Great video. I have 9000 miles on my 2016 XR. I love it. Canyons, cruising, urban - I love it! No mechanical problems. It did buzz in the beginning, but no more. I did get the warranty repair grommets on the handlebars, others did weighted bar end. I am taller, 6'3", it is a big bike, I can see it being a problem for riders with legs not so long! I still have a big smile on it every time I get on it! I don't have any problem with wind on this one, even faster than legal limits, but I leave it down all of the time. Handling is spectacular. Not as quick as my GSXR 1000, but I have never wanted more on the road. Breaks are awesome! Up and down blippers are flawless! Electronics are fabulous! If you are touring up long straight highways, it may not be for you. It is light and not a lot of fun on long slogging drives up the freeway, but I avoid these all I can - get a Gold Wing, Electra Glide or K1600 if that is what you are looking for. This bike (and I) love to turn. If you like taking the back roads, this is a great bike!! If you are considering any off road, get the GS instead.

Interesting comment, I agree with your take on things, I tried out the XR and loved it immediately, I'm a GS Adventure rider and love that also, in the days before my wife had kids and stopped riding I had a few gold wings, so I decided fck it, I'm having the XR for the thrills, a new GS1250 because no one should live life without a GS in their garage, and now the kids are older the Mrs decided she'd like to ride again so I finished things off with a beautiful K1600 GTLE (with arm rests🙄) my stable is full, roll on summer

I have watched loads of reviews on the BMW S1000 XR and have come to the conclusion that not many reviewers seem to take reliability into account because they don't buy the bikes with their own money and have to live with them. When it comes to the real world and BMW Reliability no one seems to want to talk about it ???,maybe because 40% of bikes sold suffer a major failure before they are two years old. Some people buy bikes off these reviews and pay a heavy price if they buy them used with little or no warranty so be very careful and do your homework and check facts---ride safe

@agisler875 жыл бұрын
@@M4rkmcc21 no I don't REALLY want it because it doesn't have all the tech. The XR current revision is over 4 years old and all it's competitors have updated their comparable model. Buying a $22k+ bike that lacks modern features I think is an acceptable requirement.
@M4rkmcc215 жыл бұрын
@@agisler87 are these 22k plus?! I just the current one has all the tech it's just not portrayed in a fancy dash like a colour tft dash. Still has the tech. A fancy cluttered dash for a motorbike isn't the way forward in my eyes. I like it simple less distractions.
@agisler875 жыл бұрын
@@M4rkmcc21 I had to just check the pricing. The base price is 17k but it's 2500 to get the tech. So after taxes etc it's a little over 20k. So I was a little high. I keep my vehicles for a long time and for my second bike I have high expectations (maybe too high). I agree with you the tech can be a big distraction, costs more to repair. But I work in the tech world and fussing over the little details is something I can't resist. Each to their own I guess.

IMHO - This bike is more 'Sport' than 'Touring'. Better Touring ability is available in the BMW R1200RT or the K1600 GT/GTL. But if you like to 'hang off' in the corners, this is a great bike. Good thing though is that BMW Boxer Twins in general are all very good handling bikes and you can go 'Sport' on any of them if you want. Great video. Thanks!
@STOPsignforRT6 жыл бұрын
For me, the RT inspires confidence and the feeling that no matter what mistakes I may make while riding, the bike will compensate with it's brilliant chassis and suspension. BMW knows how to make good handling bikes, whether for Sport or Touring.
@Texarmageddon6 жыл бұрын
Well to be fair... BMW clearly lists this bike as an Adventure sports bike with a blend of all three aspects.. The R1200RS is listed as their sport touring bike.. R1200RT and K1600 aren't even marketed as Sport touring bikes anymore.. They are downright marketed as just touring bikes. Not telling you what you should buy by no means, but I think it's time to realize the category of what we call sport touring has long since changed. RT and K series along with the FJR/GTR1400 or C14 just don't fit the bill anymore for the sport touring segment.

Torn between the S1000XR and GSA. Really want something comfortable when riding two-up, yet still fast. I test rode an S1000XR and didn't 'love' the throttle but found the seat far more comfortable than the R9T. The ride-by-wire felt odd, compared to my bike's mechanical throttle. It accelerated much faster than the R9T and might lead to unwanted interaction with cops, LOL!

I've been thinking of getting something good for touring for some time now since my Street Triple R is not really good for two people and you can't put much luggage on it. I absolutely loved the BMW S1000XR on paper but, unfortunately, when I test rode it a few weeks ago I just really didn't like it. The bike is too tall (it's the only bike I've ever ridden where I felt like I wasn't able to properly put my feet down), the engine vibes like absolute crazy, the seat had me glad to get off after my 1 hour ride and the screen proved worse than nothing on the motorway due to the buffeting. I tell you what though, that engine and quickshifter made for some proper thrills! The panniers are big too, which is a plus. Now, if only they'd make a proper seat for it (like the GS) and sort out those vibrations I think it'd be a winner.

From other 2018 reviews, it sounds like they've done nothing to fix the vibration problem. I also found the 2017 to be super viby in the hands, pegs and even the seat. Max BMW always has about a dozen used ones for sale, most with only a few thousand miles on them. Buyers are simply tossing them back. This is a strict "STAY AWAY" warning. After only a 15 min test ride, my hands were completely numb on the 2017.

i put aftermarket Bar Ends and the vibration on the left handle is almost completely gone (you can feel 15%) and on the right hand is reduced by 50%. Seriously great bike if you don't want to compromise between comfort , touring capabilities and speed. Many compare it to the Multistrada, but when i test rode the new 1260, it felt so soft and slow compared to the XR. It was comfier and easier to ride, but it felt like it cost 5.000$ less than the XR while in fact it costs around 2.000$~ more! (both fully spected) . I do not know, each person has different taste.

Same here i own a S1000XR and test rode the new Multistrada 1260. The s1000XR feels heavier and taller than the Multistrada. It feels like the weight is in the front of the bike (which it is) . Like a tall superbike. The S1000XR is better at high speed cornering, and much more stable under full brake power, but thats because the suspension is a bit stiffer than the Multistrada. Multistrada is much more manage-able in low speeds. Lower to the ground, very good at absorbing the bumps of the road and has good torque. That being said, i really didn't feel that i rode a 20.000+euro bike while riding the Multistrada. While on the S1000XR you can feel the thought and engineering that went into making a bike like that. Both very good machines, but people have different needs and tastes. You have to test ride both, to decide for yourself!

1200GS is easier to ride, more comfortable for both rider and passenger and can go off road. 1000XR is faster and better at cornering. It depends on what you are looking for. If you had a supersport (r6, cbr600rr, gsxr1000) and you want something that feels like these bikes but is also more comfortable you should get the S1000XR. If you had an adventure bike like a V-Strom 650 or even a supermoto like a XT660X or a KTM SMC690, i think the torque-y engine of the R1200GS will suit you better.
@Texarmageddon6 жыл бұрын
Neither bikes are really off-road bikes, but you'd have less to worry about suspension wise by getting the 1200GS.. If you want a more capable Off-road touring bike I recommend the Tiger 800, V-Strom 650... Power wise they will suck, but you need that lower weight in the dirt.. If you don't have a dual sport I recommend riding one and see how important weight is to you in the dirt... If it's not that important I don't think ADV will be that important to you in general..
@MakTheSank6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely the GS is very heavy (doesnt feel heavy when you ride it) so it is not recommended for regular off-road use. At least not hardcore off-road. But the S1000XR is not really and ADV bike , just a tall Sport Touring !
