2018 St. Louis Cigar Box Guitar Festival - with Justin Johnson at the Highway 61 Roadhouse

Saturday, June 2nd... Was the 6th annual St. Louis Cigar Box Guitar festival! Justin Johnson performed inside of the Highway 61 Roadhouse cafe.
Like every year, there was an incredible amount of great people, great food, and incredible music!!!!
The weather started off nasty, but things got better as the day progressed. Sit back, relax, and enjoy some of the good music I was able to capture on video!

Very cool footage! As much as i like the Justin Johnson stuff, i enjoyed the guys outside in the rain doing their thing! Really liked the one string cheesecake fire "gal" guitar. That heavy bassline sound really had me groovin! Yep... Diddley Bow in my near future lol. Thanks for making me feel like i was there John! Take care!

He using a damn full bottle a hot sauce playing that slide. Gotta say I've never seen that, how appropriate for a shovel guitar, playing blues . The trick is not to have it sounding like a Hawaiian balad, or a repetitive country whine, but my man does great usually. To take the simple licks or scale, and give it that real blues. That real soul and sound is difficult to accomplish. That's what the blues is all about. Many people can hit the licks or learn the chords, but not anybody can play the blues. That's why they are so special. When it's not authentic you can hear it rite away. It's just an affectation if it isn't genuine. Whether playing a homemade guitar or a thousand dollar custom made guitar, the blues can be imitated but never duplicated.
