Pretty standard for a student competition these days. Teaches them design, engineering, electronics, programming, collaborating, trouble-shooting and other skills. The first video linked above seems pretty standard too. Most school children have built bridges out of dried spaghetti, right? Stands to reason that in a fault zone where buildings have to be earthquake proof the university students have to learn how. As for the second link, _fierljeppen_ (or canal vaulting) is a popular summer sport in the Netherands, a bit like pole vaulting. It's world famous. Unlike some sports it's also a fairly practical way of getting something done; in this case, crossing a canal. If you're looking for an example of an obscure competition I'd suggest cheese-rolling, nettle eating, bo-taoshi, chess boxing, bog snorkelling, ferret legging, shin kicking, human tower or touching a truck, none of which are much use to anyone or any fun.

I was part of something similar at my uni, but we used some kind of lego set to build the robot and the software that came with it. The robot was bulky, too heavy for its own good and the sensors were slow and had limited useability. It's interesting to see such a near perfect demonstration. Did the contestants know the layout of the race track beforehand?
@suhu93795 жыл бұрын
No, the robot has to memorize in some way the race track during its first run. The robot can then plan its fastest running speed for small and large curve turns, and straight track. Picture of the robot, facebook.com/TaiwanMIRContest/photos/a.416501475047665/1699648766732923/?type=3&theater

If the robot was smart, it would go back 3 feet from start to finish and finish in 0.5 seconds.
@097_shashanksahu6 Жыл бұрын
I just have couple of question please do answer, it would help me a lot. 1 - In the first run robot maps the track, it know where there are curve paths and where are straight path, how? Do you used any special sensor for it or it can be done just using a wheel encoder. 2 - How the robot stops at the initial position in first run itself, does it know the track length? 3- What is the use of white strips on the sides of track?
@suhu9379 Жыл бұрын
Take the running direction as a reference. The white strip prompts at the right hand side are for the area of start/stop. The left hand side prompts are for curvature change at the track. Encoders can be used to record running lengths between curvature change signs. The command for rotation speed to follow the track could be used to identify the values of the curvature. Hope that I did answer your questions.

@@sew-shivaengineeringworks7868 Oh snap. That's awesome. Btw, just wanna let you know that I am in no way related to the guy who made this, but I do have experience in robotics. I would recommend picking up an Arduino kit and doing some of those projects. To get good at building robots like this, there isn't some magical formula. You want to learn the general rules, and you can basically building anything. Also, the reason this robot is so good is that it's basically pushing the limits. It's as light as possible with the highest power to weight ratio possible. It's got very high traction tires and a wide wheelbase so it's stable. It's got steering to enable cleaner turns. The code and control algorithms are probably very very well optimized. That's basically what goes into making this so awesome. :)
