First off, you didn't request a 2 week vacation. I always look forward to your reviews. A Shootdown review is still needed as since I'm a proud new owner of one. Took possession of it last week. And as far as cheap hats go, I think PSE has the market cornered on that. Thanks for all your knowledge you share.

Yes - the Obsession hat is not much better - Darton has a bad hat too. I have actually filmed the Decut Rhino recurve twice - stuffed the sound each time. I have a Shootdown in stock too. I have been shooting trying to improve. But struggling.

As a PSE owner with bow press (I didn't use it yet) I would love to see video from you on how to press PSE bows without damaging limbs.
@ArcherySuppliesLonsdale6 жыл бұрын
I think I will do one. You need a bow press which presses from the limb tips. So the EZ Press. You need this press as it presses the entire length of the limb. The limbs should be wound out before pressing. Then only press the limbs just enough to get the strings on and off. If you press the bow with a press which does not press the limbs at the limb tips you run a huge chance of creating pressure cracks. I would also say it is normally 70# fully wound up where I have problems because the limbs are already under the most pressure.

That is a good news! I have EZ Green Press from LCA and my bow is 60# :) Looking forward to video

Should be fine - just be careful. Dont over press the bow and you will be fine.
@simonhooper24586 жыл бұрын
X press pro and Specialty press should work as well. In fact even better than an ez press as they press the tip but also don't put any pressure down the length of the limb. ;)

I have had people break bows in them so be careful. One dealer broke a customers bow in one. She closed the shop shortly after as it was all to hard for the money. Cost her over 1000 for the mistake.

The pegs on the cams are meant to prevent locking up the cams if you draw it accidently without the limb stop installed or the limb stop was installed incorrectly.

I'm kinda sad to hear you don't have Bowtech. I recently went from a $1700 bow from another company to a Diamond (by Bowtech) Medalist 38 for $800 CAD (Which is on par with AUD). It is an amazing target bow. Is dead in the hand, and very forgiving. If you get an opportunity to get your hands on one, do it. I believe that you would be amazed at how well an $800 target bow can shoot.

Some Final Cut shooters have dealt with cable arm contact. They all end up reducing the cable spacing which if you run smaller vanes like Bohning Air vanes will be a non issue. You can reduce it by swapping out the slides for a roller system like the pse which gives better arm clearance and makes the draw smoother & can gain speed. Most common is the roller system with angled cable rods that start at factory width at brace but angle in quite a bit at full draw, as the cable to arm contact rule only applies at full draw not at brace. Also at full draw it doesn't matter if the cables are almost touching the shaft as they will move out of the way as the cable moves forward through the shot cycle, just as long as the cable rod has fletch clearance, which if you use a roller slide which brings in the cables over standard you don't need to angle the rods as much. The fact that it uses a cable slide option rather than spreaders means it is the only shoot through cable system that allows you to tune for arrow clearance at brace & arm clearance at full draw, the lack of angled or tunable angle cable rods seems like a big oversight to me as it could be used as a sales pitch that cures a problem that many current shoot through shooters face or stops thhose on the fence with money on hand buying their product over something else tbh I love shoot through cable bows, I just wish Obsession made the final cut in a larger axl to axl, it's just too short for me :( Also I do wish that companies that make a true asymmetric would make it with a left and right handed side plate. This would add little to no cost but would ensure correct hand placement with the finger and thumb groove. Alternatively but probably more expensive, a removable left or right handed grip. The bow company that does this has pretty much manufactured out every issue/non issue that archers complain about. Small expenditure to produce a marketing dream imho

On a side note on the roller slide and angled rods their is a couple of things tuning wise that can be helpful when doing this to any style of compound bow as I have played with this on several bows in the past. My first advice before making any changes is measure the axl to axl at brace & then put it in a draw board & measure the axl to axl at FULL DRAW. The full draw measurement is the one that matters the most! Also measure peak poundage & let off poundage with a bow scale. If changing a slide to a roller slide or another brand of slide that brings your cable in closer, it will take pressure off of the cable system so you will need to add 1/2 a twist or more to the cable to get it back to spec. When adding an angled rod it can be a little tricky and this is where the ata at full draw matters to get the best performance. With an angled rod the cable tension decreases its side load as the cable limb load builds as you draw. So attach the angled cable rod set up & measure the ata at brace to see if there is a change, then draw the bow in a draw board and see if it reaches the same deflection ata. It will generally come up with a longer axl to axl at full draw. Twist the cables & re check at full draw until you reach the same full draw deflection. Check poundage, timing & draw length. Make any minor tweaks to fit & write down all the new specs. If you write it all down it only needs to be set up once & from there you are good to go with a nicer shooting easier tuning bow. The only issue I had with an angled rod on a traditional compound design is if I made the angle too severe on the rod the cables can start to brush the outside of the cable/ limb stops on some bows as they rotate past. Always check clearances before firing ;)

Another worthy addition to your compound bow range, Steven. A club member here has a previous model Obsession bow & it is an attractive nicely engineered & manufactured bow. That Final Pro X is my pick, should be a beauty, particularly with those binary style cams. Personally, I can't see the benefit of the more expensive Final Cut, shoot through risers are losing their gimmick appeal.
@simonhooper24586 жыл бұрын
Gimmick? The final cut is a shoot through riser with a shoot through cable system, most forgiving tuneable system out there. Have you ever measured a non shoot through risers flex at full poundage. Some bows, especially those running a fixed non reverse roller system have an almost scary amount of flex. This causes all kinds of issues & makes arrow spine choice even more critical. If anything other than Mathews I am seeing more shoot through risers at target events not less where the manufacturer gives the option.
@kennethosborne64976 жыл бұрын
Really ? Prime, Mybo, Mathews, Elite , etc etc, all have top of range target bows that seem to manage world class scores without it . Shoot through risers are there for those who are convinced they offer a benefit. I've shot a damn lot of bows in all my archery years & have an opinion. Choices. Go for it if you believe.

I just got a Turmoil (not the RZ). It had tons of lean. My shop added 7 twists to the top cam and it paper tuned fine. I still have nock left on bareshafts. I'm interested to hear what they say about shim kits. I don't have a draw board so I don't know if they are leaning at full draw or not. But it is a real shooter. Super fast (350 IBO) and consistent.
@simonhooper24586 жыл бұрын
If you really want to know what your bow does regarding cam lean you need a draw board to check the bow at brace, full draw & peak poundage. Full draw is actually a blend of the 2 but depending on let off amount that ratio changes. That is why a flex guard works best in theory as it dynamically moves with the altering side load through the entire shot cycle ;)
@kyledavidson63726 жыл бұрын
Simon Hooper I completely agree it needs to be checked on a draw board. The lean on mine was pretty bad. I don't want to damage the strings or have derailment. If it shoots great, no problem with cable wear or derailment and has some lean that's cool with me.
@lstavenhagen6 жыл бұрын
whew, you had me kind of panicked there for a bit :). I have two Supra Max's (40lb limbs) that I bought new in 2014/15 and I press both all the time. I make my own strings and have pressed both bows a million times changing them out, tuning the bow etc. with no problems. I do have an EZ green press and I never press the bows with the limb bolts fully screwed in... But I guess I can see how the limbs could be broken if you used a press that presses from the center of the limbs or something like that....
@sahhull4 жыл бұрын
The info on pressing is in the info sheet and on the website. All bow manufacturers seem to have it. All you need to do is read it. Saves you killing the limbs

@pepekrozinek6 жыл бұрын
Steven what do people with their own bow presses do wrong?
@loki82846 жыл бұрын
Josef Rozinek my guess would be using a press that does not press the limbs at the tips, or not backing off the limb bolts before pressing (PSE recommends on their tags to back the limbs bolts out 6 turns before pressing.)
