Such exquisite trumpet work by Alba -- I guess we shouldn't even be surprised by now. Simply extraordinary. And how great is it to see Andrea, already a star in her own right, sitting in with the band, playing behind Alba. If there are any egos among Chamorro's past or present students, I haven't seen any sign of it!

chanelops I’m with you regarding Alba. I also really enjoy her vocals, a wonderful voice. I don’t recall her being featured on Trumpet in the past. She did a wonderful job on this song. Adding this to my favorites list. I always thought that the Alto Sax was Andria Motis’s better instrument great to see her and hear her in this arrangement. She has a spark and always catches my eye no matter what she is doing. Even when she is singing backup her voice and presence stands out. Joan just makes my head spin with his ability to train and nurture the outstanding young talent. Andra, Alba, Rita and more.

It is amazing that Joan Chamorro trained both Alba Armengou and Adrea Motis. Both exquisite singers, both very talented trumpet players. Last night I watched a more recent video of Andrea Motis with her own band and she was absolutely explosive on the trumpet. Kudos to Joan Chamorro for unlocking such amazing talent.

Sad ballad sung by Irene Dunn in the '30's movie Roberta. The grand old dame of the fashion world was experiencing fading health and Miss Dunn sang this piece as Roberta slipped away on her living room couch. Very sad song. Alba and the band capture it beautifully as an instrumental. Brilliant, and very emotional. Loved it!!!!!

These kids (I guess they're young adults by now) are so talented, it's insane. The girls all sing (in multiple languages) and all of them can play 2-4 instruments each (trumpet, alto sax, soprano sax, tenor sax, bari sax, violin, guitar, bass, drums, trombone, whatever), and perform jazz standards decades before their time. I watch current American "musicians" here, of any age, during the MTV awards and even the Grammys, and all I hear/see oftentimes is autotune, yelling, twerking, botched lyrics (in their own native English), lipsynching, just a mess (not to mention all the alcohol/drug abuse and other personal problems a lot of pop stars get into - some cases I'm sympathetic to, but not all), and I think to myself, these Sant Andreu kids are the real deal. They'll never get rich like the Rolling Stone/Billboard "stars" do, but I'll take their music any day over a lot of the garbage I hear on popular radio nowadays. Joan Chamorro ought to get an international music teaching award of some kind for all the young talent he has cultivated over the years.

Maybe it's the combination of singing and playing, but I'm so impressed by the clarion and yet warm tone that Joan's students manage to get on their instruments. Alba's tone is so beautiful-- somehow intimate without being at the same time fuzzy, a la Miles or Baker...

Les Walters Yes. I was lucky enough to come up in the 60’s in NYC. Saw the tail end of the big band period on 52nd St. the gold standard. But this jazz program in Barcelona is, as far as I can see, the best in the world. They pick winner after winner, nurture, train and release them into the world. Lucky us.

What a wonderful trumpet Alba has. It can talk about everything, joy and sorrow, hope and glory, but also grief and mistrust. Or is it the music of Jerome Kern?
