Sohyang is a gospel singer, but because gospel music is such a small niche in Korea there wasn't anyone who knew about her until she appeared on immortal songs. She is well-known and respected as a top vocalist now due to her appearances on popular singing competitions on television, but she was never in mainstream music.

bronzenrule No, I know that she’s a gospel singer and that she broke out from nothing after singing the National Anthem at a US basketball game and then further got her name out through Immortal Songs. I don’t need to be told about her singing career because I’ve researched it myself after finding out about her because she’s insanely talented. I was just saying that considering her skill, I’d like to think that she should be way more famous in Korea than she currently is.

Not sure what the exact situation is but she does appear awfully underappreciated from an outsider's perspective If they want to they could promote her in so many ways considering her skill level and at the end of the day her making it big would not only benefit the Korean music industry esp. on the international stage but could possibly become a symbol of pride for the country as a whole What bugs me more is how big channels like MBC, KBS keep messing with reactors on copyright grounds. Seriously since they aren't willing to do it themselves the least they could do is allow others to promote her for free....duh No offense to anyone, I'm just venting out of love ;)

Glad she's being more recognized and rewarded over the years! Her talent and humility is top class. Not sure but maybe the recent MBC-KBS labour strike could have affected the quality of the award show??? MBC and KBS are still recovering from the strike which lasted for about 71 days.....so perhaps the planning for the award show was rushed and not properly executed??? just my 2-cent thought......

I dont think it was her first time at such a big event. She performed at the FINA World CHampionship in front of MIllions of people and she performed the American and Korean National anthem multiple times. But maybe she was just more nervous today than at one of the other big events :)

HappyV Pamy Sohyang is originally a CCM singer, meaning that her songs are all Gospel(Christian) songs. Since this award is big and may have different opinions, I think she just chose this song.

according to many comments, the sound equipment is awful. Another reason is that her health is quite bad now. She still has to take pills for her cancer and is also diagnosed with pneumonia now. Sohyang once said she can't even sing a song entirely now :(

She doesnt have pneumonia right now. She said at her christmas concert that she had pneumonia 3 times in 2016 and early 2017 but right now she is feeling well. I also didnt hear her saying that she cant sing a song entirely which would also be a bit contradicting since she had alot of concerts this year where she was performing 7 seven songs straight including very vocally demanding ones like Lean On Me. Her health is fragile indeed but right now she is being healthy. The sound equipment was quite bad indeed.

Yep. Our voice is not the same quality every day. Especially when moving around and performing constantly, even Sohyang's remarkable stamina can be weakened. But don't worry, on a good day she can still nail it. I think we're lucky to see these performances. Usually artists' production companies try to mask them, and an unrealistic expectation is made in the minds of fans and aspiring singers. Even the best singers in the world aren't always 100%.
