2017 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, Taiwan

11 February 2017 - Having booked a last-minute trip to Taiwan, after Chinese New Year, I had no idea that some celebrations were still ongoing. I found out about the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival (平溪天燈) during my first couple days in Taipei, and thought it would be fun to attend. As I was staying in Jiufen, I took a local bus to Riufang and from there, there were many shuttle buses to Pingxi.
There were lots of vendors selling food, souvenirs, and lanterns along the train tracks, and visitors decorated the lanterns by writing their wishes on them before sending them into the air. At night, there was numerous mass releases of lanterns at a square, which is what you see in the video. Please note that the original audio is not used, but you can appreciate the lanterns going off into the night sky just the same!
