Historically, I've been a cruiser guy, however, over the past 2 years I've developed a strong liking for the Adventure segment. At 5' 6", I will have to opt for the 800. I'm in Central Texas, USA and we have GREAT terrain for off-road adventure trips.

Had my 1200 XRX for about 3 weeks now and I love it. Makes my old Tracer 700 seem like a toy bike. Does get a tad warm from the engine but not uncomfortably so and only noticeable when sitting still. Welcomed on colder days. This shares my garage with my 2015 Thunderbird Storm I bought in July. Gone from 2 Yamahas to 2 Triumphs in 2 months. Had I started watching reviews back in 2016 when I passed my test I probably would've bought Triumphs instead of the 2 Yammies but TBH I thought Triumph had gone bust. D'oh. Glad you're back and love your new bike.

Thank you Kevin! Awesome comment... I loved my thunderbird storm but I loved the throttle too much on it and as my only bike, hurt my back whilst hooning! :-) The 1200 engine is excellent... can feel a little heavy at low speeds but it's so nimble above even 10mph... Yes, I never noticed the heat on my testride as I never got stuck in traffic, or went slowly to be honest! Very comfortable and capable... You have a lovely pair there! Do you have the heated seats? I thought they were a gimmick but I had them on my 800 XRT and I used it all the time in the winter. Really kept my core warm... Anyway, thanks for watching, glad you love Triumphs as I'm quite the fan boy! Enjoy, ride safely and Tally Bally Ho!
@kevintaylor93305 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainRambunctious The heated seats were one of the things on the XRT I didn't want so I saved 2 grand and bought the XRX. With the heat coming off the engine, I think heated seats would be like a propeller on Concorde. lol

Glad to see you back Sir! Excellent review as always. I had the good fortune to borrow the same model for a day this weekend. Absolutely loved it! I have always been a bit skeptical about lots of toys on bikes but found that I got to use and enjoy most of the features the bike had. The heated seat, was an eye opener at 3 deg at night. Also the fog lights. This was the first quickshifter I have used, so now I am spoilt! Spent most of the time with the screen up & visor open, so comfy. Returned just over 48mpg. As you can probably tell I am quite taken with it and look forward to comparing it the new Tiger 800. Then bash the wallet! Oh, and I love the THRUST lever comment! !

Cappy, great intro! This is a smashingly good bike! Good looking too. The KTM looks to me like a postmodern design on a really bad acid trip. Plus every adventure I've watched: its the KTM that breaks down....ALWAYS. The BMW is a beauty too but this little bit of pure British kit is capital T! tasty and Triumph.

Thank you. Good point. Maybe it's just laziness, cost, weight, or maybe they are being more positive and allowing choice. So that at point of sale, you can choose which size you want? I love the look of these 1200s but I think my new 800 XRT is the sweet spot for me in terms of size. The 1200s are massive and for me frankly daunting just standing next to them. If I was a bit taller and stronger I’d probably get one!

Have an old Tiger that I've put 70k miles on that I still ride regularly... love the bike and will likely never sell it. Having said that... the Triple has always been very top heavy so I'm interested to hear that it feels lighter - it was IMO the biggest issue with the older Tiger's when ridden side by side with other ADV bikes. Watching the video however I already see something that would be a huge problem... motorized windscreen is a nice gizmo if it doesn't add weight... but the way that screen is vibrating all over the place would be a deal killer for me. It's right in your field of view. On my 955i the 'tall' windscreen moves a tiny bit and even that is noticeable, on my Multi and on GS's (which I rent when I'm in Germany) they don't move at all. People complain when a bike had vibey mirrors but a vibey windscreen is incredibly distracting.

I sat on one of these during an event, didn't get to ride it then unfortunately. The suspension seemed overly soft but I didn't know about the electronically adjustable suspension which is really cool. Can say the couple minutes I sat on it were very comfortable though. Made me question whether I want to get another Street Triple or a Tiger when it's time to retire my current bike.

It would be difficult. Would depend on how many miles and comfort versus fun. You can still have lots of fun on this. And extremely comfortable, the seat is memory foam type stuff... Thanks for watching!

There's usually a buzz around the 7-8000rpm range on these and again I didn't notice, so if there is, there isn't much and I was wearing gloves with thin palms... Look forward to Speed Master review. So heated seats and grips, fog lights, electric wind screen and suspension with cruise control sounds like touring bike, right? Here is my question which is really for Triumph, what kind of touring bike comes with all the stuff but no saddle bags? I'd rather have the bags for free and Triumph can keep the heated seats and key fob.

Nice review, nice jacket, nice bike. It may just pip the GS but not quite the KTM SA 1290 or SD GT. this video will certainly help me to decide. I will certainly test the tiger 1200, probably the XRT, the reason; we drive a lot into the mountains (Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland) and our backyard, the Belgian Ardennes. So the hill controll will certainly come in handy. And I prefer to see him in red ... ;-) Do you know how he drives with suitcases?

It seems the #1 complaint about this bike is the ridiculous amount of heat the engine throws onto your legs (and even arms I've heard). The Triumph dealer here gets new owners trading these 1200 Tiger's in around 500 miles after they buy them due to this problem.

I was looking at Triumph’s web site and correct me if I’m wrong but it looks like the bike needs a major service every 10000 miles... That seems really short. My Tenere was 26000 ( or around there ) and my current bmw is 18000. I was all excited about the update until I read this. Hopefully I’m incorrect...
@CaptainRambunctious6 жыл бұрын
That;s incorrect. The major service is every 20,000 miles and the oil service is at 10,000. It used to be oil at 6,000 and major at 12,000 but thankfully they've changed that to 10,000 and 20,000... Hope this helps...

Good to see you back CB, though I would have thought the GS TE would be the more direct comparison to the XRT as both are the more road biased models and with the TFT screen the GS TE is about the same price, but the beemer doesn't have the heated seats, electric screen or aux lights, but does have the sat nav prep. The GSA would be more like the XCa? Cheers
@TG-sf2dq6 жыл бұрын
Can it compete with the 1200GS?
@Bazza476 жыл бұрын
Peter Steele I guess that would depend on what you want as a bike. Just my opinion but the big dissadvantage the Tiger 1200 has is it's weight especially when moving it about as it's over 20kg heavier. Triumph would hope so though it looks like BMW are about to bring out a vvt version of the boxer engine that is rumoured to put out 150ps . Apparently BMW sell more GS's than Triumph sell motorcycles so I don't think they will be overly concerned though competition in this segment is fierce which is no bad thing for the riders looking for a new bike-if you can afford it.
