2018 Toyota Tacoma Roof Rack Installation 3rd Gen

Installing a Toyota Tacoma roof rack is pretty easy. There are about 15 bolts all going into pre drilled holes right under the black weather stripping on the truck. I got my Roof Rack from the Toyota Dealership near me, but this one seems to be the same on Amazon: amzn.to/2rIljxm The one I got from the dealership was not perfect, and I had to push pretty hard on the passenger side to get the bolt holes to line up. But it all fell into place eventually.
If you are thinking about saving a few bucks and installing the roof rack on your toyota Tacoma, this might just be the video for you. See if you want to attempt the same roof rack installation on your own. This project took me about 45 minutes, because the passenger side wouldnt line up perfectly... but I eventually got the holes to line up with a little bit of force.

Keep it simple. I like that. After watching this video a few weeks ago, I ordered that rack...not because I needed a rack, but the dang rubber thing keeps coming off. I took it back to the dealer and waited 3 hours while they replaced it...and a week later both sides came off. so instead of fighting it, I’ll replace it with a rack today.

You know you really enjoy a content producer when you watch vids they make on another channel that has absolutely nothing to do with why you fell in love with their main channel in the first place... :P :D I am the farthest thing from a truck guy and I still enjoyed watching Zack install that rack like a boss. Not that I am any kind of handyman expert, but this sort of DIY is stuff I have done in the past with good [and FAIL] results. Interestingly, now that I am in Hong Kong, I am discovering that this whole concept of DIY is pretty much unheard of in this part of the world, largely because of the relatively cheap labor costs available all over in Asia. To me, this is a terrible thing in one major respect - you end up with a population that is incapable of doing even the most basic tasks for themselves. So sad but is why stores like Home Depot utterly fail in Hong Kong. ikea is really the only kind of DIY stuff that people in HK might even conceive of tackling. A bit harsh, but in many areas, Hong Kong is a land of helpless children.

Great Vid Man going to do this on my 2020 Desert Heads up hair dryer /heat gun on rubber removal will help double back tape release I would also put a little silicone on bolts going in.🤙🏼

On Jaguars and most German cars the roof rails are exposed by removing the plastic, just like you car interior it’s fixed in and you need to pull it off as it clips in, that’s why people likely use screw drivers as other manufacturers use better solutions. It can be clicked back in place if the roof rails are removed again also

@@ABayQuad I actually ended up doing it myself and it turned out well! I went overboard with sealant though as I didnt want anything to leak. I took the bolts and dipped them in the silicone (just the tip), and put sealant around the heads. Worked out well and no leaks! Except for the usual third brake light (unrelated though).

It's been awhile any issues with leaks? I just had to un install mine because of a leak, I just used rubber washers and silicon and hope that the issue goes away, great channel!

Hey, I installed this rack under the assumption that my Thule cargo box would fit, but nope. The bars are too spread out. Evidentially, Thule and Yakima do not make cargo boxes that will fit this rack system. Are you familiar with any that do? Or am I just up a creek? Thanks.

Okay I need some help! I know this video is a little old but I’m installing the same rack on my 2021. I ordered it OEM from a dealer near me and for some reason it arrived with none of the bolts or screws, so this had to be ordered separately. Everything has gone fine up until where I am at the last point: getting that hinge/pivot bolt installed. I cannot seem to figure that out. I think I may be missing a nut or bolt? There’s just no thread for the pivot bolt to fasten into and it stays loose. I am perplexed because no one seems to have this problem but I also think a piece could be missing.

Marco Monges Well because you increase height you definitely increase body roll, it won't feel less stable on straight aways but depending on how high you go it can reduce how sharp you "should" be turning at higher speeds especially.
