I fell in love with it back in 2011/2012 when Holden first released images of what the VF would like like. 10 years later I finally bought one, only a base so it lacks the body kit and only has the 3.0 V6 but I still love it, and always will. Plus when I'm paying $2.30 a litre for fuel, I'm very happy I ended up going an Evoke 😅

@RS1 I don't get it. I have an SS and have seen G8. SS does look better when you see it up close for a while. Of course, I spent about $800 on black fog light frame, side vents and spoiler.

@RS1 well, nothing is perfect in this world. The Aussies won't something we have and we want something they have. I really do wish Chevy had made some real effort to have this style of car be huge here and keep Holden cranking it out. In my world, cranking out SSs to WISE US buyers should be a far more appealing idea than Hyundai crossovers. The world just doesn't agree and the car gurus in charge have their own thing going. Sad. I have fantasies about the next, improved, 455hp SS, with black package, non-leather (though I like leather I paid for with my SS), plus whatever benefits Aussie version could offer. US is so constipated about 4-dr muscle and the whole "Baby seat in the back seat" terror that it drives me nutso. I haven't felt one ounce of virility or testosterone drop off since going with this 4-dr over Dodge or Corvette! It just makes me sad I can't ever look forward to buying a new one.

You know... I see all of these people on this page complaining about how "bland" and "boring" the SS looks... but the E39 M5 was pretty sedate looking too... it didn't look much different than a regular 5 series... and yet that car never gets called "bland" or "boring" looking. I wasn't all that into how the SS looks at first, but as I've watched videos on it over the last 2 days, it's grown on me more and more... and now I think it's a pretty good looking car. Sure, it's not aggressive, but so what? Who gives a shit? The E39 M5 wasn't aggressive looking either. The important thing is performance. Want an aggressive looking car? Buy a Dodge Charger or a Corvette, or a Camaro, or any of a ton of other cars. Want something with good, yet understated looks, a V8 with plenty of power, RWD, and goes like stink? The Chevy SS is pretty much your only choice other than a new M5 or M6 Gran Coupe, which will run you double (or more) what a Chevy SS costs. The SS is a factory sleeper, which is what BMW's M cars used to be sought after for. I totally agree with what Motor Trend said: "The Chevrolet SS is the spiritual successor to the E39 M5" Currently, my only real problem with the SS is that I can't afford one right now. But if I could, there would totally be a black one with a manual transmission sitting in my driveway right now.

To all the people saying its to bland/boring looking, plain looking cars are always the one the age the best and tend to not look as dated. Take the Cadillac DTS its 20years old but still blends right in with modern car, on the other hand stylized car from the late 90's look out dated like 97 camaro or a PT cruzer they look old as hell now. Some people want a car that doesn't draw attention, i used to get pulled over all the time for doing 5 over the speed limit in a red 90 GTA Trans-Am now i drive a 2004 Buick park ave i blow by cops and haven't been stopped once, its like they don't even bother pointing the radar gun at me because im probably just some grampa.
@eaglefat93987 жыл бұрын
Take the 2001 BMW 528i for example it is by far one of the plainest looking cars every made, very simple lines smooth yet boxy and it still looks good years later and doesn't look out dated or old. now look at a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am it has very flashy attention grabbing lines and a busy design with a lot going on and it clearly looks old and sticks out like a sore thumb next to newer cars. The more aggressive and stylized the car design is the quicker it ages this concept is commonly excepted and thats why luxury cars tend to have simple clean lines because the car companies want there cars to look good 10 years later but sports cars have flashy and busy style that gets attention and gets old looking when the next model comes out so you buy a new one.

@@eaglefat9398not gonna lie man, I was cross shopping a ZL1 5th gen and a 2016 SS manual sedan since they're priced similarly. Frankly, the 2012 Camaro ZL1 had aged much more gracefully than SS sedan. It also has more power and beefier drivetrain which makes it a better candidate for higher horsepowers mods. Sure it's the same zeta platform but it has all the goodies. I believe the SS sedan is aging like an old malibu ss. It's a shame because it had potential to be a real looker. Imagine a Camaro-esque front end. It would have clobbered dodge upside the head with the right design. The sleeper look doesn't appeal to everyone. Funny enough, I had a park Avenue back in the day. It's the car of choice for everyday millionaires. (BS7)

Makes me think of all the people who bitch about the manufactures not making performance cars anymore or that we're going to be taken over by 4 cylinder economy cars. Maybe if those people bought performance cars, the companies would actually continue to make them and we wouldn't see RWD V8's like this die out. No matter who makes it. Support the companies who make fun cars that you like by buying them people!

47K aren't cheap and for those who can afford them they have a different taste on how or what brand to spend 47K price ticket on a car . maybe if this was AWD . it will make it sales spike possible special to those who lives up north or is the car has RWD with equal weight distribution the front end weigh exactly like the rear end
@chevyfan12519927 жыл бұрын
+East17A I don't think any new mid sized or bigger car is cheap lol and unfortunately an AWD configuration would only increase the price. I just say if you have new car money, why be so cheap and be a bean counter about MPG's. Rationing and cost cutting is for people who desperately need it lol Used car purchases don't affect the market as much anyway
@chevyfan12519927 жыл бұрын
Most people just buy economy cars. I had in mind the people who want nothing besides performance cars. Those people will save and prioritize purchasing one. The cost means less to you when it's your passion. People would probably make fun of me for what I paid on my Camaro and Monte Carlo when I could of bought anything else equally reliable for half the price(s). But to me those cars are important and my message here is that if these cars ARE so important to you, make the sacrifice and/or put in the work.

Lol at the "bland styling" comments. People know *something* is up. I can't stop for gas without someone asking me what it is. First week after I bought it my boss asked me what it was because "it looks fast". Perhaps pics don't do it, but in real life this sleeper gets plenty of attention. I got mobbed by car guys at a company function when a spot appeared close to the party and everyone watched me park. Here I thought I was buying a Q-ship, something stealthy to enjoy for myself on twisting back roads... far from it: don't buy one of these if you don't want to talk to people.

The reason GM didn't brought any Commodore or Caprice (the larger cop special) with a V6 Stateside is called U-A-W (or C-A-W if you were North of the Border), as in the Union. While GM was in their prearranged bankruptcy they made an arrangement with the Union to allow GM to import substantial number of cars from other countries as long as it were models with < 100K units produced (keeping their better sold models and the jobs that made them into their American and Canadian factories). The first vehicle that violated this arrangement since was just recently the PRC-made Buick Envision midsize crossover. This arrangement sealed the fate of any increase in Commodore or Caprice imports (I do believe top importing for the Commodore was in the 30K unit range if at that).
@ralphl54417 жыл бұрын
The Commodore was here in V6 version in the G8. That would have been a much better selling car had they not already been having financial issues and shut that line down

I guess what I'm saying is that Chevy isn't thought worse of than Holden. Aussie critics on this very site bash Holden. I get the feeling some SS owners feel pressure of baseless criticism that "no Chevy (short of a Corvette, I presume) is worth $50k." I know there's an argument that a lion thingy looks better than bow tie, but bow tie is such a slice of Americana and it's all over race tracks for over half a century. That's my two cents. To each their own. I like both but too lazy to bother, though some black-out options look interesting sometime down the road - having had it only since 8/24.

After the complaints of guady styling of the ve commodore (pontiac G8) they dialed it back in the hopes of securing sales from bmw. In retrospect they should have just gone all out and styled the most guady over the top classic 4 door muscle car to end all musclecars. The last ford falcon GT was far more adventageous in the styling department than the commie. Ford Australia knew the writing was on the wall, i think however general motors kept Holden in the dark about many things.

Even then, no Mag Ride Control or HUD, weighs 300lbs more and has slightly larger dimensions... and you get all the craftsmanship that Dodge is known for. To be honest, I came real close to getting T/A 392 Go-Green Challenger, though, but only because I've liked Challenger styling since I was a kid in 1971. Test drove both and liked both. SS ride smoother, engine sounded powerful but a bit more to my liking, better visibility, Chally somewhat smaller and a cop magnet. Truth is that if I was independently wealthy, I'd have that green-go T/A 392 parked next to SS in my garage. But I'm not so fortunate.
