When I listen to her I feel the same anguish that whenI see a giant python constricting a poor animal. It is technically very stressful to listen to Netrebko today. She had a lyric soprano that was rather large in size BUT still a lyric soprano. Why sing dramatic repertorio???

No this isn’t good. She will not be the dramatic soprano she is pushing to be. But in the end she’s doing what she wants despite the hate, and that’s her choice. Leontyne Price once said that God gave her only so many notes to sing. (in other words, pick your roles carefully). Sadly, Netrebko thinks she's doing justice this music; she's not. Moreover, like Fanculla, Turandot is a voice-wrecker. Netrebko has gotten some bad advice.

I spoke about her and where her career is headed with my teacher. My teacher said that she thinks that Netrebko might be thinking about retiring in the next few years and is indifferent about what might happen to her voice if she takes on these larger roles. I never thought about this theory, but it makes sense. She’s someone who has enough clout to sing whatever she wants in any opera house in the world (though some rep might not be a perfect fit for her voice).

Dreadful. Netrebko doesn't have the dramatic soprano voice to sing roles like Turandot. She's basically just shouting and screeching like a cat. Turandot should be sung by a big voiced soprano. The best Turandot's were Nilsson, Dimitrova, Marton, and the recording by Sutherland, which is fantastic.

Anna has a charisma that very few singers and performers have. When she sings, whether you like her or not, you're kinda drawn to her, it's impossible to look away. This is wrong for her and she probably knows it. But this is her attitude and I admire her for it, pursuing what she wants, singing what she wants, despite many of those choices being bad or unsuited. At the end of the day, she still is one of the great performers of this century.

Just saw Ms Netrebko at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Not only was the concert superb but had the honor of meeting this gracious lady. She was the kindest, caring most humble person I have ever met. She was gorgeous and every song she sang was perfection. Stand by my original comment...greatest opera singer in the world. People can love to hate her all they want, but at the end of the day, she sounds amazing, and she's sounded amazing for ages. She could probably sing Brünnhilde convincingly. Elle pousse en avant sa mâchoire, signe d'une mauvaise et dommageable technique (tension, forcing), croyant pouvoir jouer tous les rôles, à moins que sa voix ait réellement baissé avec l'âge et que ne pouvant l'accepter, elle pousse pour se donner des airs de mezzo. Elle va perdre définitivement sa voix, à moins qu'elle ne l'ait déjà perdue...
