Awesome review, nice work! You make me even more excited for video games, I really want to play some of the ones you mentioned. I had never even heard of A Hat In Time. And maybe I have to play Cuphead. Anyway I'm SUPER excited for Monster Hunter: World. Bring it on!!

So after watching and seeing your top pick, I thought I'd throw my two cents in for some talking points. Spoilers for those who want the surprise: I'm currently playing through A Hat in Time now since I waited for the PS4 version and wanted to do it after the holiday rush died down to fully enjoy it. I have to agree, it's an absolutely masterful piece of art that I hope gets more notoriety. Wonderful aesthetic, fantastic soundtrack, Hat Kid is adorable, the controls are perfect. Excellent game. That being said.... As much as I'm loving nearly everything, there are some minor problematic parts that stand out. Granted these are likely due to it being such a small project, but it's enough to make mention of. Some of the design choices were poorly implemented, such as the mansion portion being a little too trial-and-error at times and there isn't always a clear indication of what is supposed to be done to proceed. Also some trivial things like the lack of not only facial animations but lip flaps to at least give the impression that someone is talking. I've hit several glitches too, one forcing me to back out of a level and lose progress. Overall a great experience, but it's actually what kept it from my GotY. I have to give it to Mario this year personally. As both a platformer and a love letter to fans, there were points where I actually got choked up on my way to 100%
