Ive watched a few of these..indoor, outdoor, carpet, pavement & dirt....it seems if you are in first position at start of race you are pretty much a lock to win UNLESS you screw up. Its pretty much a race between 1st and 2nd everytime...ive watched about 10 so far and seen only one legit 2nd to 1st pass. The vehicles seem to be EXACTLY equally matched in power so there isnt any real mixing it up unless someone screws up. They dont pass with speed..they pass with someone screwing up.

It's not that simple. This guy just happened to make a nearly perfect run. More often than not people crash into each other, or into barriers, or flip their car, or take a turn too wide, etc. It is actually pretty rare for the starting order to be the same as the finish order. What happens when they start from the same lane is you just get a massive tangled pile-up as soon as the race starts, and the marshals have to go un-tangle the pile and flip cars back over, and then the advantage goes to whoever the marshals get to first. So they start them staggered like this to prevent that. And they don't win based on who crosses the line first. They are racing against the clock. Whoever turns in the best overall time is the winner. So even if a person finishes the race third, they might be the winner just because their overall time was the fastest.

It is just a way to make track maintenance affordable so that they can actually keep the track open and keep people racing. Dirt tracks are prohibitively expensive for most shops to operate. And the category is defined by the vehicles, not the track itself. The vehicles are offroad vehicles. Even if that was just an oval track in a parking lot, if all the cars are off road buggies, then it is classified as off road.
