STRONGER I (MADELEINE) is the first film in a series of short films by thirteensquared that celebrates the individuality and the passion of people who have faced difficult and challenging situations and emerged stronger as a result. This film shows Madeleine’s strength, humanity, compassion and willingness to forgive the two men who raped her when she was thirteen. She says “Love will always win over hate” and this short film is testament to that.
In Madeleine’s own words:
“If anyone had told me a few years ago that one day I would be giving radio and TV interviews, speaking publicly or writing a book; I would never have believed them. But after sharing my story publicly for the first time in September 2014 I realised that my voice and words are now my strength and I will continue to speak out against sexual violence for all those who can’t find their voice yet.
I want people to know that they are not what happened to them, that its never too late to get support and that they can heal from sexual violence and transform their pain into something positive.
My aim is that by sharing my story it inspires hope for other people to understand that if we choose to we can get past anything in life. After all it’s not what happens to us that is important but what we do with it.”

A very worthwhile story. Something similar happened to me when I was slightly older. I was accosted by a Professional, who held me hostage overnight. No-one believed a teenage girl, and I did not have the confidence to challenge the behaviour if my family thought I was lying. It was only in later years they believed me, and understood my pain. Thank you for sharing.

What a powerful video, thank you for being so brave as to share your story with all of us. It is only through sharing experiences that we can get more people talking about abuse, how to prevent it, what signs to look for, and I totally agree with you - children aren't born abusers... We need to do so much more to make society safer for our children. The statistics of abuse around the world are staggering - according to ISPCAN around 40% of children are abused in some form.

Love how you let love in, how you are married, have a family you didn't let anything break you or define you. This is an amazing video about resilience and the human spirit. I'm honored to have seen this and that you shared your personal story with us. Amazing!!

what a great video. Amazing lady to share her story. What's scary is that this was in the 1970's where porn etc was not as readily available compared to now. This is scary. Amazing, amazing thank you for sharing.

Thank you Lorna, but unfortunately i don't think we have any less sexual violence today than we did in the 1970's :(
