2018 TF - CIF-ss FINALS - High Jump (Boys - D1)

Here is the Division 1 Boys High Jump from the 2018 CIF (Southern Section) Track and Field Finals meet held on May 19, 2018 at El Camino College in Torrance, California.
Commentary: Tonight we feature one of the most dominating Southern Section athletes of this era at his best. The State Champ is just a half-inch short of his PR in winning the D1 championship. Beyond Sean Lee, we also have Kevin Schmitt who is the second-best jumper in the Southern Section. And then there is that tight fight for third.

Ancient1341 PF sarcastic comment. He is barely jumping a few inches over his head. Nothing impressive here except the clearance height. It’s tantamount to a 6’8” dude dunking. More impressive when it’s a 6’ dunker

Luke Ferro it’s 6” first off , he is 6’8”. So jumping 6” over his head is impressive to you, what is Stephan Holms Jumping 22” over his head then? 😂🤷‍♂️

SaintsCheat he’s jumped 7’3” before, which is 7 inches. Yeah there are guys who have jumped higher differences over their head but regardless jumping this high in high school is pretty rare, and not many people can jump their own height, let alone an extra 7 inches

@Tyler Bush You are so wrong. Height is a significant advantage in the high jump. A 6'8" high jumper's center of gravity is naturally 4" higher off the ground than a 6'0" jumper. Nearly all world class high jumpers are well above 6'4". Stefan Holms (at 5'11") was an exception. If fact, he holds the world record for the highest clearance over his own height (23.5" - his PR is 7'10.5"). Your point that it is rare for a tall person to have the coordination to jump well is true, but that does not negate the advantage if they can.

So he jumped well👍 I jumped 9” over my head back in 1985 when I was 24 years old. My PR is 6’4” He’s 6’8” jumping a bit over 6” over his head. He has a much better PR. Does that make him the better jumper or is it the athlete who jumped more inches over their height that’s the better jumper? I bet there’s many differing opinions.

Guy I went to high school with was 5'2" tall and jumped 6'5". I think the wind blew him over the bar. He didn't weigh a lot either.
