OK, i went through all that and the bottom will NOT come off. The top two came back but the bottom will not let go. What to do? have you seen this before? Also, I cannot press the top two back into position. can you offer help and advice please! How to you get it to go back on because mine is ajar.

Alright, hey, buddy, I'm back. So, just to bring you up to speed, yes, my airbag deployed. I've removed the deployed airbag, broke the yellow connector behind it but i ordered a new one. I'm positive that i can butt splice it together and I plan on picking up a new airbag tomorrow. My question is simply this... if I hook up the new airbag, will the airbag light go off or is that something that I need to do separately? Also, same question for the seatbelts when I replace those because they also locked up when I had my accident

You'll need to pick up replacement seat belts. You can find those at most used car part locations, LKQ, ebay, online, etc. Check your buckle as well as sometimes they have a pretensioner in it that deploys also. These SRS components are actuated by the SRS module, which is located under the center console, oftentimes to the right of your gas pedal under the dash. I can't recall offhand where it is in your car. These modules are in many cases single use, meaning when SRS equipment is activated, the module needs replaced as well. That will deactivate your airbag light and ensure your replacement equipment works if you were to need them again.

@@CrowtownAuto yeah, I'm picking up the replacement seatbelts also. But if I install them without replacing that module, will they be locked up on me again? Also, my original question was about the airbag light. Will that reset itself when I install a new airbag?

@mikehill3407 to my knowledge if you don't replace the control module the light will stay on and the airbag will not function. The replacement seat belts will work as normal unless you were to have another accident, in which case they wouldnt lock and severe injury could result.

I found a good working video of removing the console and accessing the module. As stated in the video, it may require programming to marry the replacement module to your vehicle. I'm unsure of any resetting of the existing module though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWXRfJl6rNVjedU

@@CrowtownAuto the cover of the actual steering wheel. The only part you didn't remove on camera. The part that says "Nissan" on it

That's the part that breaks when the airbag deploys. To my knowledge it's not removable from the rest of the bag assembly.

Okay, so I got the airbag off. But that black clip on the yellow connector broke. Do I need to replace the connector?

It's more of a locking mechanism, not a huge deal as long as the plug is pushed all the way in on reinstall. If you're concerned, maybe a piece of tape over the connector to add a little extra wouldn't hurt.

Ohhh. That's ungood. If the wires aren't attached to the plug anymore you may need to replace the clockspring. This is all dependant upon whether this is the same airbag you started with or if you're taking one out that's deployed to put another in. Sometimes the clockspring behind the steering wheel that that yellow plug goes to needs replaced as well if the airbag goes off.
