How stunningly appropriate now, in 2024, this video is...Mr. Dyda was a colleague of my mother's in the founding of RPV. They knew of the slide zone then, and supported the moratorium on building within the zone. Sadly, that moratorium was dismissed, and the result now is national news.

If the newly discovered slip plane is 300' deep and the known one was 150; deep not sure if humans can change the outcome. Maybe not with the new way the earth is working.

Nice informative video Ken. As a resident of RPV am glad I don't live in the slide area.

Shouldn't have built the neighborhoods there. Turn off all services. Everyone evacuate. Close the roads. No govt bailout.

YET, like elitist dummies, they kept building and buying on a shifting cliff! What did they think was going to happen?

Used to drive up there on the wild, uneven road in high school 50+ years ago. No stopping geologic time.

This area has been sliding for a lot longer than a few decades. Why people have insisted on building on it sheer hubris, or ignorance, or greed. How much proof do you need?

2024 and residents are being evacuated. The millions they poured into that area wasn't a fix. I can see why people would want to live in such a place, high above the ocean. but maybe stick to campers and tents you can take with you when you have to migrate.

It should have been the nicest trailer park in the country from the get-go. Now it’s mobile homes but with foundations instead of wheels.

Hmm, the years in between this message here and our current happenings have been six more years for Jupiter, sky king, and his brother Neptune, water king, to laugh along with your theme music. And the future, sadly, will be more 'down to the sea'.

Someone was making a lot of money from this ….. the land should have been deemed unbuildable end of story!

Have you looked into the huge underground water source by Malaga Cove shopping center?
@Hammett17514 күн бұрын
I moved from Malaga Cove last year and the garages of several condo buildings had standing water. Do you know anything further about it?
@Zeitwave14 күн бұрын
@@Hammett175 Not really, but there is constant water flow from a drainage pipe under the Arch at MC, for 12 months now, leads me to believe there is some sort of water reserve/spring coming from the hill. Don’t really think this issue is limited to PB, more areas to follow perhaps. Love the area.

Area is moving a foot a week. Gas has been shutdown.

There are parts of the peninsula that have no record of slope movement; however, most of California shoreline is subject to erosion of some sort. Depends on risk tolerance

It’s great. You should move there immediately!

Why don't they build an elevated bridge from one stable point above the slide to another stable point? Should cost less than the millions they spend every year rebuilding. Unless someone is benefiting from the constant up keep:)
@MarkMoanialaАй бұрын
Spanning the PB slide area would only solve the arterial road problem, it would do little for the home owners. Plus, the open span of that bridge (with NO mid-span supports) would be over a mile!
