Best in this class. Bought my Kona Limited 5 days ago and I'm really happy I did. Tested the rest in class vehicles and this blows them away in performance, features, style(subjective) and price!!! This is a mean little SUV in all respects.

This is a lifestyle vehicle like a Honda Element to me that’s fun cheap and cheerful active lifestyle. I love the design (and no I didn’t like the juke) and I love how there’s a green color (which you can get body color accents btw) and have some fun driving it with the turbo and dct

I love this car (CUV) and want to buy one. There's just one problem. I want to buy the Ultimate trim level and I want to add the black roof option. Why is this not allowed in the US? I'm pretty sure that it is allowed in some other markets.

Great Review, with many important technical and practical points. Well Done Indeed. Glad to learn about the steel features of the SUV. The Kona has a ton of great features (in the Ultimate model: Ultimate 1.6T DCT AWD) all packaged together. I like the size, the engine power (turbo) and economy (4 cylinders), and of course, the Sun Roof! How fun is that! I should buy one and drive in on Kona (we were there just a few months ago; wish I had been driving the Kona!). Looking forward to Part 2 Video. Thanks!!

Not a fan of the baby SUV's. I paid less than 30k for my 2.0T santa fe sport. I would, however, definitely consider the 2019 santa fe. It looks like an improvement over the model I have in just about every way.

In response to your question, I recently traded my 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport CUV for a 2018 Civic Hatchback Sport in an effort to retain practicality but more importantly lower my fuel costs. While the Civic is smaller, I find that it suits my needs very well with its ample storage and hatch access. The Santa Fe had about 35 cu. ft. behind the second row, the Kona has 19 cu. ft. while my Civic has 26 cu. ft so the sacrifice of storage for a more fuel efficient vehicle was worth it for me (Avg of 24 mpg for the Hyundai and 38 mpg for the Honda). I installed an aftermarket Yakima roof rack for my mountain bike and will perhaps add a cargo box for my outdoor gear but for now I am good. Seems like hatchbacks are making a come back and manufacturers are taking note, look at Toyota's newly unveiled Corolla hatch. Cheers!

@Jorge you said making a come back but to me they never left. All these dam CUV or Sub-compact \suv are just hatch backs with a new name. I doubt anybody could seriously take these things off road.

Cross trek has better cargo and rear seat space. Head room about the same. I think the Kona sits the driver higher but the Crosstrek has better ground clearance. Kona is faster and corners better. Crosstrek is probably the better utility and off road car, Kona is more fun to drive on the road (with the 1.6t). I went with the Kona LTD.

When I went to see the Kona at my Hyundai dealer was very excited but when the salesman show me the one was just arrive being very disappoint. Don't have any extra electric sit and another future like later the others arrive has. And I end to get out from there with another car. I you don't have everything ready to show at your clients do not put any new cars for sell so you let customers desire what ever they needs.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to pay for higher trims when you can get so much more car for just 3-4 thousand more EXCEPT if you live in a city where parking is very tight (check) and in a country where carbon taxes are set to explode in the near future (check), SO these are the reasons I am considering it... and yeah, it looks good, but so does a mini Cooper or Fiat if price is no object.

I like it but the VW golf sportwagen looks like the better buy. More room, better driving dynamics. About same powertrain specs .... the VW should be on everybody shopping list when in the market for this type of vehicle. The Subaru crosstrek is another good choice but the powertrain doesn't appeal to me. Not a big CVT fan. Engine also low on power.

I'm not a big car person but when did we get to a place where a "small" cheap" car is $20,000+ with mostly plastic everywhere? Oh and pick up trucks are $35k-65k! are you kidding me? did we all get raises or or win lotto? I don't get it. We keep getting less and less, yet pay more and more and it becomes acceptable. WTF!

I am not a fan of the Kona's side cladding, almost reminiscent of Honda's shoebox or the Aztec. The interior is pedestrian at best, which is a shame, because I love the Santa Fe. I believe Hyundai group is the next big thing and are turning out progressively higher quality cars with interesting designs in sharp contrast to the cookie cutter offerings from Ford. While the next phase in the extinction of the sedan may well be the cute ute, I am determined to fight tooth and tire against it. However it does look better than that ikea box on wheels, the Jeep Renegade. At this price point, About 20k, It would be a toss up between the CX 3 and the Kona.

What I'm excited for is the EV version of this that they promise veeery good range, "Tesla killer!" ;) No but seriously, like 550 km's of range, that will most likely not be realistic in the real world, but if it manages 450 km's thats pretty darn good. That said, we'll probably see many similar jumps in the coming 2 years. Right now I cant think of a single car out side of a Tesla P100D that has that kind of range in the EV segment. I'm looking for a good family EV and none of them on offer now is appealing enough. And a Tesla is way too much money for the average person. Buying a diesel today would be very stupid (sad to say), and unless you absolutly have to have the extra flexibility of a gas powered car I'd go EV today if it can do what they promise this one will do.

OK review... You spend about half of your review on non important things ....i.e painted panels/ heads up display size and location etc....is this what modern car reviews are going to....less about the car but more about technology and features ....how about spending more time on driving dynamics...engine performance... Road feel etc....seems like this is being lost lately with some reviewers ....

Copied the old jeep design
