2016 Volkswagen Polo GTI track day review | CarAdvice

At a little over $27k, the 2016 Volkswagen Polo GTI isn't just the GTI for those who can't afford a Golf GTI, it's a properly good thing in its own right. But we want to know how it’s going to handle the track here at Sandown Raceway.
One of the most competitively priced and well-specced light hot hatches on sale, the 2016 Polo GTI comes standard with a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera, halogen daytime running lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
There’s also a six-speed manual transmission, tartan sports seats, a red-stripped honeycomb grille, plenty of GTI reminders, a neat rear wing, and dual chrome-tipped exhausts.
It is a touch more expensive than CarAdvice favourite, the Ford Fiesta ST, but it’s cheaper than the feisty Renault Clio RS200.
Under the bonnet is a new turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder, replacing the previous Polo GTI's twin-charged 1.4-litre. And if you go with the manual, you get 141kW of power and 320Nm of torque.
The rest is standard baby hot hatch: five seats, a small boot, and reasonable levels of practicality.

I've had my manual 2016 model for a few months now and have been loving it. While it wasn't as engaging as the Fiesta ST or the Clio RS to drive, it's the better choice for a daily driver imo. The cabin and build quality are top notch, the engine is punchy with heaps of torque, being able to turn sport mode on and off is great for when you just want to cruise comfortably. It's a very sweet little package and a great all round hot hatch. Nice review guys!

Hi mate what do you think about the fuel consumption? I'm seriously considering it but my mate said it eats oil up ....

+Alex Ho The 1.4tsi twincharge motor in the older model Polo GTI was known for having oil usage issues, the new 1.8tsi in this updated model doesn't seem to have this same problem. Mine hasn't used a drop of oil since picking it up 3 months ago. Fuel consumption has been acceptable, I get anything from 7l/100km to 9.6l/100km depending on how I drive it.

To be fair....less than 1% of buyers would be taking one to the racetrack. Give me the refinement, comfort, build quality and interior over the ST any day. BUT, if I was going to take my hatch to race day events on a regular basis then the ST is the better car no doubt about it.

it's a city car. so i think i wouldn't mind it being a lil less sporty cuz on a daily basis it can be a problem. i hope u found it be a good mix of sportiness and comfort

The rear is my favorite thing about this polo and has become more so as the years have gone on. Especially when a diffuser is added.

the polo gti has led lights i bought the new one. i had the former polo with bi xenon and the new one lights so much better. but the models may not be the same it must depend of the country. in france you get the led headlight as basis.
