2018 BMW X5 xDrive40e | Diagonal Test | Can a PHEV climb that hill?

BMW is more serious than ever when it comes to EV and Plug-In Hybrid! From the cool and sexy BMW I8 ( that is now offered in roadster version ) to the BMW I3 ( Don't forget the range extender ) and now we need to add the BMW iPerformance lineup! The BMW X5 is now offered in plug-in hybrid version! Ok, it's now a lot of pure electrical autonomy but it combines fuel efficiency and a great government incentive!

Can you film and show us a 45deg or diagonal slip test with a phev outlander??where the awc should be 'cutting in' and applying breaks to the slipping wheels thus transferring power to traction wheels, and also where if the front wheels loose traction there should be enough power on the real to maintain drive? like an up hill test.. I have the issue with my phev where I hung up both front tyres in the air (spinning) while turning around on a dry bush track and even though both back wheels were firmly planted on the ground BUT there was no power to them to even make one of them spin!!...yes, I maintained acceleration for the AWC to cut in AND I tried traction on/off & 4wd was definitely on. Mitsubishi definitely needs to have a look at this issue!

Have you had a chance to take a Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid power train on these diagonal tests? The drivetrain is different from the standard current generation Volvo Awd drivetrain and would be interesting to see how it did compared to the BMW

My car sounds the same and hope all X5 40e does My mechanic says it has a faulty fly wheel, hence the sound, car has done 47K kms Plus the car jerks a bit hard whenever the engine kicks in probably 5 out of 10 times Is that normal Need help n advices

Basil Fernandez No excuses for the CX9, but this X5 starts at $63750. That's more than $18000 over a top spec CX9. It better be able to perform.

Yes, it's true. While the CX-9's performance is unacceptable, it would be an outrage if the X5, at nearly $64k starting price, did not perform adequately.

Can u put some common sedans with AWD system in the diagonal test? Fusion, Q50, Legacy, G80, Stinger, etc. Might need a different setup due to clearance.

Yes it’s the turbo trying hard to keep the traction going and filling up the places where it needs traction a combination between the AWD system and turbo and torque of the car working together.
