Hey everyone, 2018 330i here: The expansion hose broke off of mine as well - DO NOT take off the intake manifold, there's no need to. There are videos out there that tell you to take off the manifold when that would absolutely be a waste of time! Be patient instead :)

That plastic/rubber line was involved in a recall. The replacement line is metal so the fittings on the ends won’t break off. Dealer replaced in half day, no charge to customer.

Your video saved me from a disaster my brother! Last year I was camping with my family 400 miles away from home. Went to buy some groceries, on the way back from the shop a low coolant lvl worning popped up and shortly after high engine temp warning. I pulled over, opened the bonnet and everything was sprayed with coolant. Got my car towed to the camp site and started looking for the issue. Found you video, put my hand behind the alternator and I could feel one of the hoses being completely loose. So I knew what the issue was. Ordered new part from locar BMW dealer along with some coolant. Got the part the next day. Got everything fixed and running in less than 2 hours. If it wasn't for your video I'd be removing the intake manifold etc just like other people on some forums suggested. You saved me a lot of time and problems!!!! But.... I have to remove the intake manifold anyway because my coolant temp sensor decided to die on Saturday and I don't think I can access it without removing the intake. This car and it's cooling system is just such a pain. I really wish bmw didn't decide to have this engine operate at nearly 110C. I wouldn't mind slightly lower mpg but better reliability.

@@6rubios I know, right? I had no choice, 400miles away from home, started researching internet for the similar issues and came across your video. And thanks to you it wasn't that much of a problem to get it fixed. I thing having to go to bmw dealership that was about 40miles away cased me much more hassle than getting the issue sorted out.

Thank you. Nice and easy. Will replace it in mine as soon as I have time. This part is well known to break in the B46/48 engines.

UPDATE EVERYONE!!!! My daughter just got a letter from BMW. They referenced this part and are replacing it for free if you have this hose on your vehicle. I’m not sure which models had this hose on it but if your having this problem you may want to contact your local BMW dealership and get this work done for free!!!

so what do i tell the dealer? mines just busted, coolent all over my garage. im gonna take it to dealer tommorw and need it fixed for free.

I believe this happened to my F36 430 GC at 20k, dealer replaced because my car was still under warranty. Fast forward 1.5 years later and 47k miles, I get another low coolant warning. Idk if they will repair it because I’m no longer under warranty. Did your daughter still have warranty? Thank you for the video!

I just had mine replaced today, 2017 330i. Took it in for service and they said there was a recall for it.

For the b48 120i there’s no recall 👀 guess I’ll have to take the hit. It’s only £36.11 in uk

Another thought, instead of replacing with the same part, can we install with aftermarket generic coolant hose, which is sold in length cut from roll, and lock it up with hose clips instead? I'm thinking the aftermarket hose may last longer, since it's rollable and flexible, rather than the rigid plastic routing hose having to deal with mechanical stresses.

@@6rubios hey there. I just removed this pipe and it seems like it was replaced before (it is made in 09/07/2020, the car is 2017) and it doesn’t seem like that it is leaking. But when I looked under the intake manifold there definitely are some wet spots. Any idea where it might leak?

Just had this happen on my 2017 BMW 330i. Easy DIY. Took me about 2 hours of slow work. You can reach around with your hand behind the alternator ! When I went to dealership for a replacement, they had plenty on hand in stock, which tells me they are making a killing on this fix. Shouldn't dealership tell you to replace this preemptively before you get stranded on freeway ?? This should be a class action law suit. Loss of coolant will get this turbo engines super hot very quick. Replace this ASAP. Thank you for this post. MSRP for this part is $44 but you can get it online for $35-40. Get BMW blue coolant and mix with distilled water 50/50 once you done.

Peak Anti-Freeze also makes a non-nitrate/non-phosphate coolant. Per the parts guy at BMW that’s the way to go. The non-nitrate and non-phosphate is the trademark that makes that coolant different from the rest.

@@6rubios hey man my 2017 currently has the same leak I tried calling BMW to see if it can be covered and they still have to charge 275$ for a diagnostic Eventhough a shop did the diagnostic and found where exactly is the leak which was this and they have a wierd warranty policy that if it falls within BMW recall and advisement policy the diagnostic and repair would be covered they didn’t even mention how much the repair is

The video is perfect thanks. Sadly my mechanic don't want to do it that way and want the official job, 5 hours labor...no thanks Just to know, how did you released the hose bracket engine side ? Screwdriver won't works, and pliers/tongs seem too short or too fat for the job ?

I used a 1/4” ratchet with a socket and extension.

Hi, thanks for the details. How did you unplugged the hose bracked of the cylinder head ? You didn't and just pulled by hand ? also, did you ran a bleeding process after this of any sort ?

You have to pull the retainer clip on the hose end and then just pull the hose straight off. The retainer clip doesn’t come fully off the hose it just pulls out about 3/4”. No on the bleeding process. I just filled the reservoir back up and kept an eye on the coolant levels for a few weeks.

@@CODTalent it’s worth calling them to ask. I took mine in for an oil change and it was leaking and they replaced it under a recall.

Hi. Can we just let the crankcase valve open to the air without connecting it back to the coolant reservoir, and close the hole on the coolant reservoir not connecting it back to the crankcase PCV? It may be a crazy idea. 😂 Thank you for making this informative video.

I would not advise that. Your cooling system is designed for the coolant to circulate and keep your engine and components cool. As soon as you do that your cylinder head will over heat, warp, and/or blow a gasket. You’ll turn a $100 job into a $10K job in about 20 minutes.

A wrench will work but a ratchet would be better. If I recall it’s a 10mm bolt, but I could be wrong. As long as you have a 3/8” or 1/4” ratchet and a metric socket set you should be good.
