I know you most likely don't have this anymore, but I heard if you change the transmission fluid and filter and put moble 1 synthetic transmission fluid in it, the shifting gets smoother.

Have a '17 w/o any problems.....have been off road in thick mud multiple times, and daily dive it 160 miles round trip every third day for work....only issues use I've had is two taillight bulbs and some jackleg denting my bed with a door or cart...transmission shifts smooth every time and average 25 mpg hwy with a tonneau cover....would not hesitate to buy another, and would love to upgrade to a Bison!

ok, Apples to Oranges here, look at your old trucks, full size, even oversized than reg cabs you have there, and you want to compare a smaller size model to those from the past (way past, I'd say from mid 70s model fords maybe even older) and those have huge V8s that you want to compare to a modern V6, not comparable anywhere on the planet Bud. stick to what you know, it's not Chevys smaller trucks, if you got a chevy full size truck same/near age of your fords, I think you would find them comparable, just as good as your old trucks. If you want an off road model truck, shop for one that is equipped for that.

Got a 2018 Colorado, I feel like it's a combination of the 8-speed and the cylinder deactivation. I feel the luggy behavior as well, but my truck only has 6k miles (no towing or heavy bed loads) so I am getting nervous after watching that. It must be just an issue like I said, because I demo'd a v6 Silverado with the 6-speed cylinder deactivation, and it had 4k miles on it and ran very well. I'm disappointed to see so many issues on such a beautiful truck, I love my Colorado, but I'm afraid I might have to find a way out of it as well.

@SpiderJesus_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@juanmoreno1586 I traded it in for the much more reliable 5.3 Silverado in 2019 (new generation). At the end of the day, it seems like it was the active deactivation and poor gear management on the Colorado, because my 2019 Silverado had their new dynamic deactivation and I didn't notice any lugging. If you are looking to purchase used, i would avoid the 2015-19 Colorado with active deactivation.
@aerynlovell4754
@aerynlovell4754 Жыл бұрын
Cylinder deactivation in the Canyon and Colorado started in 2017. The 2015 and 2016 engines didn't have Cylinder deactivation. I looked at a used 2016 GMC Canyon 4x4 that had a lot of body damage. There was no paint above the wheel wells and light surface rust on the exposed metal. The truck had 100,000 Kilometers and when I pressed my fingernail against the rusty area the metal was solid, it wasn't soft and there were no rust holes. After seeing the damaged Canyon I felt confident that the truck was made from good-quality steel. In January 2023 I bought a 2016 GMC Canyon 2wd extended cab long box with a manual transmission without seeing it in person. Even though I only had pictures to make my decision I knew that the transmission can be replaced with a Tremic and the engine can eventually be replaced with a port-injected 4.3L V6 stroker. I can fix the wiper issue by getting extra wiper arms, cut them apart, and weld back together in a "Z" that puts the wiper higher on the window. Several years ago most of the vehicles at car shows had a GM 350 small block and a 700R4 transmission because GM engines and transmissions used to be reliable. What happened to GM quality and reliability? On various Colorado and Canyon message boards, people talk about GM refusing to honor the warranty by claiming they couldn't replicate the problem. However, as soon as the warranty expires they find the problem and tell the owner it will cost a few thousand to fix it.

I have a 2015 and it is a piece of garbage. 10 Recalls. Infotainment screen blew out after 9 days from buying it with only 200 miles. I had mud flaps installed from the dealership when I purchased it and the snow still hits the rear wheel wells from the front tires and those clear stickers pads do not work. The paint is all chipped up. Rattling noise and when hitting small bumps from the front end. Engine knocking while accelerating . Took in into the dealership and they know about this issue but no fix except to run 93 octane gas. The knocking stopped but returns when switching back to 87 octane. Don't buy the GMC. The 8 speed is defective. Massive shuddering and torque convertor failures. GM has been having these issues for 5 years. Huge multistate class action just started over this. They have had several TSB's to try to fix. Nothing has. Also avoid anything with the new 10 speed. That includes the new ranger and some of the F-150's. These new transmissions are junk. They are having issues as well. On the mid size the only reliable truck is the Frontier. And the pro 4X is pretty nice. Get allot for you money and its tough offroad. But Nissans 4.0 five speed is bullet proof. Like the second generation tacomas. They will run 200-300K miles. The only reason the Nissan is still good is it was not updated to these new advanced transmission that are ALL crap.

@NateBuildingBricks 5 жыл бұрын
@@HiPlains1 What about the 2016 GMC like I mentioned? You said to avoid the 8 speed, but the 2016 is a 6 speed transmission. They added the 8 speed in recent years. The Nissan is fine, but I don't like the old look of it. The ones I have test driven were mostly bumpy rides as well, while every Canyon or Colorado I have driven are really great riding trucks. Same goes with the F150. The Tacoma has the worst ride out of any of them I have driven.
@HiPlains1

@@NateBuildingBricks The Nissan pro 4X is the one I just bought. And the ride is pretty nice. Maybe not as soft as the Colorado but pretty good. More capable off road. The bilsteins shocks and offroad suspension make it better off/on road. If you get the Frontier the 4 PRO X is the only one to get IMO. Get allot for you money. Wicked 10 speaker with sub Rockford fosgate stereo, leather, sunroof. Its a bullet proof design. The 2016 Gm Twins had the 6 speed as you say but they also had problems. Also had shuttering and torque convertor problems. In short, the transmission has been crap on the GM trucks for 5 years. You best bet is to go with the 6 speed and duramax. Those seem to be the most reliable. Except they have such a advanced exhaust DEF system that I'd be concerned about expensive sensor repairs when out of warranty . I'm buying the Nissan mainly for its all around functional layout. Comfortable seate (8 way power up front much better then GM's) and most reliable engine in class 4.0 V6 and five speed. Not crazy about the tacoma's 3.5 the transmission tune is horrid. Only leaves the Ford Ranger and its 10K more. Not worth. And now hearing issues with the 10 speed on the full size Ford/GM trucks. The 10 speed being developed by GM/Ford.

@@blackwellaustin1 Hauling does not play into the issue. Its a pretty random problem. Many will see the issue early on in the first few thousand miles. Others see it at 30, 40K etc.. And its been happening since 2017 when they put the 8 speed into the Colorado. And also before when they used it in the Cadillac CTS and vettes, etc.. going back to 2015. For some owners the issue was never resolved and GM has had to buy back a fair amount of these under the lemon law (currently a multi state class action over it too!). It reminds me of the early ticking time bomb on the earlier model Pathfinders/Frontiers from 2005-2010. In that, the ATI line in radiator would crack and cross contamination of radiator fluid and transmission. Killing both instantly. My pathfinder drove great until that moment it happened to me and bam, just like that. I am in the market for a mid size and not caring to gamble if the shudder will happen to me. Its allot of money. The Tacoma has a gutless transmission so I crossed that off my list. Meanwhile Nissan's frontier is problem free. Rated one of the most reliable out there. And I got a PRO 4X with leather, rockford fosgate 10 speaker stereo/sub and sunroof for just under 35K. It got bilsteins shocks, several steel plates to cover underbody, rear locker, etc.. this truck is much more capable then a Z71. And people get 300K miles on these motors. And that is proven. With tax/title and 100K 10 years warranty with no deductibles I'm paying just under 38K. I'll take the proven tech and functionality of the Nissan over anything that has the new adaptive learning transmission with computers BS. There are too many reports of problems with the GM twins. Third generation taco is crap as well and Toy is not the reliable king they once were. They might be the sales king but Nissan is the most reliable and capable truck for the money.

Don't count the frontier out. Its an old design but still kicking it in the Pro 4X trim. Just bought a Pro 4X with leather, 10 speaker with sub rockford fosgate, NAV, sunroof, factory spray bed liner, dual climate auto climate controls, 8 way power seats, 31 inch all terrain tires with bilstein shocks and offroad suspension with skid plate on everything. The VQ 4.0 V6 is buttery smooth with its 5 speed auto with overdrive and that will last 300K miles. Last of the heavy duty powertrain. It has a more planted ride but still very comfortable. Build quality is insane. No rattles etc.. I mean this is like a 45K dollar lariat for 10K less. And IMO, is just as capable and most likely will be a ton more reliable. @@3Betzman Just make sure you get the one with 6 way power seats. I think they have better adjustment. Especially on the thigh support moving the seat up more. The seats are still too narrow for my tastes. I came really close to buying one but the 8 speed has turned me off. I ended up buying a loaded Nissan pro 4X and very happy. Totally old school type of truck but its reliable. I hope for GM they have finally fixed the problem. Because these things are going to start falling out of warranty soon. And IMO, they should be doing the flush on all existing trucks but that would cost a pretty penny. We are talking about half million trucks at around 3 hours per flush. They will never do it. Just be damn sure that your 19 has the new fluid and that it was put in at the factory. I'd make them put that in writing as well or whatever it takes to make sure it was done. That was the last straw for me. My truck was about to be built (custom build) and the manager called back east and they confirmed that they would NOT put the new fluid in. And somebody higher up at GM also told me that about 20 percent will exhibit the behavior. Needless to say I said hell no. They gave me back my 1K and I'm done with GM. I mean all I wanted was them to put the new fluid at factory. About a month later I heard that they finally started to. But that was too late to keep me as a GM customer. Old perceptions are hard to break and my perceptions of GM are going back to how they behaved in 2008. And that was not good times for GM. Plus the other thing that gives me allot of PAUSE is that they had the same issues with the Caddilac, Corvette, and Camaro in 2015-16 before they fixed it and still put it into the GM twins. And of course, the problem continued. Only now in 5 models instead of three. They are in litigation with multiple states now because they did that. And there is plenty of documentation to prove it. So yeah, I don't trust this company either.

Keep taking it into the dealership for the vibration problem until it is fixed or the truck then qualifies for lemon law buy back. Trading it in for something will lead you to losing your shirt, underwear, and one sock financially.

@HiPlains1

@@mikefranklin70 I think the newer tacoma's are pretty reliable now. They had issues when they first came out with third gen in 2016. But its still a complicated Atkinson cycle active learning transmission with miserable shift points that kill torque. Its a gutless setup. GM is still struggling with the shudder issues with the 8 speed. They have a new fluid and Bosch transflo machine to flush for those that present the issue but they refuse to use it on existing trucks until they mess up. And they don't put it in new production yet. I have ALLOT of pause on the reliability on these newer transmissions that sole purpose in life is to get a few more MPG's and meet CAFE goals and the EPA. Ranger may be ok but its still very new. And the 10 speed it has does have issues in some of the full size GM/FORD. IT was co -developed by GM/Ford. So yeah, that leaves Nissan as the loan trans/motor tune that is proven. And the new JD power long term survey of owners also say the Frontier is now the most reliable mid size. And the Tundra (which is also old school tech) is the the most reliable full size. Just remember, when the Frontier/Tundra where developed they just tried to make a honest truck that was reliable. It was before all the push to try to get petrol engines better MPG's. And the rest of the world knows better. They use diesel instead. I'd consider the Colorado diesel but its pricey, has too complex a emissions Nox sensors and DEF. All that crap will cost Allot to fix out of warranty. And because they make OEMS install all that crap it drives up the cost of the diesel option. Allot.

@@HiPlains1 ancedotal but my gfs frontier felt like the cheapest plastic truck I have ever been in. Hated riding in that car. After a year didn't even have but one button left on in the inside. Terrible clearence, felt like a car with a bed. Just hated it. That being said. Point is All cars break down. I'm sure Nissan has there problems too. Don't have time to search on a car I will never own. My guess is you are cherry picking data or still in the honey moon phase. Either way it would take a whole lot to even look at a Nissan.

I leased a 2017 wt v6 colorado and I think I see ur point of view. As soon as my lease is over I will probably go back to toyota. Planning on getting a Used toyota sedan or used pickup. I like trucks but gas prices are going back up. I live in California nuff said. I'm a bit nervous about owning my leased colorado. I heard some horror stories about chevys. Are chevy vehicles all that bad. Agree, the colorado that I have feels like it's cheaply made. A lot of plastic

Its not a bad truck. But the 8 speed is defective. Just a matter of time it will start these shuddering and torque convertor failing etc.. Junk transmission. IMO, the frontier is better value then Tacoma. Better engine. Tacos have bad MPG's. All the mid size do. But you can save big money buying a Nissan and that will buy allot of gas. And they are the most reliable. There is a reason there sales are way up now. Sell more now then they did 10 years ago. Because its still a great truck and very reliable. Look at the Pro 4X.
