2018 DUCATI PANIGALE 959 CORSE, is it a better bike than the standard 959?

Went to do part 2 of my V4 Panigale video and it had been sold, so took out the superb 959 Corse instead, hope you enjoy the video!

Great vid Greg and great to meet you on the day. Love the paint job on that 959 but agree with you that Ducati should have fitted a carbon front mudguard and/or hugger! And believe it or not, my Pikes Peak problem (stuttering midrange) is fixed......albeit unintentionally! The chap who took it out for a test ride came back and said he couldn’t really notice the issue I was describing.....so we arranged that I’d bring it back in couple of weeks for a mechanic to take a longer test. But the moment I left Ducati Cambridge, the stuttering was gone! The only thing that was done before the test ride is he went into the menu and set everything to factory default! And that’s it! Voila, bike sorted! I had assumed that the other dealer, where I bought the bike, would have done that as part of the pre-sale inspection! I hadn’t made any setting changes myself! I’m still puzzled as to what setting/s were causing the problem.......I’ll most probably never know. Just very pleased it’s all sorted! The bike is now very quick and sounds awesome with the Termi full system, lots of pops and crackles when changing down and a thumping boom on acceleration! Let me know if you’re bored one day and want to go for a rideout. Richard

Have to admit it looked very 'orange' on the video.....should be 'Ferrari Red' IMHO.....sounds much the same as yours did to my ears...maybe a bit more throaty 'on the pipe;....

I’m in the very fortunate position of being able to buy one. Unfortunately a brand new Panigale costs a ridiculous amount to insure! I can get the underslung exhaust and the seat cowl for an extra £800. Including insurance it ends up just under £20k all in. Worth it over a used 959 (which costs considerably less to buy and just under half the insurance cost)?

Mate, you buy these things with your heart not your head, the underneath pipes are a must and I would never have a 959 without them, 20k is a lot of dosh, personally I’d go for a standard V4 at 19k then trick it up over the time you have it 😜

Ah, yeah crap the insurance but doesn’t make sense as value is the same, thinking about it the 959 is all the power you need on the road, just lacking a bit on track, I nearly shat my pants when I test rode the V4 😳

Funny you say that, this bike was quoted for $95 for full coverage /month. Japanese bikes my insurance for to $160/month. Go figure

great video, i was looking at getting this before i ordered the V4s as i loved the look of it, but like you said you would want to spend money on the underslung exhaust and over bits when looking at price was not far off the V4. And for me i thought if i can get the V4 may as well go all out and go for the V4s, i may go to Ducati today to see when its in.

If you sitting on a sports bike and have wrist and arm issues you are sitting wrong, you are not supposed to rest on the handle bars, you suppose to be light on the bars it's safer practice and you more comfortable, I can't understand how so many don't understand this.

How is the v4 more comfy then the old panigale? explain. The old panigale has shorter reach to the clippons and have slipper seat ie you are closer to the front and you can flat foot a lot easier because of the narrower seat. on a d675 or the old panigale I pretty much sit almost upright with a very slim tilt forwards and I dont need to stretch to reach the clippons like on old Ducati or the new R1.

Not sure why mate I find the V4 more comfy than my old 959, it’s just how I feel and I guess everyone is a different height, weight etc, sorry I don’t have a proper answer mate 😬

I know mate, I think the bars are wider on the V4 or something, I couldn’t workout why it was more comfy, I’m doing part 2 of the V4 test ride very soon 👍

I loved my 959 buddy, it wasn’t the fastest bike in the works but looked and sounded great and did feel very special to ride and I don’t think many Japanese bikes would make you feel so special as it was totally reliable too, cheers, Gman

Good choice, the PANIGALE is a way more focused bike and better in nearly every way compared to the SS well except comfort 😜

Yes exactly the same heat as my old 959 gave out, pretty unbearable in any really warm weather, was one reason I sold my 959 and got the Monster 😬

I spent my money wisely, I got a 2017 Kawasaki ZX10R with 207 horsepower for less money and it would smoke that bike on a track ! How did you become the G-MAN ?

Most people can't even ride these bikes to their full potential on a track anyways. You can have all the hp in the world but if can't learn to properly use it then, what's the point? In alt of cases more horsepower equals more weight.
