For someone driving a C220d, which by my standard has adequate power, saying that 245 hp is enough to haul you around town seems like a bit of an understatement. 6 secs to 100 km/h is more than "fast enough" in my book!

As a W124 driver, I'm rather curious of this new W213. I understand it is inevitable to incorporate more and more technologies into a car, but it simply overwhelming & overcomplicated. So the current model has a 540L boot? I'm very surprised to hear that. Certainly, that's what the local (Au) specs say, in the brochure. That means it's bigger than the Caprice boot, which is absolutely enormous. I'll have to go and have a look at one. However, I've noticed something a bit suspicious. Checking the North American specs at edmunds.com, the capacity is 15.9 cu ft. I'm not going to *directly* convert this to litres, because it's almost always much smaller than the Australian specification. (presumably due to difference measuring standards) But, what I WILL do is compare it to the Hyundai Genesis, which is listed at 15.3 cu ft. So, using the American specs, the E-class is only 4% larger than a Genesis, and the Genesis is not considered to be a large boot. (at least, not in my circles - I'm a limo driver). Applying a 4% increase to the Australian specification for the Genesis (which is 493L), yields only 512L. I wonder who has the most meaningful boot measuring techniques - the U.S, or Australia?
@gregsullivan74088 жыл бұрын
+Greg Sullivan The plot thickens further. Checking the actual E-Class brochures, the current model is actually spec'd at 12.9 cu ft. I had to go back to the 2014 brochure before I could find a spec that matches Edmunds (15.9 cu ft) I checked the U.S site for the Hyundai Genesis, and it does match Edmunds: 15.3 cu ft. For the time being, I'm going to take the Aussie spec for the E-class with a HUGE grain of salt! (however, even if the E-Class is actually smaller than the Genesis, at least the seats can be folded down. Can't do that with the Genesis) It'll be interesting to see what the 2017 E-Class boot spec is. Note: previous reply heavily edited - I thought the 2016 brochure was for the latest/newest model, but of course it's not.
@gregsullivan74088 жыл бұрын
+Greg Sullivan Did some more Googling - found a post by someone who actually asked Mercedes about the apparent reduction in boot capacity between 2014 and 2015 - they said that there was no reduction - the cars are identical. The difference is the result of using a different measuring standard. It's incredible that a whopping 19% reduction in capacity can result just by changing measuring standard!
@gregsullivan74088 жыл бұрын
+Greg Sullivan Just to highlight the vast discrepancy between the U.S and Australian specs - the current U.S spec is 12.9 cu ft = 365L. The current Aussie spec is 540L. I find that absolutely astonishing. FWIW, this paper looks promising: papers.sae.org/2011-01-0781/ "Quantifying Enclosed Space and Cargo Volume". Quoting: "The customer benefits from a common measuring and reporting system that would readily allow them to more accurately compare the cargo volumes of different manufacturers' vehicles." Of course, that will never happen. ;^)

I want the automakers to supply an app that allows the user to tailor the instrument cluster. For instance, the progressive mode with a combination nav and a rev counter with a digital speedometer annoys the hell out me. I don't need a rev counter in an automatic car and I hate digital speedometers. All I need is a needle gauge for speed and the nav insert. It would be simple to allow the owner to design his own gauge cluster. I am so picky about this that I will walk away from a vehicle with digital a speedometer and if Mercedes offers a usable screen with a small nav insert, that I can only get in combination with a digital speedometer, I will have to take my money elsewhere. The car industry seems the be behind the curve when it comes to user tech. The car is full of tech, but it is like the automakers don't realise the potential of that technology and how easy it is to adapt to preferences. Look at the desktop of any pc user. They are wildly different. Which icon or tiles and how they are arranged varies greatly from user to user. At least open the source code to third party vendors and makes different designs and clusters downloadable from a Mercedes app store. Basic skin design.

I went from a BMW 3 series to a 2017 E300. The 3 series drove and handled better. My E300 was peppered with problems. Had to bring it in the shop over 25 times in the first few months. Ridiculous! I bought a car do drive, not to bring it into the shop twice a week for several months! They put me in another E300 (this time a package with heads up display and massaging seats, etc.). First few months, in the shop over 6 times, and Mercedes initially refused to fix the creaking in my door when it went over bumpy roads because they could not duplicate it! Then they were able to duplicate it but wouldn't fix it because it wasn't "continuous" enough! Screw Mercedes! What a POS product they produce! I took a huge loss on the trade in for a BMW. It's night and day! The BMW drives and handles great and has no rattles. It nearly glides everywhere I go. But I paid the price to experience how bad Mercedes is! I will NEVER buy a Mercedes again!

Look the car at 0.31 - I'll give you 5 bucks if you can find 10 differences between brand new E-class and the current C-class generation launched in 2014... can you? And speaking for advanced car... soon the unnecessary thing in cars will be the driver - then what is the point of having a car go and use bloody public transport!

Grille, Bumper, Emblem, Lights, and Hood. Proportions and design are slightly different, most noticable is the bumper and lights, and you have a valid point, but public transport isn't readily available everywhere. (example: rural areas and some suburban areas) and I don't think heads of states and most executives would take public transportation. (Example: The President of the United States) So, eventually your notion will be plausible I believe but not for a while.

Harsimran Bhatti Apart of the slighter longer body the proportions are the same. Grill bumper etcetera - I wouldn't call it different it is just a variation of the same product - small and insignificant. The people you mentioned are chauffeured and it is pretty much same story you are not behind the wheel. Elan Musk said that in near future it will be illegal to drive your car - sorry I don't want such future! Probably the next that the future going to prohibit is to make sex with my girlfriend because there are robots for the job. At the end thinking will be unwanted and prohibited by law. If this is the future that people want please give me a favour and shoot me in my head before the governments did it for violations of this laws!!!

***** The key point is "Audi WAS" yes and now Audi is trying to change it and probably in next few year they will. Merc on the other hand didn't have such brutal similarity until release the last few models. Yes there should have some family and brand recognition, yes there should have some reasonable saving because economy and profit... but it is too brutal now! It is too identical! Look over the entire brand list only the size is different. No thanks I might change my nickname because I really start hate this mass-production! May be should change it to Kia fen because they have more design ideas in their cars... and not offer antonymous driving shit, yet!

***** There is a point in what you said, but the image of the brand based mostly on the fens. If you lose fens no matter if it is because bad quality or design you loose market because fens are those who convince other people to buy this brand. When you buying stuff you ask friends, families and special groups. And if someone ask me is it good, should I buy it my answer will be safe your money take the C-class - and Merc loose money because the profit from the bigger models is bigger, OR I will say wait a little bit and first try the new Audi A6. It is not that easy.

Man so you're worried that people mistake your e class with the c class? Make sure that when you buy a car you care more about how it drives and the technology and safety features it offers rather than just the look alone, especially if it's the same brand name

+Ke Z - LOL. Trust us, when we say A, you'll know it. It's basically a capital A then all the 'Y's in the world.
