The filter is just to prevent to getting something on the tank u can clean up and reuse The real filter u need to replace is the on def pump

I have a 268 and i just checked the filter and it comes out like yours

What about the missing piece of the filter? Should it be a concern that it maybe inside the DEF tank? How would/does that effect the DEF tanks performance? Thank you!

Good question, I ordered a DEF Filter from the Hino Dealer. It was told to me that is all I need.
