Installing the Trask intake on the Bobber. All in all took about 3-4 hours. Basic hand tools required. Instructions were very good and helpful.
Here are some torque specs you will need.
*tank bolts - 18 ft/lbs
*frame tube through bolt- 35 ft/lbs
*frame tube rear bolts - 35 ft/lbs
*fame tube lower painted bolt - 19 ft/lbs

Thanks for the video, very helpful. If you don’t have a center stand, I used ratchet straps suspended from rafters in my buddy’s garage to lift the front of the bike up, then I used a jack to lift the engine. Ratchet straps kept the bike from tipping over. I’m not handy at all but that worked! Also, the bike makes a lot more noise after the install. Don’t be alarmed!

Vaclav Dostal if you have both an intake and an exhaust. You really should have the bike tuned. A proper tune will have the bike running so much better with a bunch more power. So glad the video worked out for you! Thanks for checking it out.

I have a full motorcycle lift now. But at the time it was a motorcycle/arc lift from Canadian tire. I’m sure harbour freight or any other auto parts store would have them. Works well with the scouts as there is no frame rails to worry about. Just lift at the bottom of the motor. It’s a stressed member.

@jay_fast
@jay_fast Жыл бұрын
You can put a Jack underneath the motor and lift or lower slightly to realign the bolt holes. Just be careful not to cross thread. The motor and frame are aluminum. The motor is what’s considered a stressed member. We don’t have a traditional frame. The motor is part of the frame. You haven’t wrecked anything.

Joe Davis I rode for a bit without a tune. I have already installed the exhaust and since tossed a tune on. Don’t hold me to it but I’ve seen guys run exhaust with no tune. Intake with no tune. But if you run both you need a tune. With exhaust/intake and tune you will hit 100hp at the wheel. This bone stock was 76hp or something? I have a video of the stock dyno run.

Thanks for the helpful video, now I know what to look for when I tackle this job..after u installed the filter did u have to get the bike tuned? Or does the bike ride fine the way it is..
@jay_fast
@jay_fast 6 жыл бұрын
xbigdaddy77x I bought intake/exhaust/tuner all at once. So I didn’t get much time riding in. I did ride after doing the intake a few times and it seemed fine. But a week later I did the exhaust and the tuner at once. From what I’ve read it seams like you are fine with one mod. Either intake or exhaust and no tune. But not both. If you do run into a lean situation your ecu will trip a code. Talking to a guy on instagram she said he threw a code on his wife’s bobber after a slip on install. Code was for a lean condition. But then if you follow Brandon bicasso. He had slip ons with no issue. I think if you want to mod your bikes power level. Sooner or later you will need a tune.

@@jay_fast I just got a 2019 Indian bobber and it came with a twr (two brother racing) 2 to 1 exhaust with a tier 1 tuner on it (this all came on the bike). I got the bike brand new and only had 243 miles on the bike and already put 6 full tanks of gas and had to go back to the dealership and I and after the service dept manager tried to bs me saying the bike should only get 70 miles to a full tank, due to the curve of the tank and the half gallon of gas that is forward of the fuel pump in the curve....they ended working on it and up putting on the receipt... "tier 1 tuner is not designed to change large increments of fuel map. Flashed unit with stage 1 Indian Map. Tier 1 tuner will fine tune from there." So basically they nevered programmed the computer on the bike correctly and the tuner was just throwing fuel into the motor. Just a heads up I spoke with a Indian service dept in a different city and was told.. that it sounds like the dealership i got it from voided the Indian factory warranty when they put the aftermarket tuner and exhaust on because anything that changes the air gas mixture or exhaust on the bike voids Indian warranty on the drivetrain... have you had any problems or information regarding this?? I ask because I want to go ahead and do my air intake...and I was wondering about the tuner if you or anyone would know if I am going to need to go back to the dealership for it to be programmed for the air intake. Or not, the company tier 1 tuner is advertising saying it doesn't need human mapping put into it that it does it automatically.... self contained....thank you in advance and sorry for the long book for the post.

justin williams hit my up on Instagram DM @jay_fast. We can go more in depth there. I am no expert. Everything I’ve learnt has either been through research or personal experience. In my experience. My local dealer has had zero issues with my bike and warrenty. I’ve sent it back for a few leaks and such. I made videos on both those. I modded my bike at 800km. Intake,tune and exhaust. I’ve never had a dealer issue where they wouldn’t warrenty anything. Secondly. Your bike is still breaking in. Mileage will get better. You should get 100-120 miles to tank all day long. A tune in its self will not increase mileage. What it may do is correct a fuel curve on a bike that’s running unnecessarily rich. By optimizing the fuel let’s say you pick up 5% fuel economy. Well on a 100mile range 5% is 5 miles on a tank. Hardly noticeable. In my opinion. Now. The Indian tunes are garbage. It’s a canned tune meant to meet most needs. Thus it’s a very mild tune meant for all bikes. It’s basically adding more fuel because you are able to bring more air in with the intake and expell that air easier with an exhaust. All the tuner does is allow you to write that tune to your ecu. Not all tuners are the same. I think the best tuner for the scout is the pvcx. It will allow you to actually write the tune directly to the ecu vs just tricking the ecu by modifying input signals from certain sensors like a EJK tuner that has to stay on the bike. If you truely want the most from your bike. You will want an intake, exhaust and either a custom tune from a local dyno shop or a tune from fuel moto. My preference is a local dyno shop. Assuming they are competent enough. They will tune your bike. To your setup. With gas local to you. At your elevation. This all maters. All said and done you should see 97hp and 71ft/lbs to the wheel. Give or take a few. Even fuel moto who has a great reputation tuning the scouts. They are 800ft ish above sea level. This will effect the tube as your air density may be different if you are in higher country.

Why would you remove a forced air induction system for this type of filter being used? I would have kept the air box, and installed a K/N air filter..... Just my 2 cents.....,.
@jay_fast
@jay_fast 5 жыл бұрын
S S well. It’s def not forced air. Ram air maybe. Most cars are designed that way. Have a scoop behind a headlight. Or in a fender well. The scoop for the stock air box is behind the rad. So all that hot air after it’s passed through the rad is being picked up by the stock intake. Plus the stock intake has some restrictions in it. Baffling, ect to eliminate intake noise. For me. It’s the better kit. Plus. That intake noise! 😍

thats whats up! I been thinking of doing it to my scout 60. I already have a freedom performance 2 to 1 exhaust and I was wondering if it's safe to ride maybe 30 miles to the dealer for without a tune?
@jay_fast
@jay_fast 6 жыл бұрын
bjorn villaester loaded question. Yes and no. The bike may or may not ride poorly. The bike will probably suffer from a lean condition and ping. Will probably toss a code. You’d probably be fine if you took it easy. But a motor in a lean condition is just asking for trouble. Be cautious. And yes. Do the intake!!

RedPillFreedom that seems weird. I know the two little tabs on the back of the seat that slip under the rear fender. I’ve had wiring that kinda blocked the path of those tabs before. Make sure that’s clear. Make sure the seat is seated all the way rearward. And it should just be a push down. It’s a ball and socket design. Unless your the socket part of your seat is damaged? Do the two at least line up when you go to push it down?

Does it make much of a difference to the power you get, aside from what it says you get? Do you feel the difference? Worth the cost/hassle?
@jay_fast
@jay_fast 6 жыл бұрын
Photo Biker tough to say. I did everything pretty closely together. I did do a small grocery run after I did the Intake back in December. There is substantially more intake noise. Which I find pleasurable. It’s one of the power triangles. Exhaust gets more air out. Intake gets more air in. And the controller gets more fuel. An intake is definitely the cheapest power adder of the 3. I like to say I feel a difference but can’t say for sure. I 100% feel a difference with all three done! I will say though that a stock bike is very smooth and poise. With the intake,exhaust and tune. It’s a rumbling, vibrating, snarling beast. Not so smooth and poised now.
@photobiker4309
@photobiker4309 6 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. :-) For me, I think it already has plenty of power. My biggest issue is the ride, not the power. It may be something I can consider down the line, once I get the engine broken in. My next though for mods would be shocks and suspension, to smooth out the ride a bit. It needs something for the damn potholes and speed ramps around this place.
