'm sure they're great if you don't get a lemon. But if you do Ford will not help you. I am not the only Ranger owner with these issues not getting resolved. Don't risk it! Spend your hard earned elsewhere with a manufacturer that has a good customer service record. Great review by the way guys, as always, and sorry for the rant but Ford have helped me find my purpose in life...Dissuade as many people as possible from buying their cars!

Brilliant review, clean, to the point, and succinct. I don't know where they found him but this guy puts all the other current car testers to shame. I own a 2016 Wildtrack and he sums up all the pros and cons with spot on accuracy. Bloody good ute by the way, a bit thirsty and like all these types of vehicles, corners like a drunk camel on roller skates (but then damn it all, it's not an Aston) otherwise in a class of it's own. A head and shoulders above all the rice burners.

Ok so here is my 20 cents worth. After a long succession of Hilux SR5 utes, I have finally decided to go to the dark side and have ordered a new Wildtrack ute. Why, you may ask! Well my ute is used for work and play. It regularly tows a race car and often a caravan. I also go off road and use the ute around the farm. I want top of the range, as much for comfort as resale value. I have added $20k of ARB gear to ensure the ute fits my needs. I have spent the last 3 months test driving every ute on the market. I even had a couple for a weekend (don't ever part with your hard earned cash based on a 20 minute test drive). Most dealers will organise this for you if you ask - most people don't! I don't like this trend of smaller capacity diesels with ever increasing KW & NM output. This can only be achieved by higher boost pressure and compression ratios. I want a big capacity, low stress engine with the runs on the board. I want a second generation model with the major bugs ironed out - I don't want to be a guinea pig! I want a ute for which I can get service and repair parts when I am travelling the outback, so it needs to be what the mining and farming industry use. So......the only ute I could find that ticked nearly all the boxes was the Wildtrack. My only criticism is on a $60k vehicle I would expect driver's seat memory and definitely daytime running lights. With delivery later this month, only time will tell if I have made the right decision!

No the new ones will not. The modern diesel utes are not Isuzu trucks. The injectors fail, the shitty shit egr system and diesel particulate filter shits itself. It's a massive problem. Trying to make a diesel engine not give out soot and emissions. Thry are now trying to get 500 Newton meters out of a 2 litre engine. The compression is enough to make a diamond from coal. I really enjoyed the review, particularly the rear seat demo, not enough reviews do it. Fair Dinkum, in an Aussie Ute, you'd reckon there'd be rear aircon. Also reviewers don't seem to include in their reviews the manufactures attitude and Quality of After Sales Service when you have problems particularly with a new car. If they permanently fix it right the first time without excuses or argument its just annoying but you tell everyone at least they sorted it. But If they are difficult to deal with and not interested in assisting you after you spent big bucks like Volkswagen or Chrysler it wouldn't matter how good the review I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks for the review its really good. Coming from the Southern hemisphere we invariably drive pickups, to the extent that even company cars are either single cabs, double cabs and if you make it right to the top something like a Landcruiser, Patrol. So in the 80s, Toyota ruled the roost, 90s, same story, around the late 90s and part way 2000s - Isuzu and the various offerings from Nissan gave it a good go for its title and at times supplanted it. Come the teens and all of a sudden the Ford is a serious contender running Toyota close sometimes or outright beating it but overall the Toyota is still the king. l wonder if you could do a comprehensive comparison, say Ranger, Toyota , the Isuz KB, the Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda and maybe some of the Chinese pickups which one is beginning to see around. That could be very interesting.

+SirTurtle any technical explanations on why you don't approve of the Ranger? I'm quite sure they're robust considering it was engineered by the team who engineered the Falcon.
@kedrshr1mp68 жыл бұрын
Andrew Gallagher Well from my assumption they were built by the same people who made the falcon the shitty broken version of a commodore therefore I assume it would be another shitty ripoff of something good. My mate also had one of the new rangers it couldn't make it up any of the forbie trails our old landcruisers could make it up. Cars that were first designed in 1960, If you want a car for offroading and a real beast I would suggest the 40 series landcruisers up to 80 series. The 40 up to 70 are beasts but not quite capable of some trails, the 80 series though Is by far my choice for any trails because it comes stock with diff-lockers and pretty much nothing gets in its way and most older models of the 80 don't have any bullshit computers. Plus my final reason is it's a ford. Fords break.
@AndrewEG8 жыл бұрын
+SirTurtle Oh OK so I guess the Australian Engineers at Ford don't know how to design a car considering it's common to see falcon taxis with more than half a million kms on the ODO? Maybe your mate needs the correct tyres for offroading?

@Drivecomau8 жыл бұрын
+Reko Sri - it's about the same as Hilux but smaller than Amarok
@reko31038 жыл бұрын
If talking specifically about the engines, Ford elected to use an inline-5, which is different from the rest of the bunch. Did their choice pay off? Is the Ford smoother and more powerful than its' 4-Cylinder competition? Enough to balance out the penalty they took on fuel economy, and the actual front-end weight of the engine?
@doctorboy58924 жыл бұрын
I will answer your question. The Everest has seats where the Ranger has a tub. People who don't have more than 2 kids like to have the tub. We can go to Bunnings and load the tub full of overpriced shit. We then use our bullbar to drive home through traffic. The tub holds hardly anything but look at the paint job. This is not a work ute so it is not used for loading up scratchy shit like a Toyota Workmate is.

Well that's market specific. In my some markets the Wildtrack is essentially a just higher trim level over the XLT - same towing capacities etc, but the Wildtrack has more luxury features such adaptive cruise control over standard cruise control (XLT), climate control over manual AC (XLT) and more bling bling exterior parts over the XLT.

great review - very informative and even entertaining and I got a good laugh from some of his comments - the wildtrak "pugface" is very desirable but a bit too expensive brand new - I wonder if its price will devalue to 58% after 2 years? which would make it more affordable and better value since it should devalue much slower after that initial drop in value - it should also have 1 year warranty left but being a diesel which I have never owned before wonder how much more expensive to service - after 3 years I would be doing the services myself as I have done with all my cars - how much more work is it to service this diesel than a petrol engine eg 6 cyl ford falcon??

The Rangers are now listed in the Dog and lemon guide as Unreliable and get 2 out of 5 stars. They have major problems with all the sensors on the vehicle and when you do an oil change the oil pump empties and wont reprime when the new oil is added. This means the oil pump fails and the engine then fails. Ford are having to replace engines at an alarming rate. I know a guy who has had 3 engine replacements from Ford. They also have major issues with their four wheel drive systems and drive train. Terrible vehicles

You need to factor in local wages too though. For example the average annual wage in Australia in 2016 as per the bureau of statistics was just under $80K ($79721). In the US that is about the average wage for someone with a Doctorate, whereas the median annual wage for the entire population is around $41,520. Apples and Oranges Mate, hence why a $60K price tag isn't as much of a slap in the face down under.

So did you get either? How are they? I want an XLT but as usual, there's the stories of gearbox issues yet no one can tell me if its manuals or autos. And fire. But that's from parking a piping hot car in very tall dry grass. Someone did that once at a drag meet in a Cadillac and burnt over 80 cars to the ground. Back when we called him an idiot and not a victim by blaming car companies. The Hilux I like too but it's underpowered, doesn't come with standard tow pack, tray liner etc. I want an auto but they can't tow 3.5t. If I get a manual its detuned to make even less power! And of course Hilux is having DPF and injector issues.

You need to learn how to use the voice control before you slag it off ,1st try waiting until it says "say a comand" once you press the voice control button then speak
