Excellent footage of an excellent exhibition of some truly excellent layouts. Did I mention that I thought it was excellent? Well done everybody concerned. Shows like this keep reminding me of how much I've loved this hobby for over 50 years!

Loved the Czech-Polish (Hungarian: the Nohab?) cross-border layout around 31:35. Great to see Central European locos in action. Seeing Ian Futers' Lochty Lane also brought back memories of when he invited me round the back of the same one Saturday morning at the SECC. Tried to convert me to 0 gauge but I'm sticking with N/H0/T for now. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the kind words. A lot is in post production, there's some great editing tools available for modest cost these days, especially to remove camera shake - essential for when my back starts to play up after a long day...

My goodness that was quite a size of an exhibition! Well done catching it so well. Once again I am delighted with the detail involved. I can only guess that model railways is one of the most popular hobbies around. I have been showing people my little (5 minutes I think) video of the Perth exhibition a few weeks ago. The thumbnail is little wigwams with a bit of track in the corner if you want to see it.

Hi Terry. Yes, I'll look that up. We see to do very well here, both the Nottingham and Derby exhibitions are huge, and get better each year (and since I live between the two its easy to attend).

No Problem. I try to add a title shot for each layout, but its not always possible when things are crowded or there isn't a suitable banner. If I missed yours then I can only apologise.

It seems like almost everyone is using Kay-Dee (Magne-Matic) Couplers now in the UK. (At least on the B-end of the locomotives). Surprised it took so long. Canada and the USA have used them since the 1960's

You're welcome. The Nottingham show is always a good one, watch out for Derby, Loughborough GCR, Derby and Wirksworth shows this year as well - if I can get I'll be videoing those as well.

Why didn't British steam locomotives have headlights?
@martinedwards9995 жыл бұрын
There's actually many reasons - I believe the three most compelling ones are: 1) In Britain most railways have always been fenced off from the public, and only crossed at designated road and rail crossings. Therefore, there is less need for a train to be visible from the track-side at night than in some other countries with less guarded lines. 2) From the early days of railways, lines in the UK have tended to be fully signalled. Thus there is less need for drivers to rely on the headlights of another train as warning, as the signalling should mean that collisions are less likely. 3) British trains of this era carried a head code consisting of a pattern of white discs that indicated the type of service (express, good train etc) At night these were enhanced with white lamps. A headlight would make these unreadable. This is all from memory - please feel free to contradict me.

I am interested in the model of the "Forth Bridge". What scale/gauge is it?
@martinedwards9996 жыл бұрын
It's 'T' gauge, or 1:450! See more at www.tgauge.com/. Ther's lots of coverage online for this layout, just google for it. Here's an example - www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5295920.

Lochty Lane, was by far the best overall layout for this video, prototypical in pace, authenticity and attention to detail. The van needed weathering, and the bus was far to long at that stop 😉

Glad you enjoyed it! Nice to see the attention to detail in some of these layouts, even those of modest size.
