Start value often determines the outcome. When Ms.Biles’ does a vault that is more difficult and no other competitors choice is within a point of her attempt, each deduction of pt 10 or even 1 pt means others must be perfect to equal her efforts. Without this variance, most would do the most simple, proven vaults without pushing the sport forward. So Ms.Murakami started with a vault value of 14 while Ms.Biles start value was 15. For the sit down Ms.Biles deduct was 1 full point. If Ms.Murakami’s vault were perfect their scores would have been tied. However Ms.Murikami was not perfect.

What drama has this AA final unveiled?? I honestly think Biles won fair and square (though she isn't my fav), she was deducted appropriately. But the fact that she competes in a life or death situation, says a lot about her character and contribution to this sport. In the other hand, MAI MURAKAMI! Congrats! You have been rising in this sport !! It's unbelievable you finally have a silver medal at the world championships when you just missed out last year by a fraction, and so has Nina! Wow. @stonew19276 жыл бұрын
I don't think her technique is unmatched. She rarely points her toes, for example. And she has bobbles just like all the other gymnasts. It's her level of difficulty that gets her the wins, even with subpar performances.
@perryproductions44226 жыл бұрын
@@stonew1927 form and skill execution are totally different. Nicki River is talking about the SKILLS peformed well, not necessarily her toes always being pointed. for example, landing with your chest down on a full-in is a deduction. These girls have 4 and 5 tumbling passes and a lot of these girls land them chest down, Simone does not...that adds up, a lot
@marythiccmas6 жыл бұрын
@@stonew1927 Simone actually rarely DOESN'T point her toes. She only ever seems to struggle with toe point at times on UB and with her switch leaps/tour jetes. And besides, technique is more than just toe point and bobbles on the landing. There's form in the air where she absolutely is unmatched. She also doesn't have to pike down for her landings on laid out skills either, and always lands with her chest up. She avoids all of the biggest deductions you can get for skills and most of the little ones, which, paired with her incredible difficulty, is why she can afford a fall and still have an 8 in execution on vault and a 7 in execution on beam.
@prayforisu6 жыл бұрын
While I do think that Simone deserved to win however I'm quite concerned about how dominant Simone is compared to other gymnasts... Like she beat Mai by 1.693 even with two falls and that gap is still huge but yeah I do appreciate her longevity.
@StitchGV6 жыл бұрын
Pray For ISU if more gymnasts were as good as her, they would probably create an entirely separate league for her skill level, but then that would mean the more advanced league would be the new standard for championships and the Olympics, and it would be unfair for people in Morgan and Mai’s league to compete with them... Making Simone’s league the new “elite” and putting all the other current competitors in an obscure less-interesting league somewhere between elite and senior. So her margin of skill level might not exactly be fair for competition, but there’s really no way to separate her without either banning her from competing, or disqualifying everyone else. And both of those are EVEN MORE unfair than her just being the best in the world for the next 5 years or so.

Now, the same thing happened except Simone fell twice. Yeah, Biles has to be overscored. Come on! Two falls and she still gets gold? I the mens competition if they stumbled on pbars or touched the floor on hbar they were out! How come in the womens when anyone else falls on beam its bye bye medal but Biles falls twice on beam and vault which is one of her best apparatus and still gets gold? Ok, she has crazy high difficulty, but still, on the mens side for example, routines that could've had 14s or 14,3 were getting 13,6 cuz of execution and others that fell we're gwtting 12s and 11s. She's good, but I think 2 falls is a bit of a slap to the face of other gymnasts like Mai Murakami that executed everything perfectly and held her nerve throughout the comp.
@shakiraaliyah16416 жыл бұрын
Milla Cabral I think It’s because she has a higher difficulty value and I don’t think she was overscored. She normally gets around a 8.0+ execution on beam but in the competition she had a 7.0+ and on vault she usually gets a 9.0+ execution but in the competition she got a 8.0+ I don’t think she was overscored because if she had a clean routine on beam she would’ve gotten her normal execution score which is a 8.0+ And if Biles did her vault cleanly she would’ve had a possibility of scoring a 15.5+ and in the competition she scored a 14.533 Now I do feel bad for Murakami because she had flawless execution and got 2nd but sadly that’s how the sport works. If you have bad execution but have crazy high difficulty (like Simone), it’s still going to be a good score. I feel like MAG or the men’s artistic gymnastics competitions are judged differently. I don’t know if that’s true because I’m not a judge but I think there’s a different deduction panel. But if I get more information about that I will tell you. But I think in the men’s side the deduction panel is being really strict. Since last year all of the judges are being really strict. So that’s probably a reason for the men’s side. But overall I’m very happy for all the medalist especially for Murakami. She wasn’t even planning or expecting on winning a medal. She was only focused to be clean. Literally when Murakami hugged her mom in the livestram I started to tear up 😢

Dirk yes, other influences determine our world view of who warrants certain labeling.I’m not even sure I approve of characterizing athletes by their looks or style or grace. 5hrs a day in a gym seems to warrant more apt word choices. However, if humans continue to assess women by looks, just one word would have changed my view of the narrative. Not one word about style, beauty etc seems deliberate. Thank you all for joining the conversation, makes commenting into cyberspace viable.I’ve had my say, so will leave the topic in the review of past and future reviews of sport.

Not going to lie, I think Biles is amazing and I really wanted her to win gold here, which she did. But she did NOT deserve that gold. This CoP is actually ridiculous for letting her win with two falls. Don't @ me, but Mai deserved to win.
@karmicobsession16366 жыл бұрын
Leander Hartley yea, no. Its not just about landing things. Its about exectuion and difficulty. If everyone comes with the difficulty then Simone can’t loose full points on routines and still manage to win by over a full point. Its not the rules that need to change its the gymnasts. If they don’t want to or can’t train harder tricks, or manage to perfect their execution on the elements they can do, then they will continue to loose.
@leanderhartley49876 жыл бұрын
@@karmicobsession1636 I disagree, just think about it. Putting aside the obvious difficulty of her moves, she fell twice, and still somehow managed to get gold. That's ridiculous, no matter how good she is.
@karmicobsession16366 жыл бұрын
Leander Hartley she lost full points both times she fell. Thats huge. And again I stress this sports about execution. If she couldn’t execute her difficulty wouldn’t mean much. The rest need to step it up, Simone doesn’t need to bring herself down so its “fair” as thats not really fair.
@karmicobsession16366 жыл бұрын
Leander Hartley I also didn’t realize you commented on another thread lol i didn’t look at the name when I replied.

@@karmicobsession1636 That is just for this CoP, it is not the entire sport. She didn't execute that well, she fell twice, yet somehow got gold. I wanted her to win, but Murakami should have won instead. No point in consistently responding because my response is going to be the same lmao, you're not changing any opinions here.

And yet again.. Biles overscored
@yevvi48886 жыл бұрын
I dont think she was overscored at all... But gymnasts like Melnikova are actually Very undescored on Beam for example.
@shakiraaliyah16416 жыл бұрын
melvin lenn how was she overscored? Her normal execution on beam is a 8.0+ but she got a 7.0+ and on vault she normally gets a 9.0+ but she only got a 8.0+, that’s a total downgrade. Plus she has a higher difficulty value than the other girls so she’s got an advantage. Execution isn’t the only thing that matters you know.

No. the joke is that she is taking the risk of a higher level of difficulty. The other ladies wont do that. Now lets see if she decided to lower her standards of skill to everyone else's, then she would blow them away and where is the fun in that? She is increasing her skill level and no one has yet to step up. Not overscored......overSKILLED!!!! Its a point system based on diffifculty level and no one else is ready to go there with her. These girls work hard, ALL of them and they know what they can and can not do...and apparently they can not do what she does. But that's what happens when you work hard to be the best and others don't want YOU to be the best. Sorry guys, right now she is the best.

You open yourself up to ridicule when you make foolish comments like this. I mean, this demonstrates such an ignorance of how gymnastics is actually scored, it's embarrassing. Please read the gymnastics CoP.

A disgrace you've watched gymnastics for that long, and don't update yourself on how the CoP is evolving :) Don't act like you're suprised, I mean come on, we all know SImone's off the charts when it comes to difficulty. And every commentators saying over and over again "she could fall three times and still win!" should have warned you about this being a possible plot.

Just wait until Biles retires. Hopefully it will be after 2020. I hate to watch her, and her ub routine is just awefull. Crow toes all the way. Plus 2 falls on the other apparatus. Yet she manages to win. Then people saying she's not over scored. Y'all bias.
@ju9741006 жыл бұрын
@@lokibae2448 Using the word "I hate' and accusing people of being biased is kind of ironic. We all use the CoP to explain why she still won, you base your analisis on your own opinion. You're biased. Toes not pointed is certainly something she's deducted for, but why only highlighting her errors when you can also pointing out that she always has her legs glued together (in tucked or layed out positions), or perfect form in the air (except on her Moors where she pikes it by the end of it) ? Yeah. Biased. You hate to watch her, i get it. But if you gotta criticize her gymnastics, do it in a constructive way adding all the components to the equation. She's not overscored. She's had execution scores one point lower than usual with those falls, so her scores make sense. Read the CoP. It's on the internet. Plus, she's doing gymnastics for herself, not to entertain people. So whether you like it or not, she's winning. It's a sport not a reality TV show. Period.

@@ju974100 Like i said, I only hope she will retire in 2020 so we can actually get some excitement back into the sport. And I truly hate to watch her. I didn't say I hate her. Heck i don't even know her. I didnt say anything else because her toes pop out. I have nothing to say about anything else period. To me there is nothing good to say. I will wait till she's done.

I told you that coach of Biles is full of shit she could've just done a Cheng and been fine but this coach pushes her too far an s it's gonna cause her to get injured or burn out just like I just saw. Honestly she shouldn't have won. 2 falls! Another Vanessa Ferrari episode in 2006
@marythiccmas6 жыл бұрын
Simone pushes herself. If she didn't, she'd grow bored of the sport and leave as she has nothing more to prove to anyone else but herself. The falls were an anomaly, especially on vault. She said in interviews that she was trying to stick it and went for a less powerful block. Lesson learned. Quite frankly, it was a bad judgement call on her end than on her coach's. He's the one who told her to go with the Cheng today in EFs to play it safe since she wouldn't get a one touch, and that was just the right call.
