Dodge's Street and Racing Technology division made a drag strip worthy beast known as the Challenger Demon. We took our test drive in its natural habitat, the racetrack.

According to what I heard from a cast member from friends and top gear, chrysler engineers ran this vehicle 2,000 times at the drag strip and it did it without even having to take a break to cool down. Big V8, Big hydraulic planetary headset automatic transmission powering a brick, and can drag a Lamborghini down the drag strip. But put in a few twisties and the Lamborghini will leave it in 2 corners lol.
@jdubskiwright2380 Жыл бұрын
When people say o its faster on the strip then a Ferrari or a Lamborghini it's kinda idiotic..Ferraris and Lamborghinis are not made or designed for the drag strip there made for everything else and on the big end they will walk away from any American car... a ford focus st will leave a demon or a hellcat on an actual track..
@sidneysanders5726 Жыл бұрын
Well.. I did mention that a Ferrari and Lamborghini will leave it in the dust going around corners, those exotics cost alot. And it's a pretty big thing that a brick can go faster in a straight line vs something aerodynamic And the corvette can keep up with any one of the exotics. Hell, a new mustang GT500 can keep up with a track tuned Porsche. American cars are slower than most European cars. So to say that a European exotic can outrun ANY American made car is idiotic.
@jdubskiwright2380 Жыл бұрын
@@sidneysanders5726 not idiotic at all. It depends on the vehicle and it depends on what there doing..most American muscle cars are not tuned for twist and turns while European cars are.. while you'll never get a demon or hellcat to hang with a euro around a track simple because of weight distribution and the overall dimension of the car.. it the only mustang's that are stock that can even begin to go around tracks anywhere close to most high end Europeans are the most recent models in the past few years.. the gt350 gt500 even the boss 302 from 2013 are decent for track use..remember this goes back 50 plus years of design Europeans have always made there sports cars like this while the concept of American cars being designed to handle the same conditions are much newer considering... once you start modifying vehicles you can build almost anything to handle twist n turns good.. suspension upgrades weight distribution changes do wonders for anything

I’m a ford fan personally, and I will gladly admit that this is one impressive car, but for me personally, I think that the most impressive part of the demon (the power), is also its biggest reason not to get it. Who wouldn’t feel like a complete badass running 800+ horses? But unless you’re on a drag strip, or driving down the airplane runway from the fast and furious, you’ll never have a real opportunity to put that power to the test, this car isn’t built to do anything but go straight, and like I said before that’s fine and dandy, but I’d personally rather have something that can perform all around. Hella props to dodge for this one though. Side note, just seeing those thin ass wheels in comparison to the rest of the car is fucking hilarious to me 😂😂😂

While I do understand that some Dodge Chrysler products left much room for improvment. I.E. durability, performance. That can also be said about all production companies. What they are doing here is giving you a drag car thats street rdy ( and very comparable in mpg and performance) to the competition. Where as other give you a street car that you get drag rdy. A FREAKING STOCK TRANS BRAKE!!! A lauch control system that should be able to hard launch all day ( as said by the vid.... Sounds too good to be true). My point here is to 👏 and cheer for the route they are taking here. Because truth be told its yet to be put to the test by the public. I for one see these in a few years coming down in price, and when after market parts start flowing. This could be and enthusiasts dream.

It comes down to displacement, boost levels and MOST importantly # of cylinders. The smaller the cylinders the more power you can make with a given octane rating. Hefner motorsports has made 1,700hp on pump gas with a 8+ltr v10 viper. Also HP is just a calculation...Engines actually only make Torque. HP is just TQ x RPM/ 5252rpms. IF dodge gave the Demon a solid roller cam...it would be able to rev higher and break 1,000hp with ease.

@av49266 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, it's silly to hear the ones that don't. If a car's parts are made in their home country but built in the US, the US labor force wins and before any profit goes back to Japan for instance, they pay taxes on the sale which is Huge. Is that to difficult for you douche nozzles to understand or what. When Dodge makes the car in Canada, it profits Canada's economy not the US.
@erikw7926 жыл бұрын
+Vin Vin The profits go to the stock holders whom can be from anywhere. The idea of a Japanese or American car is an outdated concept in a globalized world. By your logic if I buy a Dodge wouldn't all the profit be going to Italy? As Los Pollos Hermanos said Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Subaru are just as if not more American based than Dodge.
@av49266 жыл бұрын
No, they would pay sales tax in the US which is HUGE and it would help out a lot, then after the US gets their cut, then the left over profits can go to who the hell cares. The rest of your comment is just stupid and makes no sense. If Dodge was made here, it would benefit the US even more as it would create jobs in dozens of fields like manufacturing, different metals, plastics, carpeting and so on but Dodge is giving that nice chunk to Canada and then they claim American Pride. That is BS and it doesn't take a degree to understand this, even an idiot can, unless you are liberal, they are too stupid to understand any damn thing!

All afternoon to do run after run. You have at least 2 dozen runs that you could show the times, but you don't. Also, Dodge is on drugs if they think that SRT Durango is worth 65K.

I find it strange too that for as long as the Demon has been out, there's no "real world" numbers floating about.....I can't a video to support anything on what a Demon actually runs. Heard rumors of low 11's, but nothing caught on video.....hmmmm

jet052673 they are not out yet. Once you see jay Leno do a review they will officially be out. Should be in owners hands mid to end of fall.

Considering a JCG SRT8’s have $70k+ window stickers these days, the Durango IS a slight cost savings for those who want a 392 Hemi in an AWD SUV package. But yeah, new car prices have really gotten outta hand in recent years. I’ll bet in a decade, there’ll be Camrys pushing $60k.

Mid 9s and low 10s are two different things. Weather and conditions included. I knew that 9.65 was stretched to the extreme by dodge. An opposite example would be Chevy with the Camaro. Says it runs 12.3 yet people get 11.9-12.0 regularly stock. Not saying Chevy fan boy talk just an example.
@DevPack6 жыл бұрын
No one is getting 11.9 - 12.0 in a stock Camaro SS or SS 1LE. I was just at the track and the best a 1LE did was 12.3 with drag radials lol with decent conditions.

Well yet another review of the mighty dodge demon....and another review that could not even get close to the 9's on a qrt run! Does anyone know what it takes to make a car go from a mid 10 to a mid 9????? A LOT!!! This is not like taking a Civic and going from a 15 to a 14 sec run....get down that low...and it takes a ton of money and mods to tick off a full second!...just ask any REAL street racer! The demon is incapable of running a mid 9 in anything short of being in the artic! Wish Dodge would own up to that fact!
@TomazHilton6 жыл бұрын
Low 10s is close to 9. and if you were smart enough to think. if they did get 9 or lower, they wouldn't be able to run on the track again because it would be banned after that....
@streetreaper49846 жыл бұрын
Tomaz Hilton WHAT????? Did you even think what you were saying?? Low 10s is close to 9s...And so are HORSESHOES. And this is a private track that motor week tests on genius. They can go as fast as they want. Since you apparently know nothing about street racing...let me educate you on something. The difference between a low 10 car (720 S) and a mid 9 car (bugatti) has a considerable price tag. I can promise you....the demon WILL NOT HIT A 9.65 in any condition that is considered "normal" The car is 4000 lbs AFTER weight reduction. Simple mathematics on power to weight ratio will tell you all you need to know. Look it up if you can calculate on real super cars what it takes to run a 9.65 in a qrt mile!

This is not a Private track dumb ass. it has fucking Sponser signage everywhere not to mention the big NHRA sign!!!! not to mention Bleachers for the PUBLIC!!. this is a Racetrack in INDIANA!!!! Motorweek is based in MARYLAND!!! i know cause im from MARYLAND!!! This test was part of the FCA's Road Tests for the Press!!!... you tried it.

Tomaz Hilton They used privious footage on the video....DUMBASS! motor week has their own private track they test all their cars at so they can have a true baseline to base their numbers off of. They didn't post numbers because they were not allowed to show how slow the demon actually is. Look at all the footage and see if you can't find every second on prior videos on the net!! DUMBASS! 😂

And Motor wise Dodge V8 are less trouble than chevy v8s. Old dodges trucks had trans trouble (a518

If you are worried about top speed...the hellcat charger is the one to get...204.55mph. Way faster than any Mustang. I'm still waiting for a thorough test of the Hellcat Widebody....it's said to be 2 sec faster on a road course than the regular challenger hellcat and 3/10ths faster in the 1/4 mile. Demon only needs a set of Widebody rims and tires and a tuner to remove the limiter....should be good for 210mph +/-.

All the hype and all the videos and once it came out noone talked about it anymore. Sure, you've got this video but I just don't hear about it and I haven't even seen one at the popular cars and coffees around greater Chicagoland where there's a lot of money even! Can't do a legit pass down the quarter mile unless you cage it, needs 100 race fuel to get the additional 32 (BFD), so where do you take it...the streets, oh yeah, BRILLIANT!
