A piece of history that will never be repeated. Am a proud onwer of a TTS and the aim is to drive and enjoy it until I return to dust. This is a true iconic design and lucky are those in possession of it.

Getting a brand new 2022 TTS this weekend. So I hope they continue making it. I enjoyed your video. I concur ... it's a fun car, very fast, very grippy, quite thrusty. On my two test drives I felt it wanted to be set free to run away in abandon but was being held back just a tad. I'm no experienced performance driver, just a normal stick shift everyday driver, so my views will change once I own and drive this car daily.

Totally agree with what you're saying, I've owned two MK2 TT's in manual and done 180,000 miles between them and loved every second of every mile. Then I bought a Mk3 TT Quattro S Tronic and it was as dull as dishwater. Very refined very sophisticated and very fast but dull. For me the biggest issue was the auto box which completely removed the driving experience. The sports car had disappeared and it felt like I was just driving a fast car but certainly not an engaging sports car. After six months of dullness I sold it and bought a 2016 manual Cayman 981 2.7 flat six. 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds and just what a great drivers car it is. Also I still own the Mk 2 TT which I hadn't sold, with its 102,000 miles on the clock and 0 to 60 in 6.7 seconds is still a fantastic car to drive.

I actually drove a Cayman GTS one or two months back and I would choose that over the TTS. The Cayman felt more involving, a bit more nimble in the corners, and just more exciting to drive. I'd argue the TTS looks better, though. Thanks for watching 👍

You commented that you much prefer manuals and I'd wager that if you had driven a manual TTS your views on it from a driver involvement perspective would have been completely different.

Rusty I’m looking at a Porsche Cayman or a mk3 Audi TTS but I’m not sure I’m 25 like manual a lot makes you feel alive! However I’m steering towards a paddle gear box any suggestions?? Would be much appreciated

Rhys, I'm 60 and still living my life like I'm your age. You have picked two absolutely great cars to choose between but in my personal opinion whatever you do; pick a manual. If you pick the TTS you will reward yourself with an incredible car, ballistic speed with 0 to 60 in just 4.7 seconds, Quattro drive giving incredible roadholding, go manual with a sweet notchey gearbox and a lovely clutch making every gearchange a moment of pure driving pleasure, low maintenance costs and totally reliable build quality plus a really good sized boot with fold down seats and finally two seats in the back for small children if your girlfriend gets pregnant. Or..... pick a Cayman and drive a proper sports car, 0 to 60 will be slightly slower than the TTS but it won't matter. The ownership and driving experience is just on an elevated level. It's a thing of beauty and driving joy with a genuine flat six howl that sings to you every time it is pushed. The TT is a great looking car but this has the wow factor, its special, you won't be able to stop looking at it and you will genuinely love it. My advice is go and test drive them all, auto and manual and feel the differences from a pure driving pleasure perspective but don't be taken in by the bullsh*t that an automatic is super fast and super slick and that this is better, it isn't, it is just for lazy old farts who want to go fast with the car doing everything for them. Good luck with the insurance, mine is only £350 fully comp which is one of the benefits of being 60 but whatever, just go for it, life's not a rehearsal this is it.

That’s a lovely bit of info thanks rusty, I mean insurance isn’t too much of a problem as it’s around £1500 for either so tbh not too sad! But I do like the 987 cayman aswell not so sure why! I just love the sound I’m steering towards the Porsche just because of the sound of that beautiful engine I’ll let you know when I do probably in the next couple years not so sure yet as looking for a house to buy but when that’s done I’m buying either of these Magnificat cars! Cheers for your advice!!

I am an old guy...have had all of the 2 previous generations of the TT. My TTS at 296 hp is a great daily driver, I understand what the reviewer said, but I still like it. Does every thing I want it to..great on the twisties...leaves the bad drivers behind too...but yeah, I am biased and I like it.!

I have a 1990 ZR-1 as my forever sports car and it offers that raw, visceral experience that you can't get from *any* modern car, period. The TTS/RS sounds like it would make a fantastic everyday companion to it with the Quattro AWD, comfort, and every day reliability that comes with modern cars. Nice review!

@MarkJT1000

Unfortunately like most other reviewers you get it wrong. The TT isn't a sports car, its a "sporty" coupe. It is designed and intended to appeal to those who want a car that looks exciting and can go fast and handle bends but will still keep you safe and is perfectly usable as a daily driver. Not everybody wants to be wrestling with their car on its limits with their rear end slide out in the wet, on their way to work. There are other cars out there that do provide that thrill of driving on the edge but they're not as comfortable or practical for daily use and can be wearing on long drives. You complain about ride on the 20" wheels on the TT but that's just the type of ride you are going to get on a proper sports car. You can't have it both ways.
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 5 жыл бұрын
Could reason be why most other reviewers define it as a sports car is because it is a sports car? "Looks exciting, and can go fast and handle bends" - that to me sounds like a sports car? That's meant to sound as arsey as it may read by the way, I'm not trying to get in to a war of words, I just want to have a sensible discussion. I can see your point about the 20" alloys, though, maybe I didn't word it quite right in the video. I was just saying that the 19" alloys would be better for ride comfort, as the 20s make the ride a bit lumpy. I can see what you mean about not being able to have both, but a sports car doesn't need to have a firm, uncomfortable ride just because it's a sports car. Yes, it's often a trade off, but it's always the case. Thanks for watching Mark, and thanks for commenting :)
@MarkJT1000
@MarkJT1000 5 жыл бұрын
@@CarObsession Nothing wrong with a bit of sensible discussion. 😄 So what is a sports car? Depends who you ask. To the man in the street the TT is a sports car. To the hot enthusiasts ..... its definitely not. The definition of a sports car seems to cover various shades of grey. Reviewers have constantly criticised the TT, throughout its life, for being sterile and uninspiring to drive with numb steering and under steer. Do you not think that Audi could have corrected that in all these years. Of course they could if they wanted to but that is not how the TT is designed to be. Their sister company Porsche fulfils that niche in the market. The TT has the drive characteristics that it has because that's what Audi wanted to achieve with it. Its not a failing or a fault, its meant to be like that. PS - I don't know why I'm having a go at you because all reviewer say the same things. LOL
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 5 жыл бұрын
@@MarkJT1000 You're not having a go at all, you're just expressing your opinion 👍🏽 You argue a good case, but I'd still class it as a sports car, but one that's premium and more refined than, let's say, a GT86 or something.
@BourbonJRA
@BourbonJRA 5 жыл бұрын
MarkJT1000 it goes 0-60 in 4.5 and has over 300 brake. I’d say a TTS is a sports car. The S literally stands for “sport”.
@mannyalons8427
@mannyalons8427 4 жыл бұрын
@@MarkJT1000 I agree with you, it's purpose is often misunderstood. Its a sports car but its a different kind of sports car targeted to specific people who like the way all wheel cars handle, not everyone wants a sports car with a loose tail, rear-wheel bias or the danger of making a slight mistake in a BMW or Mustang while driving. It happens even to the best. 😂

Lol, ok then 😅. If you think that, maybe you should watch the video where I compared an S4 Avant to a 335d, I chose the S4 my friend. If I had to choose Audi or BMW in general, I'd choose Audi, I think they look better and have better interiors. However... If we're talking TTS or M2 -well I suppose it'd have to be M240i - I'd take the M240i. It's more engaging to drive, more playful and just feels more 'alive'. If we're talking TT RS or M2, that's a more difficult choice, as the 5 cylinder in the RS is simply a gem, but again, the M2 is more engaging to drive, plus you can have it a manual if you prefer. Thanks for watching 👍🏽.
