I think it's annoying having the casters so biased toward foreigners. And when I say that I'm mainly thinking of Tastosis. Noregret is actually personally involved in the foreigner team house. Of course he's biased. And he's just a temporary guest. In a way its kind of fun seeing him root for his player and get his insight. But it gets annoying having Tastosis rooting for the foreigner every single time and exaggerating their chances. It makes you not care about their opinions when every time Scarlett plays she has a chance of winning the whole tournament and her micro's so amazing oh and her macro too. And then, barring last season, she gets crushed by not even the best in Korea. When Korean players with underwhelming play face top tier Koreans, according to Tastosis they have low chances of taking it but when it's a foreigner playing who, realistically, has even lower chances of success, it's time to get hyped for the non Korean hope. And of course every right move they make in game is gratuitously applauded. Idk, they need to chill on that shit I think. Especially since we have all these player interviews being translated into English. We actually have a chance to connect with and learn about the personalities of the best of the best. The players who clearly train the hardest and are the most talented. But no, I guess it's still us vs them.

I agree that they overrate most of the foreigners. But Scarlett is legitimately really good, just not extremely consistent. I mean, she beat Innovation in a bo3, that makes her a contender. As for the others... look. We've seen the Korean players _so_ many times, we know them pretty well at this point. But the foreigners in the GSL is a relatively recent thing, or at least it's been a while. Beyond the obvious bias of wanting Starcraft to be more competitive globally, they're still newcomers to GSL and therefore a more interesting story.

I think they do accept the fact that koreans are insanely good though, they continuously call rogue the best zerg in the world and maru the best terran in the world and I think they just feel bad for the foreigner whose about to get fucking stomped by them... I dont think its so much about us vs them I just think its because they want to give a good consideration to the underdog even if they have low chances of succeeding... I always personally root for the underdog unless its a matchup where I really like one player over the other. They just want to emphasize how zanster was actually a relatively competitive player against the koreans.

I thought No Regret did a great job as caster, I didnt find him to be overly partial and it was interesting hearing from his perspective as a coach.

Definitely. I miss the banter between Tasteless and Artosis a little, but the analysis is WAAAY better. As far as favoritism, I mean, on one hand it's understandable to want more non-Koreans who can play at GSL level, but also, they're all relatively new to the GSL and improving visibly over time, which makes them more interesting to talk about than many of the players who have been in GSL for years and haven't changed that much.

Not overly partial? Are you kidding me? For a near verbatim recount of just one of the subjective utterances of the guest caster, read this comment below: "Oh? This is actually ok. Oh? This is actually good for Zanster. ZANSTER's macro is ACTUALLY perfect. Oh? Honestly this was not a waste..." (copied from 나기원).

Man, most foreign players handle themselves like a CPU when playing late game. Completely outmatched with stupid piece meal attacks.

These are the first games I have watched from Zanster, and I gotta say, i'm not sure how he even made it, all his qualifiers must have been less than 8 minutes, because his "late" game understanding is really bad.
@JavierBacon6 жыл бұрын
But he's good at getting to late game, which is the first step. I mean, come on, you saw his games against Maru right? That was MARU!
@amai23076 жыл бұрын
JavierBacon you can't prepare for random noname, but random noname can prepare for you, that's why he didn't die to Maru, but his macro was just bad.
@JavierBacon6 жыл бұрын
Sure he prepared for Maru, but everyone that plays Maru prepares and few are that successful even in the early game.

This new caster needs to learn to be objective. You’re casting, not rooting for your friend. Cast the game properly chubs
@PerfectMarketingNow6 жыл бұрын
He's more of a guest than a caster. I mean he's a progamer and has been on GSL, it's cool to see his insights.
@tomdoden27416 жыл бұрын
True, he really knows his stuff. But it is also true that he could take a more neutral side. You're still casting, even though just as a guest.
@waytooaverage6 жыл бұрын
I disagree, personally I think attempts to stay completely 'objective' during a cast are boring and a little unnatural. Particularly when one of the players is a clear underdog. It would be even more straining to try and stay perfectly objective when a player's coach is casting, instead, it's a fairly unique opportunity to get a point of view you wouldn't normally in the GSL casts.
@tomdoden27416 жыл бұрын
I agree, I never said that caster have to stay objective. Of course they can favor one of the players, which can give us different and deeper insight into different aspects of the game and the players. I personally think though that some of the comments in the last game were a little bit too harsh. I can understand that Pro-players have to make as few mistakes as possible, but he is human after all so you shouldn't go too hard on him if he does, which I think No Regret did. You also have to consider that his comments have certain effects on the viewer, which is why you shouldn't side with one player too much I guess. I guess I don't even care that much anyways, but whatever. Sorry if this sounds weird in some way, but English isn't my main language.

It's not just No Regret. Artosis and Tasteless regularly take the stance of rooting for the foreign player when it's a foreigner vs a Korean. I don't have a problem with that, it's in everyone's best interest to get more non-Korean players playing at the level that we regularly see in GSL in order to make global starcraft tournaments as well as GSL more exciting. I can understand wanting them to be objective, but I don't mind them having opinions. And they've gone over the strategies of the Korean players so much in the past, there's a lot more to talk about when it comes to how foreigners can adapt in order to be more competitive. Just don't pin it on No Regret alone. Yes, they're from the same team house, but tastosis already established the "root for the foreigner" thing in other casts.
