I don’t know about you, but if there are big boat rollers where I’m fishing, I’m getting the hell out of there. Also, even with my terrova, I ain’t taking my tracker 175 on the water if it’s blowing more than 15-20. Thing might as well be a sailboat, and when you go anchoring with spot lock all day, you better have a few extra batteries laying around. I have the exact same trolling motor on practically the same boat you’ve got, and I have found the unit to be about the best possible upgrade I could have done to the boat. The boat itself has limitations that you have to live with - especially regarding its performance in moderate wind and chop. I haven’t noticed a problem with the trolling motor shaft length, probably because I don’t fish in those conditions.

Found a deal on a 60” shaft Terrova and was worried about it being too long, thanks for the video.

How has it been working out for you? Do you have trouble with it fitting under your cover? I just ordered the 60 for my 175 TE because thats all that was available. I figured I could cut it if need be.

Did you need to get your boat cover modified? I just ordered the same motor. Thanks for the information.

Scott, I've been doing same research and getting pissed in the process. It makes no sense at all. I finally emailed MK today, asking why they didn't offer the 80# in a 54" shaft, and they told me it's all about demand. Apparently, there isn't enough demand for the 54" on the 80#. They did say, however, that I can cut the 60"shaft to whatever length I need. If I have an authorized MK service perform the work, it will not effect my warranty. I'm waiting to hear back to see if MK will cover the cost of having that done? I meant to ask them if I could order a replacement shaft in a 54" length. I did that for Motorguide Xi5.

I ran in to the same problem man. 54" would be perfect. Ended up going with the 60"

Is there anything inside the shaft, any details on cutting process?

@@billcarlson4495 There are two power cables inside (10 gauge black and red). Thick shaft can be cut with hacksaw very carefully in a circular manner. Helps to slide a thin small pipe inside the shaft to protect if available. You have to be real brave, cutting the cables in the disassembled the head, then the shaft, but it really is quite simple. There's a good video showing it on a Terrova for a kayak install.
