2017 KTM 390 Duke / RC390 How To Modify Stock Exhaust On the CHEAP!

In this video I do a how to modify your stock exhaust on the 2017 KTM 390 duke by simply using a $10 one and a half inch whole saw drill bit and it makes the exhaust sound way better best $10 I’ve ever spent with this video helps you now I did not come up with this lane Gordon actually shared it and then I just got a little how to because I was doing it anyways good luck!

I'm doing this to my RC390 on Tuesday, when my 1 11/16 saw arrives. Hopefully can snag bd killer w/ grabber. Hip to the motor oil but thanks for the wheel cover! Sounds much better and saves big slip on $. 😊 👍

Amazing idea!! Sounds SO much better, and no doubt breathes easier now too. Way cheaper than buying a KTM sourced Akrapovič slip-on too, and although it doesn't look as nice as an Akrapovič, I'll bet it sounds as good now and breathes as well too. When I get my 2017 390 Duke this will be my first mod. Second mod is a tail tidy. Third mod... can you get a K&N filter drop in for this model yet? If so, I'll have to do that too...

No drill, gas welding, don't use electric weld it will destroy it

After u drill it and the baffle falls you just unbolt the muffler and take the baffle out the bottom, I do talk about it in the video also.

Knowlege...... he was running the holesaw way to fast. They should not about 350 rpm and they wont burn up and cut better. That means, u need a variable speed drill motor.

I just watched the video and was going to suggest it. Searched first to see if there is already a comment and found yours. Sure, Absolutely, yes. It could have been a more cleaner job and saved all the huffin and puffin and the baffle too. Its just a few rivets, drill it out and tap gently with blow hammer to remove the cover. The baffle and inner core slides out just easily. Use stainless rivets and rivet it back. This type of work is done all the time to rewrap the muffler core with core wool.

It was a kobalt, but if you take the exhaust off and put the pipe end on the ground and drill it that way it will work better because you can push alot harder on it and its also solid on the ground it will cut better I think some of these have thicker walls bc a friend has a hard time with his and thats what we did and you need a drill with alot of power too

Would be easier to plug a slip-on exhaust plus it would make better sound . I have 2018 model and I’m going to put Leo Vince decat + gpr slip on to make it full system without the catalytic converter, and that sounds beast

Do not debaffle the exhaust. It reduces the back pressure to the engine, thus reducing bike's top end and damaging the engine exhaust valves in the long run. Also, this will kill your bike' warranty.

Siddharth Yadav Does adding a slip on damage the exhaust valves, does adding a slip on kill your warranty? I spoke to dealer with the bike there for its 600 mile service and he plainly stated that “ Removing the baffle Or adding a slip on exhaust will Not void or mess with your warranty UNLESS you remove the catalytic converter.

Will it lower back pressure probably a little if at all but my guess is no with a catalytic converter and muffler restricting the back pressure already pulling out the DB will have very little effort on it. Also Any exhaust mod will require aftermarket ecu or fuel controller. So a lot of people who swap out the original exhaust with a aftermarket exhaust will probably do more harm then drilling out the DB on the stock exhaust.

easier air flow will just make the bike run much leaner in low rpms, and pick up will significantly drop unless you remap your ecu

I do not recommend this mod! I urge one to do it correctly by drilling out rivets, remove baffle/DB killer, reassemble, replace and install stainless steel rivets (purchases at Ace Hardware). Although it takes longer it’s the way to go. It was done on an Akrapovič Titanium Silencer.

You shouldn’t urge anyone to do what you are saying to their stock muffler. You can’t use the word “correctly” when talking about modifying the original condition of a product, one way or another. The Akropovic muffler is completely different. The stock muffler’s baffle is a part of the end cap and can not be separated from each other unless you go the hole-saw route. Take a look and you’ll see that drilling out the rivets will also require you to destroy the rubber sealant between the end cap and the can body. So DO NOT do any of that if you want to still be able to use the stock muffler.
