* sighs * I've never had such a love-hate relationship with a vehicle more than I do with the 2018/2019 Volkswagen (VW) Tiguan. I want to like it. I really do. But the negatives far outweigh the positives and prevent me from buying one until Volkswagen can get its act together and corrects some of its issues. -> [POSITIVES] 1) The VW Tiguan excels in and is class-leading in technology for non-luxury vehicles. Especially with its customizable digital cockpit. 2) The European design and look are very aesthetically pleasing and make the 2018/2019 Tiguan look and feel more like a high-end luxury vehicle. Everything is laid out intuitively is well designed with everything in reach. 3) The 6-Year/72,000 Bumper-to-Bumper warranty is fantastic. 4) Most VW dealerships and service shops tend to provide fantastic customer service and an exceptional experience. [NEGATIVES] 1) The third row on the Tiguan was an incredibly poor choice for a compact crossover SUV. It's such a small space that you'd have to be a tiny child to fit back there. It's absolutely NOT ideal for an adult (unless you want to be packed in like a sardine and develop severe neck, back, and knee issues). In addition, the third row eats up a large portion of the already small cargo space, and as a bonus, it reduces the vehicles overall MPG. 2) The Tiguan's est. MPG and Range are sub-par (24 Combined MPG, 15.9 Gallon Tank, Max Range: Approx. 381.60 Miles) compared to all of its other competitors in the Compact Crossover SUV market. 3) The Tiguan has lower Horsepower (184 hp @ 4400 rpm) and Torque (221 lb-ft @ 1600 rpm) than many of its other competitors in the Compact Crossover SUV market. 4) The U.S. Tiguan SEL Premium's 2.0L TSI®, 16-valve, DOHC, in-line 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is actually quite loud, making it sound like a Truck from the 2000’s. 5) 85% of all the premium trim Compact Crossover SUV's on the market have at least a 12-way power driver seat and a 3-way power front passenger seat. In addition, most competitors have front heated and ventilated seats. ...Not the U.S. VW Tiguan SEL Premium! The seats are heated only and the driver’s seat is a 3-way and the passenger seat is a manual. 6) The North American version of the VW Tiguan, the "SEL Premium," is far less premium than the European Tiguan SwissLine, the Tiguan All-Space and the Tiguan TSI R-Line. In fact, the U.S. version is missing out on the following that comes with the other models: power headlight cleaners, puddle lights, heads-up display, circular airbag housing on the R-Line with paddle shifters, closable storage compartment on the dash (looks like a speaker), illuminated door sills, 2nd-row temperature controls for the HVAC, 2nd-row seat-back tray tables with cup holder, 2nd-row heated seats, and 2nd-row reclining seats. 7) The U.S. Tiguan's LED Taillights are NOT multicolor or multifunctional, unlike the European models. You simply get red LED brake lights encased in a red plastic that use the same lights for the turn indicator and white LED reverse lights encased in white plastic. In addition, the U.S. version could not spare the extra expense to have LED fog lights and instead opted for traditional halogen. 8) For the price you pay ($42,000), the VW Tiguan's keyfob is surprisingly old school and lackluster in design and appearance. 9) There's currently an urgent recall on VW Airbags. If I had to compare what a VW Tiguan is like, it’s like any other hot model who has a sexy face and body, but this one is lacking in heart and intelligence. In short, if you want to drive a German vehicle, you are far better off getting a Mercedes-Benz, Audi, or BMW.

I agree, the front end looks fugly, just like the new Jetta front end. UGLY FUGLY headlights and grill. The sides and rear do appeal to me though. Underpowered, complete waste to have a non-functional 3rd row that even kinder cannot fit in. Very bad VW, they can do better. Hopefully they get a new designer and stop worrying out checking off boxes like "3rd row" when it makes no sense. Not being stoic and logical anymore for a German manufacturer.

I like my 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan S (4Motion). Ride is not very soft but this is the price you pay for better handling. It takes regular gas which is a big plus. I am consistently getting 25MPG on mix driving. One more thing, I didn't get the third row.

Does anyone use or enjoy the tap function on these new 8 speed transmissions? I loved the dual clutch SST on mitsu evos and ralliarts which were 6 speed and design wise, in your hand they still felt like you were driving a real manual and can still be quite fun(not as much as a real 6 speed but probably the most outside of that), but while I was driving a cross over suv with the auto 8 speed trans it sure felt pointless to try and navigate all those gears and just settled for the sport mode instead of doing any shifting myself. I just wonder if they really get any use by people who daily drive them and are used to manuals or fun dct transmissions.

@@karenazcarate9962 I don't believe they make a V8 Tiguan or even a V6. VW makes a SUV called the Atlas which uses a bigger engine. My Tiguan has a 4-cylinder, and its is good.

I wish they could have done a better job on the front; the light design kills it for me and pushes me toward the GSW-S w/4motion...even an Alltrack-S is more appealing than this 'pile'. Ditch the 3rd row and it's more in its element; 3 rows in this size is stupid. It also needs the 'bigger' 2.0t to give it an edge over the competition and give ppl a real reason to buy it; otherwise it just gets lost in all the CUVs that have btwn 170 & 190hp, which is ALL of them.

I'm sure it would be, are you familiar with a lot of VW cars? Has the overseas version of the Touareg always differed from the US version? I love the styling of the overseas version because the front side looks a lot more aggresive and it doesn't have that "beak" like appearance I see on the US ones but I'm confused if that is just some special edition version or is that how the all look outside the US...I wish I could buy the new Touareg that is going to china and russia, that thing looks 10 times better then the tiguan, IMO.

Do not buy the car. The ambient lighting on the panoramic roof catches fire!!!! They claim due to humidity. ??? They have yet to make it known to the public! Only current owners. I have nothing but problems with my panoramic roof since i bought the vehicle ?, now this. Ask ur dealer see what he tells u.
