Worst thing about this game is we somehow allowed them to score 21 points. Now 3 months later they act like they were the better team and that Florida, despite going 10-3 and ending up in the top 10 in the final poll, still had a lucky miracle to beat them. Ask an UT fan and they will flat out tell you that if it weren't for the 6 or 7 or 80 turnovers they had in the game, they would have blown our doors off. The moral of the story is, you can never beat Tennessee too badly. They are like cancer.

It makes complete sense. It's the same rule that's applied for kick-offs and punts - after the kick, if the ball goes into the endzone and then out of bounds, it's (still) a touchback and possession goes to the other team.

It doesn't matter if it's a special teams play or not. And yes, no shit if the ball merely crosses the goal line on a kickoff, it's still a live ball - I never said it wasn't. Think of it this way - on a regular play, if a team fumbles it out of bounds, they retain possession of the ball at the point the ball went out of the field of play. BUT, on a regular play, if a team were to fumble it into the opponent's endzone and then out of bounds, and you had it your way and the fumbling team still retains possession... where would the officials place the ball?? You wouldn't be able to treat it like if it were fumbled in the field of play, you can't place the ball in the endzone. The rules of the game are pretty uniform on this - if a team fumbles the ball into their *own* endzone and it goes out of bounds, it is a safety; if a team fumbles the ball into their *opponent's* endzone and it then goes out of bounds, it must by rule be a touchback because ANY time a team loses (fumbles) or passes (kickoffs/punts) possession of the ball into their opponent's endzone and it then passes out of bounds, it is ALWAYS a touchback where the other team takes possession of the ball - kickoff, punt, fumble, whathaveyou. And just so we're clear, I'm a fellow Gator fan.
