Should have loosened the oil cap while draining oil to relieve crank case pressure. Wrench should be a 12mm not 1/2 inch. Only hand tighten oil filter.
@moneymotorcycle51527 жыл бұрын
Chris R good points! Thanks, the oil cap was unscrewed but failed to document in the video. And the filters gonna be a bitch to get off next time I guess but hey, posting these to share in and receive from the wealth of knowledge on here!

I think that the 1/2" that he's referring to is the size of the ratchet wrench not the socket.
@motoryzen6 жыл бұрын
He said " half inch ..ratchet.." not the socket size @4:43. But it is good that you specified the correct size in mm because 1/2 = 12.7. That .7 is enough to be too loose a fit on the drain plug's head and thus a higher risk of rounding it off. I thumbs up'd your comment ftr. Cheers.

Any oil filter should be hand tight only. Next oil change the filter will be very hard to remove. They have a tendency to stick even properly installed.

Hi can you please do a chain tightening video?? Because i can't figure out what tool to use for the left side rear axle nut because its inward...i know i have to hold that while i tighten the right side. I already tightened the chain but can't tighten the axle nut now ...

May i ask, how do you know when it's full? (the 2.9 qts)? Does it start to spill over the top of the hole?
@samspade14187 жыл бұрын
The oil pan screw should use a 12 mm socket, not a 1/2 in. As someone already said, hand tight on the filter is all you need. The Rebel 500 shares the same engine as the CB500 line and there are videos for maintenance on those bikes that may also help any owners of this bike.

Im surprised no one mentioned pre fill the oil filter it is messy being at 90° but is still good practice so the engine does run for 10 or so sec with little to no oil until the filter fills and the over tightening but im about to do an oil change on my gf's at 800 miles
@jasonshortphd3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, hard to do the recording while also doing the work! I put aluminum foil over my headers so that I don’t get any oil on them. And if you pull that little red tab on the drain pan it won’t burp while draining.

Dumb question but did the drain plug have a washer? I don't remember seeing one but found one in my driveway where I was doing the work. I talked to my father-in-law and he said if the oil doesn't start dripping out then it wasn't a 'sealing washer' or w/e he called it.

@GaZBr4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Is it really necessary to warm up before removing the old oil? I understand that it makes the oil thinner, but you'll have to deal with hot motor parts, difficulting the access to the bolt and having the risk to seriously burn yourself.

Do I need new sealing washer or the old one should be okay?
@BaoBao-yu5bu4 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin Han. Yes you must use a new sealing washer. The old one has been crushed at the previous oil service and is no more able to prevent any leakage. There are 2 types of washer: aluminum and copper. In my opinion the best is copper. Copper is more malleable than aluminum and this allows to obtain a perfect joint without being obliged to tighten very hard. The housing of the engine is aluminum and the thread prefers gentle tightening. Please, excuse my English, it's not my native language...

Oil filters are hand tight only. If the filter is over torqued by your technique the rubber gasket will get pinched, rip or deformed and you have metal to metal contact between the oil filter and the oil filter surface of the engine.
@motoryzen6 жыл бұрын
Adding to your point, no only could those things happen, overtightening the oil filter could cause a hole in the gasket,..thus an oil leak from there.
@hoppy857h53 жыл бұрын
I don't even know why I'm watching this 😂 But some tips from a mechanics point if view. Oil cap off and then sump plug out, drains better. Also before you put the oil sump plug back in just pour some clean oil in so the crap gets flushed out ☺ Well you've over tightened the filter. They are only supposed to go on hand tight 😂

@moneymotorcycle51527 жыл бұрын
Hmm yeah mine was in a plastic bag when I took off the seat and flipped it over. I know the technicians use the manual when prepping the bike so they may have forgotten to put it back? I'd contact the dealership, they should have provided you with the owner's manual upon purchase.

How many quarter the oil needed?
@MadMexism6 жыл бұрын
How many quarts in total sir?
@BaoBao-yu5bu4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rene Pena. The user manual recommends 2,7 L for oil service WITH filter replacement. But these 2,7 L don't allow to reach the maxi level, just the lower one on the dipstick (small round window). In order to get the right oil quantity and to reach the upper level you must fill with 2,9 L, that's to say about 3 quarts. Please, excuse my English, it's not my native language...

Only 500 miles and oil change showed ? That's pretty quick
@dylandavis66944 жыл бұрын
Sandro when you purchase a new motorcycle, there's a break in period. During that period, metal flakes from the engine, etc, accumulate in your oil. It's recommended to do a oil change usually around 600miles, so that you can flush all that bad stuff out. Afterwards, you change the oil again in another 2,400 miles, and then every 3-4K miles afterwards.
@papapudding7 жыл бұрын
Sure Honda says you have to do a first oil change at 600 miles but I wonder if it is really necessary, that oil was as clear as new.
@merlineric7 жыл бұрын
The break in oil change is the most important oil change you do on your bike. Your cleaning out metal particles from the break in.
