We just finished a round trip from Florida to Pennsylvania and back in less than two days driving a 2019 Isuzu XD Turbo diesel. Ours was not governed and would cruise at 80mph plus if needed. If you want to get somewhere fast, then this is a great choice.

I just rented a Hino 16ft box truck. It’s got a 5cyl turbo diesel, limited to 74mph. It’s very peppy, fun to drive. Diesel noise is fantastic, and bouncing out of your seat on bumpy roads is hilarious. I believe the rental companies de-tune them and limit their top speed for obvious reasons. If you can get one without the restrictions, they’d be a great truck to have.

I’ve owned and driven NPR’s and Fuso’s. The Fuso chassis is superior, much better driving and riding dynamics. And not nearly as sketchy when the road surface wants to toss you around, and all around handles better. Brakes are also much better on the Fuso. Had a rental NPR after driving my Fuso a couple of years, and had a Oh crap moment pulling up to a stoplight when first driving it. Didn’t know if I was gonna stop in time. That was a gas NPR, so I’m sure the diesel exhaust brake helps. But regular brakes comparison isn’t close. Disappointed Fuso is pulling out of the US, but I guess they just didn’t have the sales to justify staying. Now every brand cab over is going to be an Isuzu clone. Even heard Hino got in emissions trouble and is going to switch to an Isuzu clone for that class truck. But Fuso’s worst problem was that their diesel emissions system are a nightmare for repairs. I personally just traded in my diesel Fuso for a gas one. Couldn’t stomach any more emissions repairs (plus tow and rental truck costs - goes into limp mode and dealer is always backlogged), and wanted to get a gas one before they’re gone. The last 2 years I spent more in emissions repairs than my fuel savings vs gas (drive 20k miles a year). Truck only had 85k miles, but emissions warranty ends at 50k. 10 mpg Fuso diesel, 7 mpg NPR gas is what I have averaged. Diesel is usually about 40-50 cents more a gallon near me. Plus oil changes (with fuel filter) are twice as much on diesel, and have to change the PCV filter regularly. And the Fuso 3.0 turbo diesel is underpowered for hilly freeway speeds. Fuso gas engine is the same 6.0 GM as Isuzu. Chassis is made by Freightliner. Allison 1000 transmission (5 year unlimited mile warranty). Superior brakes. Mine is a FE180 (Class 5 - 17,995 GVWR). 10 free oil changes and owned by Daimler so all warranties honored and dealer service available.

I drive a 2023 NPR HD with the new 6.6L gas and I love it. For 2023 they now have disk brakes front and rear and changed the interior a bit. I've never driven a Fuso so I can't speak on the driving dynamics, but I don't think it wins in the brake department anymore considering the Fuso only came with rear drums.

I use to drive for United van lines in California and they had one . I was assigned to that one and at first I felt degraded because I was use to the big tractors but after driving it I was amazed at the power and ease of pulling a 48 foot trailer from San Diego - San Francisco and over Conejo Grade , the Grape Vine etc ...I never felt like it was struggling to keep the trailer under control and a lot of times I had 21,000 lbs plus trailer weight . It was so comfortable and quiet that it was hard to believe it was a small tractor and I didn’t have to yell to talk to my helpers. I live in Missouri now and plan on getting one for my dump business dropping off dump containers . Right now I’m using my pickup and a dump trailer . Can’t wait , maybe in a few weeks Yahoo!

Sounds like a Detroit DD5 but with a better turbo whistle and more grunt. One of the best sounding 4 cylinder diesel engines. I driven a HINO with a j08E governed at 74 mph but those Japanese diesels are crazy reliable. If you think Cummins is the most reliable, Isuzu and Toyota Group will prove you wrong. School buses in Japan are powered by a 4-ish liter 4-cylinder diesel engine and they are faster than American school buses and look nicer too.
@shannoncrawford7212
@shannoncrawford7212 3 жыл бұрын
How does the emission system hold up on the diesel. That seems to be a common theme in the gas vs diesel debate for almost all manufacturers. Emissions seem to be making it harder and harder to justify diesel unless you are driving OTR type miles and really racking them up where the fuel savings really compounds, or hauling extremely heavy loads where the available gas engine just isn’t powerful enough. When you factor in the extra cost per gallon of fuel, extra maintenance costs, higher initial purchase price, and the wild card is emission repairs. For a lot of people they just don’t drive enough miles or haul heavy enough loads to be able justify diesel or make it a financially beneficial trade-off. And in this truck specifically, if it does require a pile of money to be thrown at emissions to see the engine through its entire life. You could probably replace the 6.0 gas when it dies for cheaper than all the emission repair bills, and get the same or more miles out of 2 gas engines for less money. 300k miles on a Diesel engine might be easy, but most diesel emission systems are going to need a lot of attention (if not completely replaced) in that time.

Update. Now at 105,000 miles. Needs either injectors or new ecm and it’s about $5700. Tech hasn’t been able to determine which is causing the problem. Yes it’s an Isuzu tech and they have Isuzu software IDS. $8000 in repairs this year and it’s barely March. I’m so over this truck. Currently looking at GMC Savanna 6.0. I’ll be in debt again but at least I’ll be able to get to work and start making money.

If it doesn't do much then it needs changing, that's the type of aux brake that most other trucks in our part of the world get and it does work to some extent but mostly if it's manual which yours isn't hence why you don't feel like it works.

@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 6 жыл бұрын
These trucks are fun to drive, and I enjoy the challenge! I wouldn't necessarily say one is better than the other. But a lot of it has to do with personal preference. I have driven all the trucks you listed except the Hino (I'm working on getting one). Of those you listed my personal favorite to drive is the Freightliner. My least favorite are the Fords, and the others fit somewhere in between. I will say I haven't driven an Isuzu FTR yet, which better match up to those other trucks. I was shocked this Isuzu was as quiet as it was. The older 1999 Isuzu I was always in was way louder and you couldn't hold a conversation inside of it, so I'm glad they got the noise down. Thanks for watching and keep an eye out for some more videos of this truck coming up!

@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 6 жыл бұрын
A CDL is only required if its rated weight is over 26,000lbs or its carrying more than 15 passengers. And air brake endorsement is only required if the vehicle is over 26,000lbs. Most of the trucks in my videos are rated to 25,999lbs and have air brakes, so since its below the 26,000 lbs you do not need a CDL or air brake endorsement to drive it. Anyone with a regular license can drive them, not that I would trust anyone behind the wheel of one. Its kind of an odd loop hole! The CDL and non-CDL box trucks are identical except that the data plate on one says 25,999 and the other says something over like 33,000lbs. Where it gets really weird is registering things as a personal RV, which excepts you from the need for a CDL for those big bus like RVs because you are using it personally and not commercially.

@crazyjdkid
@crazyjdkid 6 жыл бұрын
This truck isn't even close to needing a CDL. All the trucks on my channel do not need a CDL! You just need to go to your local Ryder center and rent one. Be forewarned though Ryder has recently implemented a rule were the deposit it a week of rental and insurance, so it will be in excess of $1,000 but you will get that back. Otherwise, they are fun to drive, definitely a different driving experience

Lots of practicality but sounds like a toyota corolla until the engine fan kicks on

Your video subject was fine... holding the camera, swinging it back-and-forth as much as you did... Was it mounted on your head ..? I don’t know, it got me dizzy I couldn’t watch More than four minutes... LoL

Nissan cabstar or Renault Maxity 2.5 are more comfortable and faster than the Isuzu .Give it a try and reply me

Those trucks are not available in the US. As far as cab overs go all we have is Izusu, Hino, UD and Fuso. The later 3 cabovers aren't too common.

This engine doesn't have too much to do with the Duramax. This engine is a bit more robust and has a longer design life the the 6.6L Duramax.

I only gave it thumbs down for the fact those trucks suck. I would not go long distance in one. It bad if you are tall. I'll agree plenty of power. In town delivery only.

My comment is based on experience. With a older model. Maybe newer are better? I prefer a full size truck. Power. Comphort. Ability.
