My apologies for the pausing while talking. My first time making a video like this and I was a little nervous lol.
Also, when I talked about the locktite, all the fasteners that are apart of the exhaust did NOT have any locktite on the factory fasteners.
Stay tuned and I will upload a video comparing the sound difference between the stock pipes and the Vance and Hines slip-ons.
Here are the part numbers and links to where I purchased the slip ons.
Part# 46861
www.denniskirk...
NOTE: These slip ons will come with the competition baffles which will require the ECM to be tuned. Below are the part number and link to the recommended tune for the baffles.
Part# 66005
www.denniskirk...
If you do not want to tune the ECM, they do offer a quiet baffle which is what I purchased and installed in the pipes. Below are the part number and link for the quiet baffles.
Part# 21899
www.denniskirk...
NOTE: These baffles are sold EACH so make sure that you put 2 in your cart if you want these baffles.
Thank you for watching and if you enjoyed the video and/or it helped with your own install, hit the like button and subscribe for future content.
Be careful and ride safe.

Fantastic step-by-step video! I would probably put some masking tape over the areas of the heat shields that may get scuffed until I'm done with installation

I just used your video as a step-by-step guide to install the V&H 3" Twin Slash Slip-ons. A few tips: 1. Use masking tape or some of the sticky protective foam that comes with the mufflers to protect the areas that may be scoffed during installation, such as putting in the shield bands. 2. The front muffler is little harder to remove than the rear due to its limited "wiggle room". A bit of lubricant, such as Liquid Wrench, helps. Just make sure to wipe everything clean and clean off any residue. 3. Line up your bolts on a magnetic tray as you remove them so you can put them back in order. 4. The wide holding bands may not move much once you put them on the new mufflers, and may not end up in the right spot. This may be due to new mufflers being wide at the joining portion. To place the nuts in the right position, tighten the bands after slipping the mufflers on and loosen them again. This will cause the new mufflers to "crimp" on thus allowing the bands to move freely. 5. Assemble everything snug but not tight. Once everything is where it’s supposed to be, align and tighten as needed. My instructions called for a ¼” “cuff” to show in the back past the heat shields. Great video!

I just put the chrome version on my 2017 1200T superlow. The video was very helpful. One point, I had some trouble transferring the stock muffler clamps to the new mufflers. They didn't just slip on as shown in the video. You need to mess with the little clamp shoe which tries to interfere with the clamp sliding on, especially if the shoe is near the expansion slots cut in the mufflers. Position the clamps away from those slots. These slipons on the 1200T are very loud compared to stock, but are just what I was looking for. Hope I don't get pulled over. High of 92 db on phone app at idle. Cheers

Those muffler clamps according to the shop manual is for one time use only. HD does not recommend reuse of their OEM exhaust clamps. There's a reason. The clamp is designed to work with a center spacer that slides on splines, and in a very shor time, the spacer seizes on those splines, and retightening can result in a faulty seal, due to the clamp nut feeling tight, but the center spacer not making full contact. I fused around with it and noticed an exhaust leak in the clamp area after installing. So what I did was punch the bolt out with the splines, and used a grinder to smooth away the splines so the bolt won’t bind into the spacer anymore causing a false sense of tightness. This seemed to work out fine. No more exhaust leaks at the clamps. Or just buy new clamps which are $7 each, but it was unnecessary because of the modification I made on the original clamps. Just FYI.

I can’t get my band clamps over the new pipes. Yours seemed to go pretty easy. Got any idea what I could try doing?
@Lugare2011
@Lugare2011 3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Sorry about this issue it can be difficult sometimes. One thing to try is loosen the bolt some more and then pry the clamp to spread it open some more. Now the tricky part is that piece where the bolt goes through, can’t think of what to call it lol, start the clamp that’s opposite of that piece on the pipe and then try to get that piece started on the pipe. Once it’s on you might need to use a hammer to get it on the pipe further. It can be on the tight side so you might have to coax it on with some force just be careful not to bend or crimp the pipe. I hope this helps and any further question just ask. Good luck.

Howdy and thanks. I apologize for the lack of socket sizes in the video. Just an oversight on my part. The sizes are as follows... **Band clamp nut is a 9/16" socket. **Mounting bolts are all 1/2" socket. **Wormgear clamps for heat shields are 5/16" socket. Hope this helps out and thanks again for the comment :)

No gaskets?
@Lugare2011
@Lugare2011 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. It's a slip fit between the mufflers and head pipe. The fit is tight enough to seal so no exhaust leakage. This is the US version, not sure if other countries have a different type of fitment.

Purchased my first bike - 2018 883 iron and want to change my exhaust off-the-bat. Harley told me that I should go through a stage 1 (exhaust, air filter, dyno) but my friends believe that you don't need to change air filter and do dyno if the exhaust are just slip-ons. Can anyone confirm/comment on that? All of my friends are sport bike owners so looking for 883 owners help on this. Thanks in advance!

@Lugare2011
@Lugare2011 5 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Your friends are correct to a point. If the slip ons have no baffle or have a competition baffle, it is recommended to install a tune on the bike. If neither then you're fine. Also, if you install slip ons with a new head pipe, you will need a tune as well. Some dealers will say that once you break the seal at the head pipe, the warranty is now void so make sure to check with dealer, if you want to keep the warranty. Congrats on the bike :)

Thank you for the question. No the Vance & Hines do not come with clamps. You'll have to use the clamps on the stock mufflers.

I bet you could have done this in half the time if you didn't have to stop, move the camera and explain things. So with that in mind I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this!
@Lugare2011
@Lugare2011 4 жыл бұрын
I thank you and you're welcome. Yes, it would have taken less then half the time but being a certified trainer I'm used to taking time and showing as much detail as possible to help with the job. Those who I was mostly targeting were those who've never done something like this but couldn't afford to pay the high cost of a dealer install. This also led me to try and show as much detail as I could. I figured if I could show the easy side of an install like this, after watching my video it would give them the confidence to perform the install themselves. Thanks for watching and stay vigilant.
