All the haters on here that cant afford one and have never seen one in real life or driven one, its an awesome car. I have a 2018 and I get loads of comments. I cannot take it out without someone saying beautiful car, or nice car. I have had people filming me and taking pictures when driving. Its not as exotic as a ferrari but its still a real head turner and it will blow most other cars off the road unless your driving something really high end. It very sporty with the top down and in sport plus or drives like a coupe with its hard top up and in comfort mode. Not many cars can do this as well as a SL, and it fits you even if your well over 6' tall.

The SL used to look special and unique (1954-2002). Now it looks just like every other Mercedes coupe/convertible, and with the addition of the S class coupe, convertible, and the AMG GT roadster, I don't see its purpose.

1. The front looks like a Sedan (gholly that is supposed to be a low car). 2. When inside, feels like you're stuck in a tin box, it's almost SLK-like. 3. The rear waistline isn't very good, except with top down. The R129 gives a much better feeling in all three respects, and the rear jumpseats are usable on short trips. The only bearable recent SLs are the R230 (first series). It's a shame, as the technology in the R231 is superb, it's just that the looks are not up to it.

I love this car. Yes the design could be better. My friend has 2017 sl 500 , plenty of torque and fun to drive. I am thinking to trade in my 2018 e400 for a sl500. Cheers

Mercedes really should update the SL. The exterior looks a bit better than the previous model, but the interior is as dated as fuck. I see absolutely no point of buying this car because now we have the S class coupe, which looks better and is much newer and technologically advanced than the SL.

First of all you need to explain how the SL is the best car Mercedes makes because that is a very ambitious statement. Secondly the technology in the SL gets trickled down from the S class and it doesn't even have many features that S classes have for example cabin ionization, energizing comfort, wireless charging, Burmeister audio which is better than Harman Kardon or Bang & Olufsen (I experienced all of them), I would be very surprised if it had massaging seats or good quality 360 degree camera. That's just to name a few features. In terms of luxury the SL and S class are just night and day. In my opinion the interior looks bad, but again its because the car was released earlier in 2012. Don't see how S class has a cheaper interior because real gauges cost Mercedes like $5 to make when the displays are probably $350 cause they are HD. I totally understand if you like the SL, but today if you're in the market for a car in that price category, buying the doesn't make much sense.

First you were saying that "Nothing is dated in the SL" Technology is there, everything you want" now you're saying that those things don't matter. If i'm paying $160K+ for a car I want it to have the newest possible features even if they're gimicky. If you're gonna call the SL63 a supercar then a S63 is even more of a supercar because the acceleration is 3.5 seconds, which is .5 seconds quicker than the SL. A sound system is highly subjective to taste, but I heard the Harman Kardon many times in a 221 S class and B&O in a GL and I hear Burmester in 222 S class and S63 coupe almost every day and think it's better. Don't be silly, the guages that they use are plastic, they even squeak sometimes when you touch the silver ovals. The cluster which you are talking about for the SL can be bought for $200 the 222 display will cost you $1K+. Don't know why you looked up the 221. 222 is actually built very well, my family has had one for almost 2 years and no faults or complaints at all. It's the best luxury sedan in between its competitors. Again the looks are subject to taste so can't really argue that. I don't have any experience with the W140, but it looks good and I definitely want to drive one.

It’s like they can smell it. I just LOVE Gorgeous High Performance, High Class Cars. I picked an SL63 Over a Loaded C8 Corvette, as Yes, its Fast, High Performance, but it’s STILL A CHEVY!! I couldn’t get an order date for the New 22’ SL63 AMG which is taking over for The Mercedes AMG GTC AND THE COMPLETE AMG GT SERIES. Not to get off this Beauty, but the 21 Mercedes EQUUS is to take the place of the S class & looks Absolutely,Insanely Gorgeous, and w Electric motors it CAN be configured for 1000hp!!! Save your $$

The interiors of the SL, GLE, GLS are really dated now compared to rest of the Merc line up. Also with the S Class Cabrio and AMG GTC Roadster out, I don't know why anyone would be this dated SL over either of those models.

My neighbor has a 2018 SL65 AMG. It's awesome. But I hate when he starts it up. It's crazy loud. I'm glad it's not his daily driver. So I only hear it maybe once a week. I can't complain. I start up my vintage race cars a lot more that he starts his new car.

I will agree that the 09,s did look more like a muscle car. They went more of the elegant route with this one. I hated the newer body styles at first but they are nice. But I do agree they really captured what a SL should look like with the 09’s and 10’s

The rear of the sl is such lazy design, minimal changes for years, the car needs major revamping. Such a shame because this car was once really desirable, i remember the in early noughties the baby blue sl55 was a beauty, sadly it has not aged as well as its stable mates.
