I spent my youth i bands like this. We never even got close to this perfection and feeling. This video is maybe the best I have ever seen in big band jazz, adults included! I was touched to tears, as old as I am.

Forget the glitzy glamour of 'The X Factor' and '.....'s Got Talent' where the performer - has but one objectve - fame and fortune - and little real talent ... the vacuous superficiality ... the Justin Biebers' of this world. Very few have even reached a meaningful level on a musical instrument. Now consider the wonderful work of Maestro Chamorro and Europe's premier youth jazz band. Joan is able to spot a potential talent bubbling beneath the surface - these young people aspire to become 'the best' but there is no 'ego', no posturing, just an absolute love of their music and an unsurpassed level of dedication and a determination to succeed under Joan's magical teaching and guidance. Many of these youngsters will still be in full-time education ; I always wonder where they find the time for their chosen lifestyle. Where does it all begin for these talented youngsters ? Imagine the joy and parental hugs following the successful audition of a young child ... "Mama, the man from Sant Andreu - he say "Si, Si" ! (Apologies to 'The Man from Del Monte' ! - and please forgive my facetiousness, Joan !) ... Wow ! It must be quite an honour to become a part of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band. At that point parent and child must know there is no going back and no wish to do so. The prospect of these kids joining such a prestigious group, playing their favourite kind of music to sell-out audiences must be all-consuming ... Rock-on Chamorro !

I love watching these SAJB rehearsals. Informal, without the "uniform" of the band, sitting in their own way (Alba and Marçal "Dembele" very close, of course), relaxed but at the same time very focused on what they are doing, you can see them happy and enjoying. And the little trumpet player, Max Munné, "conducting" the orchestra as if he were Master Chamorro ... you can only smile with tenderness and admiration. The Chamorro method in all its splendor.

Mr Ch! You ar one of the most important music person in the world. Jazz music and young people is sort of a guarantee for democracy. Music is developing their brains and they are in to a belonging that is meaningful and keep them of the streets. I am a also a music-teacher, in Sweden, and I teach disabled young people to play. They are, of course, not even close to the level that your students are in to, but I see the same happiness in they're eyes when they are playing together. Beautiful. Time. Warmth. Intonation. Balance. Sensitivity among section mates. Energy. Respect. Love. Listening. Having played this tune for over 40 years now, I can tell you that few professional ensembles achieve these ideals nearly as closely as this group. Bravo to all players, even those sitting out were feeling time and listening with respect and admiration. As a trumpet player - major props to that section - lead, soloist, and section work. But one (tiny) suggestion - (and I had to really stretch to find something to mention!) List to and match your note endings/lengths throughout, especially as one section hands off to another. Basie’s band slayed other bands with (among other things), their note endings... I am very happy for each and all of you who contributed to this marvelous performance. Major RESPECT!
