People who complain or trash the BMW are the ones who 1. Can't afford one and never had one. 2. Justify their Prius purchase 3. Don't understand the concept behind a "PLUG IN HYBRID" People who buy this vehicle, like me, would have bought a BMW anyways and spent the money. We gravitate towards the plug in for either environmental conscientious reasons or truly fuel consumption reasons. It should not matter to those who don't why we do.

A Prius is going to be more reliable. It just is. You can keep it for over a decade without worrying something major will go wrong. Not the case with a bmw. Granted, bmw folks, especially the ones that buy new, aren't looking for that kind of reliability. It will be gone before the warranty is up. And that's fine. But don't act like people are just buying a Prius because they're can't afford a bmw, and they're secretly jealous.

This is an awesome way to dip into the "electric" market. WSJ has a great video piece on why all electric cars make no sense unless you use it for commuting purposes only ("Range Anxiety" is a new neurosis). I have a 535xi that I love but the advantages of hybrids are pretty obvious because of the instantaneous acceleration, improved mileage and reduced pollution. Our next vehicle will likely be hybrid.

@@warriorh2127 When I grew up, BMW was far from a "status luxury" car, it was fun to drive but weird looking car. An ugly duckling. They had the performance and they evolved, they eventually got the design right. You can still see the heritage of the 1988 5-series in the cars of today. But BMW is no longer a leader in performance. The BMWe is no slouch but is slower than the slowest Tesla available. The Model 3 performance is faster and cheaper than the BMW M3. The mid 30s guys who used to drive a BMW now drive a Tesla. The older generation might prefer the classic car interior of a BMW, but if you spend some time in a Model 3, the legacy cars will start so look...old. Tesla not only has the performance, they are well designed and very safe cars. There are still things they can improve, but Tesla is only 10 years old and is already selling 1 million cars. BMW is 103 years old and sells close to 2 million cars per year. But BMW has to get their sh/t together fast, otherwise, Tesla will be bigger than them within 4-5 years. And many Tesla owners will be former BMW customers.

25 KM is too little. The ideal battery size of PHEV is 100 KM... with that you can be always electric except for the really long drives (e.g not for your daily commute but only when you go on vacation or go for a road trip). With 25 KM, you cannot even do an average person's commute to office without spending some fuel. Perhaps you manage to halve your fuel consumption, but that's it. With the chevrolet volt you're at 56 KM eletctric range. 56 is, IMHO, the acceptable minimum for a PHEV.

The issue I have with PHEV is twice the weight, twice the maintenance, and twice as much to go wrong. You either have an electric drive train pulling a gas engine and gas tank and transmission, or a gas engine towing a heavy battery pack and motor. I'm biased though, I love my BMW i3 🤓

BMW i3s are extremely stressful vehicles. Barely little to no storage space and it only has a total of 60-120 miles of range, letting you feel extremely vulnerable that the range will turn off anytime. It’s not even an attractive car from the outside. The inside is pretty damn nice but that car is definitely not any better than the hybrid 530e. I’d rather drive hybrid over the i3 anyday

How much does your home electric bill go up ?
@seanstewart2855 жыл бұрын
It costs me about a $1.87 USD to charge the car from 0-100%± at about $0.25/kWh at a public charger If you charge at home, you're looking at even more affordable rates, especially if you can get lower rates at night. I did the math a while back, and at this rate electricity and fuel become about equal in price over distance travelled for my rates above. The kicker though is that electric motors are far more efficient at converting potential energy into a propulsive force around town, which is where much of my driving is.

It gets me exactly to work and back every day. Got this one as a loaner for 2 weeks while my M4 was in the shop. And i gave it a try. Got a free charger(chargers are mostly free in Germany) next to my work, and i just park it there, plug it in and drive back after work, around (17 Kilometers) each way. And it has been charming to not refuel at all. I havent even been to the gas station, nor have i driven it on gasoline. And i gotta say, i really like the car, and it seems to be ver useful for commuting to work, all electric. Just wish they would release a version with a bigger engine under the hood and some actual power regarding the Gasoline Engine. The electric part can stay the way it is, its perfect tbh!
