I love his videos but hate the blurred speedo. Maybe in his country it’s more likely to be used against you in court or something though so I cant fault him too much. After all it’s the part of the world where you can get fined for what you say on social media.

It’s a shame the weather wasn’t better that day. That bike has hidden talents that you only get to exploit on bone dry tarmac. I am of course biased (given I’m a 1200R owner) but the first time you crank it hard coming out of a roundabout it all starts to make more sense. I’d never knowingly done a wheelie until I got the bike, but they are standard issue now!

“11 Degrees” refers to the amount of duration in crankshaft degrees of the overlap. The period when the intake valves are open at the same time the exhaust valves have not fully closed.

A bit nerdy isn't it, it's the camshafts that control the valves of course. "The engine’s 11 degrees of valve overlap (some 30 degrees less than is found in the 1198 superbike from which it’s derived) is key to its street-centric state of tune, which offers much greater low-to-midrange torque and smoother, more linear delivery."

Haven't got time to read through all the comments so sorry if this has been covered but the 11 degree refers to the degrees of crankshaft rotation with valve overlap (Inlet and Exhaust Valves open at the same time). Hope this has helped some people.

Good video thanks, it's called an 11 Degree Testastretta because the valve 'overlap' is set at 11 degrees to make for a more flexible state of tune.

My biggest complaint about the new monsters must be the protruding exhaust. The heatshield on the exhaust barely does anything. In slow city traffic when my right foot is on the rear brake the contact patch between my leg and the pipes is massive and gets hot quickly. In addition, the exhaust sweeps up towards my boots when I'm riding on the balls of my feet. Boots haven't melted yet, but better be careful.

I had the joy of swapping bikes and riding both a friend's 2016 1200S and my 2017 Super Duke R yesterday. I'm thrilled with the Super Duke and wouldn't trade it for anything but at 5'10" the 1200S was a great fit for me with it's lower height and compact feel; it made me realize I need to move my bars to aft setting on the SD. The Ducati has maybe more (good) character than the KTM but a little less refinement? I'll be looking forward to riding his Monster again and owning a Ducati has moved up on my motorcycling bucket list. And if these are a little spendy let me note that riding another friend's 2008 990 Duke was just as much fun as either of the newer bikes with it's lighter feel in handling and power delivery.

I have Monster 1200cc. Has one of the best engines on any bike. Especially at higher rpms the engine feels orgasmic. But in this day and age where we are spoilt for choice with excellent bikes for a lot less, it is increasingly difficult to justify plonking down 15k for a naked. But I guess Ducati clientele are price insensitive and would pay the premium either way. I did anyway and love the sight of my Monster whether it's parked or whether it's tearing down the road. You pay for the feeling I guess. Can't really put a price on that.

Own a standard Monster 1200, lovely bike. Got £700 off by buying in September...too good a deal to turn down. Very much a Sunday blast or cruise bike. But more than comfortable enough to drain the tank, fill it up and go again. Regrets....Monster S with the lighter wheels, M50s and the Ohlins suspension. Costs more, but the bits would cost a lot more to upgrade separately. Worth the upgrade just for the Ohlins. Given how bumpy and choppy UK roads are the suspension works amazingly well, soaks it up and then performs brilliantly when you stomp on the brakes. Only downsides....the chain. The stock chain is complete crap. It seems to want to rust at the sight of water. I spend all my time scrubbing it and treating it. Will upgrade to a proper chain at next service.
@patrickhd346 жыл бұрын
Hi Rodi Yep, I should do. I suspect they will say I have not been looking after it, but worth a try - even if I just get a discount on a decent chain. Never had a bike with a chain that rusted so quickly and completely. That's the odd thing with Ducatis...premium bike and is superb to ride. But has little niggles like this. Another one is the lock on the petrol cap, it is just rough. Putting the key in is like shoving a piece of glass in there. Feels cheap. Can forgive these issues purely because it is so nice. But Ducati should eliminate these as easy fixes.
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Love it "treat you mean keep you keen" sounds about right!! ...and worth a warranty punt with that chain, that is indeed what I did with the Panigale and haven't had an issue since...

Mr Flyer, the top speck is the Monster R & not the S. What a pity you couldn't take it through more twisties. The R is the one you should try. My dealership in Sydney gave me the S for a day. Lovely bike. But the R absolutely shocked me at how good it handles. I was in a dead lock between the MT10SP & The R. I was supposed to buy both, but I need room for the GS. In the end the R won for the fun factor & sheer Torque. The SDR was the other that came close, but the MT10SP & the R just kill it when you want something that handles sublimely. The more you push the Öhlins shocks, the better the bike responds. From now on, every bike will have Öhlins in my garage. Until you've ridden them, & pushed them, you won't understand gents. The MT10SP is one of the most planted bikes I've ever rode. I was looking for a "Fun Torque" bike. There was no point in the Tuono, S1000R, as I wasn't looking for a blaster (sports naked). My '16 S1000 RR will do that job nicely thank you. But for sheer pleasure of torque & handling, you can't go past the monster R (or the MT10SP). Every one who's tested the Monster range has been really surprised. There good fellas! But I totally agree with a lot of people, there bloody expensive!!! But I'm not looking at price anymore. I just want the best handling machines in my stable. I tested 7 bikes, & to come up with the R & the MT10SP is saying something very big gents. Its not about HP. Its about low down torque, road usability, mixed with Öhlins wizardry. The grey looks very ugly, but just ride it gents. You'll find a very surprising feel about it. Thanks Mr Flyer, always a pleasure to watch you. Cheers groover ;-)
@bondistudios53076 жыл бұрын
the R is the top spec but funny enough.... it doesnt have the duck quick shifter. all your getting above the S is 10hp, forged rims, small fly shield, ohlins dampener and possibly more carbon
@motogroover27896 жыл бұрын
Bondi Media Productions: Your only partly right. No more extra carbon than the S. Its only the front mud guard. The headers, (R model) are from the full system, this means you only need to buy the slip-on package with the mapping. The R (in Sydney) is $3k more than the S. But the full system for the S is $2900 + fitting $290. The rip-off is that the slip-on for the R is $2450 + fitting. So in the end, the R is only $2500 more of a cost than the S. But you also forgot the big difference. The R is lifted 15mm front & back to give it the 50 degree clearance, as its track orientated. And that my friend is all the handling in the world. It quickens the steering by far. The R just about turns itself, its that good. Oh, you forgot the 131.4nm of torque you get more as well. Trust me, I had the S for a whole day, & through "Nasho" at warp speed! Nothing wrong with the S at all, whatsoever. A brilliant bike. But for $2.5k, its a NO brainer. The Marchessini's alone are worth the cash, which accounts for the steering & handling & braking. The Öhlins steering dampener is sublime, & thats worth $800. Just 1 or 2 clicks on it change the steering immensely. But believe me, the torque & HP doesn't seem like only 6-7nm & 10-15HP. It feels like much more than the S. The issue here in AUS, is that the R is not a "demo" bike. So my decision to go the R over the S was a gamble. But it paid off in spades! Cheers groover, see you at Nasho ;-)
@motogroover27896 жыл бұрын
Bondi Media Productions: Sorry, my apologies. I forgot to mention the footpegs, rider & pax. They're handed down from the Superleggera. You'll find them on the top spec Panigale's. I've honestly never had that much grip on a foot-peg ever before. They're works of art machined from a block of alloy. You see, when you look at it this way, 2.5k isn't much if you have 30k in the first place. Thats the way I summed it up, and made the decision on that theory. It was a decision i'll cherish for life. And to think I hated Ducati's with a passion in the 90's. I know they're expensive, but wow are they nice to ride. I'm totally converted. But then again, I love all bikes, big or small. Cheers groover ;-)
@bondistudios53076 жыл бұрын
i would buy an R in a heart beat if it had the ducati quick shift. I was under the impressions the seat heights were similar with the new S and the R but i see that i was wrong. personally i cant got without a unidirectional QS after having it and i know its not for everyone but i also feel thats a large oversight on ducati. Up QS's can be fitted for after market but not down... unless they have that options since i last looked. I have ridden a 2015 1200R and loved it very much, the wheels are an amazing touch
@motogroover27896 жыл бұрын
Bondi Media Productions: Funny you should say that! It was one of the biggest reasons holding me back buying the R. The S was so good with the Öhlins & the shifter. But now in hindsight, it's not an issue. Whenever I jump back on the S1KRR, I totally forget to quickshift! I've just gotten so used to the clutch. Yeah I now realise that you dont really need the quickshift. Its the Blipper that I miss the most. I can see your ride is the same as mine. That blipper on the beemer is out of this world! I don't plan on retro fitting the R either, as I've read quiet a few have blown the gearbox because of after-market shifters. Probably not adjusted correctly. Your more than welcome to ride her if I see you at "Nasho". Her name is Renata. The beemer is called Heidi. Cheers Groover ;-)

Also not bothered about the radiator pipes, it’s a bit industrial looking which is cool. Though I am concerned about the header pipes rusting, such a premium bike should have a full Stainless system IMHO. TMF, corrosion on the exhaust!!!!!! look at the complete lack of front mudguard!!!!!!!! Up here in Scotland, the roads are so poor in my area, the radiator would also quickly be destroyed from flying chips. Superb sound though. Thanks for sharing. Kindest regards A82 Joe. PS Four white vans - they're out to get you young man.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hey buddy, great review, love my 1200S, Agree about the resivour caps, I’ve changed mine to machines ones as much better and added plenty of carbon and evotech parts too, Strange you say about the stiff clutch as mine is super light, cannot wait to run mine in so I can give it full beans! Cheers. G-MAN

what sservicing like? loks tight in there... any info on the intervals vs the lower capacity models? The lower capacity look easier to get at, so maybe cheaper to run

The way things are going, it won't be long before most bikes have a bigger engine than most cars! This is no tourer and practically a single-seater. For its intended use, the 797 is all you need (unless your making up for difficiecies elsewhere).

I think the 821 is the Goldilocks Monster. The engine's a liquid-cooled four-valve thing, there's quite a bit more power than the 797; easily enough to accelerate very hard while still not being as outsized as the 1200. I thought the 1200 was a bit much; I don't enjoy bikes I can barely get out of 2nd gear on. The suspension however was absolutely terrific.

Ya the KTM is legit and a real beast. The product guys got carte Blanche on that one, good point.

Great first look as ever. looks a beast of a bike. I quite like the way Ducati run their exhausts...BUT if they are going to do this, they should be made of premium materials given they are so prominent and are a kind of signature of their bikes...my like would turn to hate if those pipes rusted up....as they would then be an eye sore....and on a premium price bike not that great. ....So, this dealer does Harleys...do they ever give test rides? hint hint Harley cherry.....
@TheMissendenFlyer6 жыл бұрын
Yes there's a Harley dealer associated with Blade next door - so I'm hoping to get a ride on one sometime soon for sure...
@Vernon2406 жыл бұрын
That would be good to hear what you think. Do they also help you out with the err 'sartorial requirements' for such a bike?

Kind of unrelated to the video but i just recently got a pair of RST Adventure Pro 3 trousers. I was wondering if when you first got them did you feel the waist was uncomfortable? Like it fits just fine but the material is quite scratchy on my skin, did you have that and did it go away? Great video!

Cool another video just in time for after a dinner. It really do not get what’s the front mud guard for on this bike? It looks like the radiator will be shattered in a short time. Not to mention front cylinder will be looking horrible even quicker than on the old monsters. Don’t get the Trabant inspired colour either... I mean it is quite ugly tbh. Give me the old S2R anytime :)

Good Ride & 1st impression ;) My same thoughts on their new architecture...I'm not a fan of the pipes or tubing layout. Great color & gobs of power and character, though! RSMF

Hi Mf.... great review as always. How does the Monster stack up against bikes like Ktm sd Mt10 and the Tuono???..... or are those in a different league?? Nice bike but have Ducati missed the boat regarding the hyper nakeds??? Cheers Mark.

Good review, TMF. Nice bike albeit not my taste in Ducatis. I’m more the Panigale type I suppose. This bike could make good use of some expensive Termignonis and a tail tidy methinks. Cheers. 🏍👍🏍

The Bonnies were designed to prominently display their engines, thus appearance was a heavily weighted priority. The water cooled engines in the Ducs were designed to hide behind a fairing and propel a sport bike around a track at breakneck speeds. We are lucky they don't hurt our eyes any worse than they do when the fairings are removed. I like the deeper sound of the 1200 compared to some of the smaller ones, but all the additional heat and top end power is not worth the extra coin to me. I also dig Ducati yellow, so I'd hold out for the 821 with a nice set of Termis. It looks cleaner without that oil cooler dangling off the bottom too. That said, it still has the plumbing on full display on the left side. I'm so stoked to see the new air cooled Scrambler 1100. Should be here May 5. The mirrors are there to see what's beside you, not behind you. Push them out to eliminate your blind spots and you won't view your shoulders anymore...nor will you have blind spots. Sharing may be caring, but pulling over onto the same piece of road with a car you didn't see may also be painful.
