I watched this video probably 20 times before I bought my 2017 softail slim S. Thank you for making it played a large part in helping me make my decision.

I test rode a Softail Slim S. I own a 2011 Road Glide which I believe is THE BEST bike HD builds. That being said ... I want a smaller bike for old age considerations. I don't ride far any more but I want a bike that's capable should I desire. The Softail Slim S was as described in the review. I would ride this bike and never complain. Now ... it isn't an HD tour bike as far as suspension goes, yet, it seemed smooth and acceptable for the powerhouse it is. I'd buy one in a second and never look back. Just my $.02 Jake

Bro. Thanks for the review. I have FLSTN Deluxe and I ran across your review few weeks back. Well all I can say is that I now own Vivid black Slim S!!! I too was torn apart between two colors but I thought I can put more personal touch on the black one. Yes, seat will be replaced when Progressive Motorcycle Show comes to town next month.

What up Surpluzz! First off - I love the vlogs. Nice, clean, and to the point! I'm a disabled vet. that has recently moved to Keene, TX (just off 35w south) from way of Alabama. I've been off the road for some time (@8yrs) and am looking forward to getting a new ride. I've had two in the past, a '97 Yamaha 750 & a '01 Honda Shadow 500. .....in short, I'm 6'1" and 250+ and I've been doing LOTS of research before I make a decision, because these new bikes are so much different. Any-who >> I've been eyeballing the Vulcan 900LT and possibly the Kawi C90T that's less than 10K....that is until I came across a local used H.D. dealership here in Arlington and also your vlogs! I know each bike has their own great qualities, but I fell in love the look and sound of those infamous Harley's! I'm curious if you could shine some insight on the background of the Breakout, Softtail S, or maybe some of the 883's? I'm looking for an everyday cruise but also--possibly a road trip with the wife to Alabama and back...what's your thoughts? Thanks, God bless & ride safe!

+Daniel Bailey Thanks Daniel Bailey, and thanks for the sub! Unfortunately the extent of my experience with these bikes pretty much ends with these videos, however, I do know riding. A daily cruiser could be a lot of things, I travel 35 miles one way to work lol! The Breakout rocks! Have you seen my vid? BTW so does the Street Bob ;) Long distance? Alabama? Wife?.....kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6qZenR5a7J-gpI

+Surpluzz Thanks for replying! Sorry guess I should have asked a question. (:p Have you or could you possibly do a review one on a Vulcan 900 or metrics vs Harley's 800+cc? The long distance was a thought...one only that might just happen once a year! Thanks again. God bless & ride safe!!

Dario C. Cruz - I kid you not, If they did that to the Street Bob..............oh my gosh. I cant tell you how fast I would be at the dealership! BTW I did notice a small amount of vibration increase compared to the D, but it wasn't much. Tolerable for sure. Thanks again man! I would love more enthusiastic subs like you.

Hi Surpluzz, just read that H-D is adding a Low Rider S to this year's lineup. It's slightly pricey at $16,700 but about the same price it'd cost to upgrade a Dyna with a Screamin' Eagle 110 kit. A Dyna with 110ci motor - hang on for your life, Charlie Brown ;-)
@krisgreen87958 жыл бұрын
Why not go all out with the street bob and get a SE120R swap?
@DarioCruz928 жыл бұрын
An interesting question. It would be pointless to just swap the engine without other modifications and a dyno. Here's a price list of what would be needed for optimum performance: $5495 = 120R Crate motor $400 = 58mm EFI throttle body $300 = Heavy breather $140 = 5.3 g/s injectors $400 = Racing clutch $400 = 5 hours labor (dealer quote motor swap + clutch remove/replace) $400 = 2 hours dyno time $7535 = Total And you would still need to upgrade the stock brakes (which is probably why they H-D went with the Low Rider for the S Model, since it has dual disc). That's another $1,000 for PM front and rear calipers for a Street Bob. And you need to upgrade the wheels if you have the stock HD laced ones, since they would flex too much with all that torque. A decent pair of wheels would cost over $2,200 Also, if you want a H-D warranty, you need them to do all the work. Nothing against H-D technicians but they generally repair bikes; not do custom work like what would be needed. So to answer your question: it's much cheaper and easier to buy a Low Rider S.

Sorry for the late reply, but I wasn't quite certain if the question was directed at me or Surpluzz.

@DarioCruz929 жыл бұрын
I've been reading that there's a noticeable difference in power, but was there a more noticeable heat or vibration difference on the Slim S, with the SE110, then on the Deluxe? It will be interesting when H-D throws that kit on a Dyna... a Street Bob S.

The suspension on the demo bikes is stiffer because they don't know what kind of people is going to be riding the bikes bud. But yeah. The seat is tiny regardless! The bike is a bit low but for highway use it's pretty damn awesome

I like the video. I've had my eye on this Softail Slim "S" for a while; the design done in black. I like, however, what you had to say about the bike's overall look. Yeah, personally, I'd prefer that the bike's look was toned down a little like the Deluxe model.
@Ted_Stryker8 жыл бұрын
Just took delivery of the same bike a couple weeks ago. I love it. Just had to adjust the suspension stiffness, of course. I'm about 190 lbs and they had it cranked up for someone who weighs about 300 lbs, lol. Great review btw.

How's the comfort on the bike now that it's been adjusted?
@Ted_Stryker8 жыл бұрын
Err1c it rides fine, now. About as comfortable as a standard softail suspension can ride, I guess. Not as jarring over big bumps. That's for sure.

Dear Supluzz, thanks a lot for an excellent the review, you covered all the important point. I used to own a 2009 fat bob and very eager to get a new Harely. The S series is the most attractive as of now. Your video just made my decision so much easier. Love the fact that harley now offers cruisers with a little bit of umph. Always a fan of the slim and fatboy. So my next question is, have you ridden/reviewed the fatboy s? How would you compare it with the softail slim S?

Thinking of getting the 2016 Softail Slim with the Olive Gold. Has the 103 cu in. Would seem to have plenty of power and less $$$. Replace the chrome gas caps with flush black. Also thinking how would distressed brown leather seat work, colorwise. Lot less $$$. $15,300 compared to $18 something (altho that has ABS standard). Love to see all the bikes on the road in your video.

The stock seat and shocks that come on this bike suck. However if you put a Mustang seat, progressive shocks on it. It will ride smoother than a stock street glide.

6th gear @ 1600 rpm...... ppl who lug the motor like this, are the same ppl who are getting the engines replaced at 30k for scissoring a crank. yes it will run all day in 6th gear at 45 mph, but your torturing the bottom end. he should be riding in 5th or even 4th, with the rpms closer to 2500. its sad to watch ppl tear these bikes up, then blame harley for poor design. its just sad. learning to never lug an engine is important to engine life span for any engine, not just the twincam motors. thats why some riders get 100k out of thier twincams, and thats also why some riders are getting a complete rebuiilds done at 30k. dont ride like this guy in 6th at 45mph...... yes the bike will do it, and yes it will feel nice, you can feel the piston pulses, it feels and sounds cool, and most even think the engine is meant to do that. its not good for it at all. i can promise you, he will only loose maybe 1mpg for riding at 45mph at closer to 2500rpm, but thats how you get 100k out of these bikes. i know its an old post, but this advice is timeless to anyone who enjoys these bikes. dont take my word for it, research , cross refrence harley crank scissoring engine lugging, timkin bearings and crank runout. these are awsome machines, but they are air cooled vintage style engines, despite being new you have to learn and be familiar with this stuff, or else you will destroy it. learn how not to ride it and it will last a lifetime
