It's always harder to put it back in because everything has to line up properly. Also there are companies that repair clusters at much reasonable price. Module Master in Moscow, Idaho does them.

The video took me right back to my installations the tugging the pulling the unplugging all at the right angles for each! And then don’t FORGET TURN OFF THAT KEY! Fellow tech left it on to silence the chime, $800 later after the repair he never forgot to TURN OFF THE KEY AGAIN! 😳

Oh yeah I'm really good with the interior work on these things so I can have an entire interior ripped out in just an hour and a half and then the dash out just a couple hours later

Techni-car in Oldsmar Florida rebuilds clusters at a fraction of the cost of a new one. They did my Silverado in 1 day( I live nearby). They do all brands. BTW I watched this vid because of a rattle in the dash after bringing it to the dealership for a dash pad replacement because of the damage they did after a blend door replacement . Your vid showed that the mech forgot 2 bolts. Hopefully it fixes the rattle. You would not believe what I have gone through the past 2 years with this dealership. All because of an incompetent mech that couldn't fix the ac drain line that leaked into the cabin. Eventually got mold so the carpet and insulation had to be replaced which required the dash to be removed. I've had problems ever since. I've found missing bolts and trim clips. Damaged interior plasitc panels that wwere painted and after the paint peeled the panels were replaced.Broken bolts on the center console. I've chased and fixed most of rattles. They dented my hood when the mech used his hand to close the hood. Pointless dent guy fixed that. These are just some of the problems.

It usually takes a good 10 years before all the plastic gets really brittle. I would imagine sooner in the desert southwest. In a cold climate, or really cold weather, I would bring the vehicle into a heated shop so it can sit inside overnight or run the heat in the car for a while before taking plastic stuff apart

Wow. All my incandescent bulbs are still original on my ‘01 Expedition (360k miles). So much for LED lights lasting longer… In all reality this is a design flaw

@@buckhorncortez Well, in my opinion, replacing the cluster every 4 years due to failed backlighting at a cost of $600 to $800 is a total fail. I would imagine this would be a safety violation concern for those of us that are required to have annual inspection. Regarding a circuit design flaw, I can tell you LEDs are current driven devices and require current limiting (usually 20 milliamps per LED). So, for example, if a manufacturer wanted to cut costs they could use fewer LEDs and over-drive the current to let’s say 25mA or for reliability you could reduce the current with more LEDs to achieve the same brightness and never have a problem. I see the same issues with ‘economy’ brand TVs that have LED backlit displays. The current is cranked up so high they fail after a year…

Yep, can't be scared, a lot of firm tugs is necessary. The plastic on new and newer vehicles are able to take it. It's where the vehicles are aging and every plastic retaining clip breaks is when I am a fair bit more cautious.

Exactly. I have a almost mint 1995 Ford Taurus GL wagon w/ 60K and it's getting tough to find some of those plastic parts that break when you are anything but gentle. Age definitely makes a difference.

Sad the dash bulbs on my 2003 Ford Ranger burned out. Uses 194 bulbs that are easy to get. Sad you have to replace the whole cluster now.

Yeah they're not going to want you to change things if it wasn't built that way so the warranty would definitely be hampered because they're going to have to change the way it was set up from the factory and then if you go anywhere else other than that one dealer and something happens they're not going to know how to address it so it's better to do it once you're out of warranty and it takes about an hour and a half to two hours max to do all the work

Hello i have a question not related to this video. Here goes, my wife and I want to purchase a 2021 Ford Explorer timberline edition. The power plant is a 2.3 ecoboost would you say that’s a good engine? Or should we get a 2021 st with a 3.0 ecoboost? Thanks Shawn

So far we've had no issues with the 2.3 l EcoBoost in the new explorers the most that they're having is programming issues with electronics but not the powertrain

Actually the p/n you read off is for a 2018 KPH cluster, not a mph one and if you used that p/n or the vehicle VIN when ordering then you would've got a KPH cluster. See the cheap aftermarket mph speedometer gauge face on that cluster; it was done by an importer who got the truck from Canada and slapped that mph gauge face on it.

We ended up coming out with everything in the long run because what ended up happening is when you look this up by then the part number was only giving you a kilometer part number because this was originally a Canadian truck

Came across this as my 2021 F 150 Instrument Cluster 8 inch screen displays these horizontal background lines in colder weather. Normally when the vehicle itself is cold. Trying to find a fix but no luck so far. thanks.

You're going to have to verify that it's not leaking from what they already repaired and then if it is you're going to have to take it back and tell them to fix it because those are common leaks on those trucks

@@FordBossMe Rats. Just a thought. I think that I will just stick with my panther platform Town Car. I can work on that. Just towed a Mercedes SUV back from northern NJ, on a Dolly, to Syracuse NY area (280 miles). My Lincoln barely broke a sweat, even in the hills. Rarely did it kick down into a lower gear. Class 4 hitch bolted to the frame. Aside from a truck, what do you attach a serious hitch to. I don't want a truck. I like real cars. How about a reincarnation of the panther platform and offer it with a turbo 4 banger, the twin turboed 6 cylinder with external water pump a small 8 and a 460 big block.

I would run it thexwhy it is. That crazy to cost that much and probably happen again . I have 2018 ford f150 only 12000 miles on it and the ac has to be replaced at the cost of $5000 . Ford has really went down hill in my opinion. Next truck will be a ram.
