I don't listen to those people I know what I'm doing when I use wrench and know when to stop tightening. Good luck on your first oil change and be careful, safety is number one priority. By the way, you could always try using your hand first, see how far you can tighten.

Costco wants $30 for 2 bottles (2 oil change worths) of full synthetic oil. With the oil being $15 and the filter being a few dollars more, why do shops want $80-$90 for full synthetic oil changes!?

Cause they're trying to make money and people who does it themselves are trying to save money.

Those prices are gone now. I buy the 12-quart box oil for $50 I can get two truck or work van oil changes out of it and people are happy to pay $75-80 for me to come do it.

Never put a wrench on a filter to tighten it. Been doing it 40 years and never had one come loose or leak. But I've had them overtightened.

Never , Never use a wrench to tighten oil filter “ Bud , just letting you know. Always tighten the oil filter with your hand. Giving you some good advice. Peace ✌️

Wrench isn't recommended in the Automotive Society because some people would probably over tighten. I carefully watch the turn on the filter when I tighten it. I usually mark the filter with a marker once the base of the filter touch the engine, so I know how far the turn is. Don't remember if I did that in this video or not.

If you knew the liters of your engine(1.8), there's an easier way to measure your oil. 🤦

Easy way is subjective. I prefer checking oil the dipstick way.

You didn’t need an oil plug drain gasket? I noticed your car didn’t have one on?

It's not my car. I did this video a while back and from what I remember there was no gasket, so I just put it back on without a gasket. If remember correctly it seems like a gasket was built into as part of the plug.

The metal washer was stuck to the pan. It can be reused as he did. The spin on filter should only be hand tightened. Do not use wrench on it. Watch a Toyota mechanic do it.

I can't speak for other cars, but on this car there was no stuck washer. If you understand the concept you would understand why hand tighten is recommended for spin on filter. I know how far to turn and when to stop turning, so I can use either hands or tools.

By the way I never reused a washer when there was no washer to begin with.

Depend how tight it's on and how strong you are. I usually always use oil filter wrench.

My 2017 toyota corolla takes synthetic oil and needs to be changed every 10,000 miles. Filter change every 20,000 miles.

I work on a lot of cars and I make a lot of videos, so I wouldn't remember what oil I use. Look on the oil cap if you want to know what oil you need.

Next time please get a oil filter from Toyota dealership. They are cheap and good quality. Only a few dollars. Great video. Take care!
