Hands down the best type of modern shifters by now. The gear selection for Park is neat af. 1. Audi console shifters. 2. Stick shifters + paddle. 3. Column shifters. 4. Small lever. 5. Rotary. 6. Buttons.

@EricAtMazda4 жыл бұрын
Tom Penning de Vries You can use them any time. If you use them outside of manual mode it will just temporarily place the car in manual mode and it will go back to Drive after a little while. You can force the car back into Drive while in temporary manual override by holding the (+) paddle or flicking the gear shift back once (how you would normally toggle Drive/Sport).

Hi mercmilan06 - great video, THANKS. :) This has been very helpful for me as I await the delivery of my new 2018 Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI Quattro. I have a question about going from D to N: Does the side "unlock button" on the selector lever always need to be pressed to do this? I'm guessing it does. It appears the unlock button always needs to be pressed to: 1. Come out of P to select D, N or R 2. Come out of D to select N or R Per your demonstration I was pleased to see that you're able to go from R to N (and then on to D) without having to press the unlock button - makes things just a little easier to go into D after backing up, etc. Cheers Richard
@21cs150406 жыл бұрын
Wondering how it was possible for you to Shift from R to D without using the button on the side? Also wondering if the handbrake is automaticly applied when you lock the car? Thanks if you can answer my questions

Xigolle You can do that in a most cars with a normal shifter and the parking brake is not applied automatically unless you open the door while in a drive gear I believe.

I actually have a somewhat different question this time. I have rear parking sensors in my 2018 A4 and wonder wether the acoustics are supposed to indicate the direction of the obstacle. As in that the sound would come from the left back when an obstacle is on that side as well. Do you know the answer to this?

I own an audi, but I see here something wrong. with this shifter the driver has no more visual on the position of the shifter, the mechanical shifter classical one, moves back and forth and right PRNDS and M on the right, a different position for each mode while this one PNRDS keeps the same position, looks confusing, with the usual one I can switch between modes without having to look at the letter indicator, plus I dont really trust that much electronics, this is definitely unnecessarily over complicated.

I Dont Know What To Name Myself So Here Is My Name The shifter is the right size and height to rest your wrist on while using the MMI controller. The setup works pretty well in practice. If you order the car with a manual transmission, the control layout is reversed and the MMI controls are behind the shifter.

So they learned absolutely nothing from Jeep. Can't wait for the recall.
@vwestlife7 жыл бұрын
It's slightly better because you push a button to go into Park instead of having to count how many times you push the lever forward. Still, someone not used to it might habitually push it forward, thinking that's how to put it in Park, and then take their foot off the brake before realizing that the car is still in gear. And I really don't understand what was so wrong with a traditional movable shift lever that it had to be redesigned!? It can't even be any cheaper to manufacture than a normal shift lever, with the little electric motor they had to put in there to do the trick he showed in the video!
@ConnecticutDashcam7 жыл бұрын
Hashbrowniepie Automatically goes to park when you shut the car off regardless
@Hashbrowniepie7 жыл бұрын
Fair enough but it's still harder to tell what gear you're in at a glance. The isn't even a color change to indicate what gear you're in other than for park. Also what if you're resting your arm on the shifter and accidentally shift it into sport mode since you don't need to press anything to unlock it. This just seems like it has way more chances for human error than the traditional system and I don't really see any benefits.
@spoiler911291127 жыл бұрын
There will be no recall. The only similarity between the two shifters is that the knob returns to its original position. Although unique, the design is completely safe.
@vwestlife7 жыл бұрын
spoiler9112 T Does it automatically go into Park when you open the driver's door with the engine running? Or at least beep at you loudly to warn you that it's still in gear?
@Xixu.co.67 жыл бұрын
This is terrible. Why does all the new technology have to make simple things complicated? Now you have to click or double click and put it to the side then press another button. So unnecessary.
@daniellee1977 жыл бұрын
No it looks much simple. well it seems little complicated but not that much you said. The purpose of all new technology is to reduce drivers' and passengers' physical action. You just put the button instead of pulling a parking break lever. That's what people want. Companies are not stupid enough to make unnecessary stuffs. Some people like classic stuffs and do not want that kind of tech. you can buy a cheaper car If you don't want any latest technologies.
@Xixu.co.67 жыл бұрын
This isn't technology, it's stupidity. Lever in a straight line with a cable. Move it to the position you want. That makes sense, it's simple, reliable, easy to fix, and has worked flawlessly for 100 years. Ratcheting blob with buttons that moves in multiple directions, uses sensors to tell a computer to activate electronic actuators in the transmission to move the shift selector. Over complicated, more parts = more chance for failure, completely unservicable without additional diagnostic computers and specialty tools, significantly more expensive, no actual benefit whatsoever.
@daniellee1977 жыл бұрын
V.Vega oh that's not complicated that's called precise system. You know, Airplanes are even more complicated. More chance to fail I agree. But people who has money they always want more convenient, luxury, and different styles. They never cares how much does it cost to fix. And push and pull button type parking break is common now. You can even see this in Mazda cars. And I have nothing to say if you don't trust any electric devices or high tech. I choose this and You can choose whatever you want.
@Xixu.co.67 жыл бұрын
Aircraft manufacturers have such little trust in electronics that everything fly by wire has four separate redundant systems to make sure that total failure is virtually impossible. Look at older hydraulic flight control systems, most are singly redundant, while even older cable and linkage controlled planes have no redundancy. Consider the fact that the surfaces these systems are controlling have thousands of pounds of force being applied to them at all times during flight, making the more advanced systems more user friendly and less fatiguing. It makes sense in that application. A shifter in your car takes MAYBE 1lb of force to move, and you only have to do it once. Logically there is no reason to stray from a proven system to a complicated, more failure prone system to save what? 1oz of force? Its a ridiculous waste of time and money and an unnecessary failure risk.
@daniellee1977 жыл бұрын
V.Vega V.Vega have u ever got any problems of electric function on your car? I think you are talking what u want to. I think You should bring any proven research results or theses in order to verify your opinion. I haven't got any failures about electric functions of my car yet. Should cars have much more layers of fail safe systems like aircrafts? I don't think so. I know what's your point but people like it because it's cool, convenient and general trend. and you don't have to criticize audi or other high tech because you are not gonna buy it.
