Ever looked at a marine radio and realized it's not far off the 1.5 DIN GM head units? I have. Here's how to make a Rockford Fosgate PMX-5 fit in a 90s Chevy/GMC dash. It's not easy. It's unorthodox, but it sounds FANTASTIC!

Cool video. I know it's been a few years, but in case you haven't been clued in, the wires aren't aluminum. They're tinned. It's a marine grade copper wire. The copper strands are coated in solder. Holds up much better than uncoated copper in the harsh marine environment. Particularly salt water. Cheers!

I struggled to get my double din in my dash. Not a lot of room back there. I want to do a double din in my 91. I used a dremel with a trim bit. Works really good in tight spots.

So with the 91 style dash, you have even less room. I would suggest looking at the PMX-3 I was talking about in the video. It would fit on the main dash, not the middle dash where the single DINs normally go, like I showed in the photo. It’s only $150. It’s a very basic media receiver normally installed in side by sides. Caveat with it is it HAS to be paired with an amp. It only has RCA outputs. A simple 4 channel would do the trick and would fit right under the passenger seat as I’ve done in mine. If you are looking for budget, basic quality, the Rockford Fosgate Prime series speakers and amps are nicely priced and still perform better than Pioneer and JVC amps. If you lived closer I’d gladly come help you do the install.

I want to put it in the center and maybe build a cup holder thingy. I want the full double din screen.

Yeah, you'd have to build a center console for that.

You're doing it wrong!! Na, just kidding. Yeah, I had to cut all the plastic that you did to do the double DIN in mine. I think I ended up cutting more down low though to fit the wiring. This would be nice for my Jeep, but no hands free calling support kills it for me. I'm with you on the USB hard wiring for music (have trouble daily with the Sonoma radio with bluetooth music wise, calling is fine) but I also like the hands free stuff. When my Ipod worked I would listen to it and also receive calls with the bluetooth. Otherwise good job, definitely a lot cleaner install video vs my double din install. I tend to go off on a tangent too often.

Yeah, when I’m driving the very last thing I want to do is talk to someone on the phone, so this deck is perfect for me. I’m amazed at how much better quality and out put this deck has over the base Pioneer deck I was running.

Oh, and the tangent thing.....my first swing at the video was 46 min long and left zero room for the action cam shots. I went through it again when KZbin was choking on the upload and cut it down to the 26 min is now. Cut it down to the very basic talk.

Someone important calls, ha ha ha ha....I almost always have my ringer off. I tell people if they want my attention text is the best way.

This is the exact video I needed to watch! Could you not just cut all the connector wires on the back that you wont ever need though? Like the XM radio connector for example.

I've thought about cutting the excess wires and capping them, but just haven't done it. So long as they are capped correctly, they should be fine.

Thank you! Sounds better than any Alpine or Pioneer I’ve ever had...and it has lasted longer, too.

I have one of these and want to install it in my Jeep Wrangler I was wondering where you got all the adapters from the original harness
@rockymtnredneck48885 жыл бұрын
I believe this time around I simply got them at Wal-Mart. You can find the adapters just about anywhere: Crutchfield.com, Amazon.com, etc. Your local stereo installation shop, etc. Metra is always a good brand to look for, though I've used Stinger, Schosche, Knuconcepts, and Install Gear products, too.

Nope, nothing special. Just normal adapters. As I noted in the video, the only thing different is there is no constant power line like car stereos use to hold memory and a clock.

What kind of saw were you speaking of?
@rockymtnredneck48885 жыл бұрын
Search: "DEWALT DCS355B 20V XR Oscillating Multi-Tool" It's also known as a plunge saw. It's one of the best tool purchases I've made. I thought I showed it in the video...maybe I didn't clarify well enough?

Went back and looked and I think the plunge saw didn't make into the video. It was in the first edit, but I ended up cutting a lot of content to keep the time of the video down.
