it's not a crossover based on a cars unibody, it's an suv based on a trucks frame so of course it's not going to be nimble.
@AWDfreak7 жыл бұрын
SteelCity1981 - despite that, there are still body-on-frame vehicles that are nimble enough for police pursuit duty, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe PPV and the new Ford F-150 Police Responder. A body-on-frame vehicle will never be as nimble as a comparable unibody vehicle, but it's fair to say a body-on-frame vehicle can be modified to be nimble enough to not be a severely-understeering plow.

I'm surprised that we didn't see any of Motorweek's signature drag strip / slalom footage for the '18 Expedition. Typically, when they do that for people haulers, the results are admittedly entertaining. Seriously, I wanted to see how a contemporary truck-based SUV handles and brakes. I'm also wondering why nobody in the automotive press ever comments on the absence of the F-150's smaller and more frugal 2.7 Ecoboost from the Expedition and the Explorer. @zakariadalil6 жыл бұрын
In 1932, Ford invented the V8 engine and then everybody followed. And in 2009, they created the EcoBoost V6 Twin Turbo engine and soon everybody will follow. Guys, Formula 1's engine is now 2.0L Twin turbo and that's hybrid.. it's not about the # of cylinders.. that's old school!
@wildbill23c6 жыл бұрын

Its hilarious, how car manufacturers promote towing capacity of their SUVs, but payload of this cars is around 1500 lbs. If you are towing 6000 lbs trailer, you have to substract from payload tongue weight 600-700 lbs. You have around 800 for 7/8 people and their stuff, 100lbs per person. OMG this is shame so low payload capacity of so big cars. I am from EU, and i would like to ask why cars sold in US have much less payload capacity than same cars sold in EU (for example Mitsubishi Outlander: US payload less than 1200 lbs, EU payload more than 1500 lbs)?

Okay, why is the assumption automatically made that in order to buy one of these, you MUST be towing something? What if you just want it for the actually useable third row (sorry, the explorers sucks) and better reliability it has over these piece of shit car- based crossovers, that often times have the reliability of the piece of shit cars they're based on? Id personally rather have a truck, with proven truck hardware, then drive around in a gussied up wagon with a shitty turbo 4-cylinder or a somewhat-competent-at-best sedan V6 (The EcoBoost V6 is a different story of course).

All that work on a 'joint venture' 10 speed, and you're only able to manage 19mpg. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Thanks Ford, for proving once again that more speeds=/=better fuel economy or smoothness. This truck probably searches for gears like nothing else out there. Keep it 6 speeds or less, or dont bother.
@alexsmba7 жыл бұрын
LRulesTheWorld you’re obviously uninformed. Fewer gears will hunt more because it always has to compromise. This will get closer to the perfect ratio for any given conditions. Glad Ford and GM engineers are smarter than you. :)
@ZepG7 жыл бұрын
LRulesTheWorld Damn you are so smart that you can't understand logic, A full size SUV getting 19 mpg is amazing, My 4.0 FJ Cruiser with a mild lift gets about 16 mpg.
@LrulestheworldM87 жыл бұрын
Alex Stelling Incorrect. Fewer gears means the transmission doesnt hunt. It shifts properly through all of its gears, and is wasting less energy that the engine is putting out, and transfering more power to the ground. When you start adding more gears, the transmission spends most of its time in coms searching for the correct gear to match the speed of the vehicle, thereby wasting energy. There is a reason the best performing vehicles on earth dont come with 10 speeds. GM engineers are about as smart as a sack of rocks in a corn field. Myself, and other engineers, who actually know what they are doing, stay away from more than 6 speeds because it is inefficient and costly. (Unless a rare case appears where 7 are needed for higher speed.) You'll be finding out just how bad these transmissions are in just a few short years. Then, when the problem sheets and service bulletins hit dealers, you can come back and thank me for warning you.
@LrulestheworldM87 жыл бұрын
ZepG A full size tahoe from the 90s gets 21-25mpg. The fact that this truck hits $60k in base form, and still isnt recieving numbers that were topped 20 years ago, even with a 10 speed transmission and tens of thousands of dollars in 'new technology', is pathetic.
@alexsmba7 жыл бұрын
LRulesTheWorld you’re mistaking “hunting” for shifting. Try a 4 speed automatic up the Teton pass, and you will learn what hunting is when a transmission can’t make up its mind between 2nd and 3rd. Laboring in 3rd and revving hard in 2nd. Forget about trying to overtake. Add a trailer and it’s worse. I’ll take the smart 10 speed thanks.
